To make the annoying and persistent pop-up for Windows 10 go away?
I'm not so sure I want to "upgrade" from Windows 7 on this machine. I tried it on a (really cheap) Windows 8 machine and found that it slowed things down drastically...not so sure I want to do that to my main machine.

23 years ago, the incident in which many many people learned of the perfidy and callousness of the ATF, US Marshals service and the FBI (especially the Hostage Rescue Team)...and how they would lie, cheat, bribe and blackmail people to do their bidding....and lie, cheat and cover up and shift blame when they were found out.

This is the incident that showcased the incompetence of the US Marshals service...How they played "Operator" and bumbled in nearly every aspect of their investigation....all while costing the US Taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars BEFORE the incident at Ruby Ridge..
This is the incident where we learned about FBI sniper Lon Horiuchi,...and his (ahem) Marksmanship....Wherein his name became an epithet after he killed Vicki Weaver under hastily modified Rules of Engagement for the HRT team....essentially an order to kill any of the Weaver party on sight.
It was this incident which highlighted the failures of management of the FBI, the ATF, the US Marshals service, and relative un-accountability of the agents employed in those agencies...and the behavior that one would expect of some men with a great deal of authority and essentially zero oversight or accountability.....and the desire to protect their fellow agents and never question their allegations....No one in any of those agencies was punished for their role in this asinine incident......one that began on lies, escalated because of a cover up and incompetence, and resulted in deaths of members of the Weaver party and a US Marshall....... FBI sniper Lon Horiuchi was protected by his agency (see manslaughter charge section) and essentially allowed to go free after committing murder.....
If you take the time to learn the facts (and the Wikipedia article has it fairly straight), you can understand why our founding fathers warned us against governments.....and why they put the First Amendment first (so we could show, talk about, and explain what the government is doing) and gave us the Second Amendment (so we could fight back and protect the First).

It is bad enough when the job interferes with my drinking. (I mean, it is an issue, but it does help keep me out of trouble)...
But now, things are so chaotic and messed up that it is interfering with my SHOOTING....

Luckily, no one was seriously injured
So I have this backhoe....
Actually, I have a Chinese made attachment backhoe that fits on the three point hitch of my Kubota tractor....
It is a pretty good backhoe. Digs well, and has enough digging force to move the tractor even with the stabilizers down sometimes. Nice unit for small jobs.
38 HP tractor. PTO driven Hydraulic pump.
Gearbox on the hydraulic pump seizes. Hilarity ensues. Parts flying like a small detonation had happened. Chains and brackets and bolt heads and other pieces flew with abandon and gusto.
No one was hurt. Chains did break, and pieces of metal were thrown about but they hit exactly no one who was watching me dig the trench. Those guards and shields that always get in the way actually have a purpose....
But they all moved back fairly rapidly.
Now I gotta contact the company and get them to send me a replacement.
No electric install for the range in the meantime. None of the other projects that I have waiting will happen either.
ETA: Now I gotta figure out how to disconnect the damned thing from the tractor......No hydraulics is gonna make things interesting......

SO Hillary is finally coughing up the email server
After how many months? Apparently they have had time to vacuum all the incriminating emails from said server.
This is a joke. Why even bother? You know, and I know, even if we can't prove it, that the delay was to giver her IT people time to clean everything that was incriminating from that server.
If I shoot someone, do I get months to buy a replacement barrel, change the firing pin and sand the bolt face so that there aren't any marks to match with the case and bullet found at the scene of the crime?
If I am in an accident, do I get time to go to a body shop and have the damaged body panels replaced and the car painted?
Seriously.

$88 MILLION. ($88,000,000)....all taxes paid. And she has blown more than 10% bailing her boyfriend out on drug and weapons charges. Bailing him out....He's still likely gonna go to jail. Hope his (ahem) companionship for the next few months is worth it. Bet she is surprised when they take him away after court.....or when he bails on her leaving her to pay the rest.
Here she gets a chance at wealth that few of us can do more than dream about......and blows a significant portion on a lowlife boyfriend.
Just goes to show, culture and all that.....

So today, I am taking the weekend's cash to the bank, and other errands, and the traffic on the road to the bank is stopped......I waited, and then shut off the truck and walked forward 10 or so cars to see why...
Seems a tree limb had fallen across the road. Not from a storm or anything, but had simply broken and fallen. The road was blocked and a police officer was there. (Branch was about 15" in diameter, and held on by a piece of wood about 6" wide and about an inch thick.).
The officer told me that it would be about 20-30 minutes until they could get someone there with a chainsaw to remove the branch (It isn't that big of a town, dunno why it should take that long...and this is the main street of the town).
I walked back to the truck, opened the tailgate and pulled out the old double bit axe I carry on one side of the bed (the other side has a short handled shovel) and walked back to the downed limb. As I went, I asked several other drivers (male) to come and help me with the branch.
4 strikes and the branch was free. 6 guys, including me, picked up the branch and more or less dragged it onto the grass. Road open. No need for a chainsaw. No waiting either.
The cop, (who watched the whole thing without saying anything) then asked me if I always carried an axe in my truck.
"Doesn't everybody?" I replied
The look on his face was priceless.
I got back into the truck and drove to the bank.

Gaahh
Spent the days off (weekend) making gasoline powered equipment run (most of it hadn't run in 7-10 years) in order that it can fetch a decent price at an auction of some old folks property....They are both in nursing homes, so the stuff they will never use again is to be sold at auction to help their finances...
I may NEVER use gasoline powered equipment without adding either Stabil or Pri-G in every tank...At least then my stuff will start when it is time for someone to sell my shit.... God, I hate the smell of old stale gas. But I got all but one piece running. Should be worth about $10K more now....
Spent today playing catch up at work I may well fire someone that work(s)(ed?) for me for being an idiot.
And I was reminded that I had promised to bury some drainage tile at the range tomorrow....which I had planned as a half day off in order that I could sight-in and function test the Non-Ruger 10-22. I'd blow it off but there are 10 other people coming....Shit.,,,,Maybe sometime *next* Sunday I can actually go to the range and shoot......
And I got a huge oak down due to wind in the back yard..... Anyone in NW Indiana need about 6-8 ton of firewood? You cut it, you haul it, I make you good deal. Really really really good deal. Might even help you load it. I already have enough firewood from last year that I won't use the new stuff before it rots.....

Forgotten by their command, they floated for 4 days in the Pacific after being torpedoed on their way from Guam to the Phillipines...No one was looking for 'em....A LOT of people failed the men of the Indianapolis that day and the next...
No one was even looking for them. Found by accident .
4 days.
880 went into the water..
217 came out.
Kinda like this story:

MH 370 washes up on shore.
Seriously, at least a piece of it.

Seems that a piece of what appears to be a 777 (and there is only one missing) wing or flap washed up on the shore of Reunion Island....But how long ago it washed up no one knows.
It is, at least, something to go on.
Maybe, at long last, someone will know, for sure, what happened. Maybe the rest of the wreck can be found.

It's alive! Alive I tell you! ALIVE!!!
Well, not really...... But it IS finished.
The Non Ruger 10-22, that is.
Tactical Innovations receiver (red) (w/Black Bolt).
Whistle Pig blue fluted 18.5" lightweight Barrel. (You need one of these for your 10-22 as well....)
Kidd 2 stage trigger (12 oz/12/oz.) (You need one of these for your 10-22)......Very pricey. Very. But OMG! so very sweet.
Red/White/Blue because ...'Merica! And I felt like it. Colors ain't gonna make it shoot any better, I know, but since I was building it.......and it didn't cost more or anything...
The assembly will live, for now at least, in a surplus to needs Hogue stock that I had laying around (until I find a decent adjustable stock). I trimmed the stock to free float the barrel. You can pass a bill all the way to the Vee block.
And it will wear, for now at least, a 4-12 x 50 Tasco that I also had laying around. There will be an upgrade in the future, but I'm gonna have to save my pennies for a while to find the right glass for this rifle. (and there isn't anything wrong with the Tasco....it is a decent scope that has served me well in the past.....it is likely older than some of my readers)
This assembly was not entirely drop in. There were issues with tolerance stacking, but I have to say that Tactical Innovations went out of their way to help. So did Whistle Pig. (Kidd was just sure that their trigger wasn't at fault and blamed everyone else.....) I had light strikes on the rims resulting in unreliable ignition, which turned out to be a bit of tolerance stacking. But once that was solved (with help from Tactical Innovations who went out of their way to make things work for me) everything else went smoothly.
The receiver is a well machined piece of metal.
The barrel is a work of art.Very light too. I chose not to get one with a threaded end for a silencer, because that combination of color and flutes and threaded end wasn't stock....but Whistle Pig did say they would make one for me for a reasonable price....
The trigger is great. Not cheap, Expensive, in fact... but worth the cost...
Total weight is 5.6 lbs...but 2 lbs of that is the Hogue stock.
This weekend is busy, but I should get it to the range soon .

Other parts I used:
Kidd Vee block (and screws), Nicely machined piece. Much higher quality than others I have seen.
Kidd polished trigger pins. (these fit perfectly. If you warm them up in your hand, they won't go in.)
Kidd bolt handle/return spring. (IMO the best on the market).
American National Firearms bolt buffer. These never seem to wear out. I have one in a rifle that has over 23,000 rounds through it and there is zero appreciable wear on either the pin OR the bolt.
Now if I could only find decent aftermarket mags, then I can have an entirely Non Ruger 10-22.

The barrel is a work of art.Very light too. I chose not to get one with a threaded end for a silencer, because that combination of color and flutes and threaded end wasn't stock....but Whistle Pig did say they would make one for me for a reasonable price....
The trigger is great. Not cheap, Expensive, in fact... but worth the cost...
Total weight is 5.6 lbs...but 2 lbs of that is the Hogue stock.
This weekend is busy, but I should get it to the range soon .

Other parts I used:
Kidd Vee block (and screws), Nicely machined piece. Much higher quality than others I have seen.
Kidd polished trigger pins. (these fit perfectly. If you warm them up in your hand, they won't go in.)
Kidd bolt handle/return spring. (IMO the best on the market).
American National Firearms bolt buffer. These never seem to wear out. I have one in a rifle that has over 23,000 rounds through it and there is zero appreciable wear on either the pin OR the bolt.
Now if I could only find decent aftermarket mags, then I can have an entirely Non Ruger 10-22.
I think I will call it Captain America

never can have too many
Straps, that is. When hauling crates or equipment on a flatbed trailer, you can NEVER have too many straps in your truck....and (up to a point) there is no way to have too many tieing your load down tightly.
Hauled a three point backhoe from Chicago to my home. 3 ratchet straps over the top holding the crate down tightly to the trailer.
One each fore and aft to keep it from sliding back and forth front to back or side to side.
so that was 4 straps.
After about a mile down the road, two to keep the cover from billowing.
When I was strapping the thing down, the guys at the warehouse/freight yard said I was overdoing it.
Then I went from 70 to 10 in about a hundred feet when there was a wreck in front of the guy in front of me.
Glad I had those extra straps. 2000 lbs (not that much unless it breaks loose) would have made my day when it hit me in the back.

True sportsmen foil the efforts of bureaucrats.
So it seems that the South African shooting team and the New Zealand shooting team (coming to shoot at Camp Perry) both had their match competition ammo hijacked stolen confiscated at the point of entry (they should have hand carried it through Mexico and across the border, then no one in our government would have cared or noticed).
So what happens? Shooters here in the US step up and collect components, presses and build loading benches so that these sportsmen can load their flavor of ammo and compete on an even field with the others. Kudos to them, and to the companies that donated.

I'm no EMT
And I freely admit that my knowledge of advance trauma care is .....limited. Maybe nonexistent, really. And having posted this, I am likely going to get to find out what kind of gravy goes best with shoe leather.....
But I can't help but wonder about the actions and decisions of the EMT's as seen from the outside at a distance....Yeah, I am armchair quarterbacking here, and all that....
But:
Here's the thing: I live near an area that the EMT folks use to land the LifeFlight helicopters and to transfer patients.
So, today, about a mile from this area, there is a Motorcycle vs Truck accident, with predictable results.
Now, the ambulance picked up the motorcycle rider, and brought him to the transfer area. Where they sat for approximately 15 minutes waiting on the chopper.
The copter landed, and still, the victim was in the ambulance for another 40 minutes I assume they were trying to stabilize him or stop bleeding long enough to get him to better care.
However:
When you add in at least 15 minutes flying time to a trauma center in either Chicago or South Bend (likely Chicago is better, and closer by a minute or two and that was the direction the chopper flew off towards).....you are at, with the time spent in the ambulance on the ground while the chopper is waiting, at or beyond what it would take to drive to said hospital (Ferinstance, *I* can get to the trauma center in Chicago (Northwestern Memorial), in "normal" traffic, in 45 minutes, maybe 55 if traffic is heavy....and I don't have red lights and a siren.
Now, I don't know if the EMT's can do more sitting still than they can in a moving ambulance, but time from pickup to hospital had to be, including while the chopper waited on the ground, at least at least an hour and 10 minutes....which is actually MORE than what it would have taken to 'Scoop and Run" to the Trauma Center by road. Remember, road time is 45-55 minutes in my personal vehicle, no lights, no siren, etc. There is a "Normal" hospital with an emergency room less than 15 minutes away by car ...likely about 10 minutes by ambulance....maybe a minute or two less. One would think that they would have brought him to a nearby emergency room, stabilized him there, then, if need be, transported him via chopper from hospital to hospital. In the time the ambulance was waiting for the chopper to arrive, (not the time the chopper waited on the patient to be moved from the ambulance) he could have been in an emergency room....perhaps not a Trauma Center, but a much better equipped facility than the back of an ambulance.
Again, I don't know if sitting still allows the EMT folks to do more than what they could do moving...if so, then the ground hold maybe makes sense. If not, them there was no real reason for the Chopper that I can see. .
I just don't understand the concept of hurry up and then wait.....then Wait and Hurry up! If you need the chopper, then I would assume time is of the essence....And if it isn't, then why call the chopper to begin with?
Again, I may be doing the EMT's, professional that they are, a disservice by questioning their actions. If so, I will apologize in advance. Perhaps there were unforeseen circumstances that changed things as the situation unfolded.
But it really doesn't make sense from the outside.

All the parts are here!
for the Non-Ruger 10-22. (although I may have to use factory Ruger mags unless I wanna go with extended capacity ones) (ETA: Oops, I forgot to order a bolt buffer....Amazon, Baby!)
Now there is the fitting of the barrel to the receiver, the receiver to the stock, and other small fitments.

Everyone is pointing out that the recruiting office in Chattanooga was a "No Guns" zone. and everyone is at lest insinuating that had those folks been allowed to arm themselves that things would be different.
Maybe.
Probably not, however. Likely nothing would have changed. The asshole (I won't bother naming him, everyone else has used his name way too much) reportedly used a "High Powered Rifle" to shoot at the recruiting center and kill the marines from OUTSIDE the facility.

When you are working, or shopping are you that vigilant that you are watching the people 100 feet away OUTSIDE THE BUILDING?
I'm likely one of the most....some might say...paranoid...people that I know. If I could remount my eyeballs to scan better, I'd have it done. Always in "Condition Yellow" .Yet I'd have likely missed a threat outside the building a hundred feet away while I was working as well.
You can't be 100% vigilant all of the time and still be out in the world doing things and getting wotk done. At some point you have to look at what is in front of you. Do a job, read a printout or a computer screen.
You are probably at home reading this. And if you are reading this, then you aren't scanning for threats...... what about the guy driving by pointing a gun at your house?
Oh, you didn't see him? All you heard was when he popped of three or 12 shots at the walls in which you reside? Yeah, well, too late.
And you CAN be armed. Not that it matters, really. The Marines weren't looking for a threat. Had no reason to believe that there was one....Even if they had been armed. what would have changed?

Parts arriving....WTF is an "Other" anyway?
So the Non-Ruger 10-22 is coming together....at least the parts are becoming co-located...
Picked up the receiver from my FFL today. 4473 and all. The ATF(e) calls it an "other" .... why?
The Kidd trigger is very sweet. 12 oz and 12 oz 2 stage...Very, very nice. .... the pins holding it in place in the receiver are at exactly the right size. If you hold 'em in your hand too long, they won't go into the holes in the receiver. Very close tolerances in all of these parts....
So I have receiver, bolt, cocking handle/recoil spring, trigger. Barrel is on the way. I have a Hogue stock that the assembly will live in until I find a better stock. For starters, it'll get an old Redfield 4-16 X 40 scope that I have laying around to wear until I find something better.
I fully expect that the gun will shoot much better than I can. We shall see. I should be close to MOA shooting, even if it is .22LR.

So the pieces for the Non-Ruger 10-22 are beginning to trickle in.

When you order from Kidd, the parts are shipped, apparently, just before you finalize the transaction. I realized that I had forgotten to buy a bolt handle. I went back FIVE minutes after completing the first transaction, and the order had already shipped. Had to pay shipping twice. I mean, I got the notification of shipment from USPS....tracked that it was picked up as I was trying to modify the order.
Similar experience with Tactical Innovations: less than an hour from getting the paperwork for the FFL to them, and the receiver shipped. I get to pick it up tomorrow.
My Whistle Pig barrel should be here Wed. Shipping on that one took 2 days to happen. I shall have to complain.....

These are cities where, for some reason, the flouting of immigration laws is accepted.....by the people, by the lawmakers, by the police, by the state governments in which they exist, and by the Federal Government...
Why?
Why is the flouting of any law acceptable? It isn't that the law is illegal....It isn't that the laws are not enforced elsewhere in that state or in the country.....just in certain cities where the Mayor or whatever they call the leader of that municipality has "Decreed" that these Federal and State laws will not be enforced........
In other words, the Mayor of San Francisco has declared that we can ignore certain laws...
And the higher governments accept it, and acquiesce....They, by failing to enforce the laws, agree that it is acceptable to break them.
What if a municipality (or a state) were to decide that other Federal laws were acceptable to ignore?
Say gun laws, or marriage laws. O laws regarding finance?
Or, say, tax laws?
What would happen then? If it came about that the city of, say, Ottumwa, Iowa decided that all laws regarding the manufacture (or transfer) of firearms were null and void, would the Federal government look the other way? How about the State?
How about if Reno, Nevada decided that there need be no licences to handle nuclear materials? How about if Ogden,Utah decided that there need be no currency or banking laws, and allowed anyone to deposit any amount of money in a bank, with no records as to where it came from? While I do feel that there are too many laws, and many are unconstitutional, these are laws. Either enforce them, or take 'em off the books.

So the Plainfield, Illinois police were called because some kids were playing with airsoft rifles.
They confronted the kids, This we know.
The officers claim the kids pointed the rifles at them, and they reacted (as they should have, if their version of the story is true) and nearly shot one of the kids.
The kids claim they were playing in the woods, and never pointed the rifles at the officers., who drew on them immediately....
Which story is true? We don't know. Kids tend to bend the truth....but so do officers these days....Hard to judge.
But these were kids, not adults. Plainfield is a fairly affluent suburb of Chicago. Not an inner city shithole. Kids. Fairly young men, not adults, or even adult sized kids.
One would expect officers of the law to have a bit more sense.
This coulda been ugly...very ugly.

I am glad everyone went home that day with no extra holes in their body.

THis is as bad as the judge releasing Bill Cosby's testimony because he was "moralizing"....it was punishment, plain and simple, because the judge didn't like Cosby's message.
THese judges need to be recalled....Judges shouldn't be activists, they should be JURISTS.....if they can't be jusrists first then they should be removed.....or shot for failing those they serve.

It ain't free
Was talking with a dude about what we did this weekend.
Mentioned that I had split a rick (8' X 4') and half of wood. Got my exercise.
"Oh, you heat with wood? Cool!"...."Must be nice to have all that free heat...wish I could do that".
Well, first of all, you could "do that", if you own a home....and chose to.
Second, it isn't free. There is the sunk cost of the chainsaw, axes wedges, sledge, racks, etc. Plus the stove itself.
Then there is the sweat. Lots and lots of that. (not that I don't need the exercise... and, as far as I know, no one ever drowned in sweat). But sweat there is, in plenty.
Sweat when you cut it after the thunderstorm that brought it down....
Sweat when you haul it home.
Sweat when you stack it so it can cure.
Sweat when you split it.
Sweat when you stack it so it will dry after it is in stove sized pieces.
Sweat when you bring it inside to burn.
And it is nice when you burn it. And it keeps me in shape.
But it ain't "free". Not by a long chalk.

It occurs to me....
That our Founding Fathers, and the rest of the colonials that fought the British Army (of occupation, really) committed what was, essentially, treason, for far fewer transgressions of rights than we experience today from our own government(s).
Methinks that August has too few Holidays. Perhaps we should add another....the Second Day when we celebrate Independance...a day to commemorate when the American People rose up and said "enough!" and threw off the yoke that our current government has imposed upon us. Perhaps, on this first day of Independence, we should consider their example.
I am thinking 8/8 has a nice ring to it......

Look: I don't care if you have a relationship with your lawnmower (as long as the lawnmower can consent and is of legal age....), but really, we all knew that this was coming as soon as the Gay Marriage case was adjudicated. I personally think the State should only record the contract between consenting partie(s) for legal purposes (next of kin, consent/healthcare decisions, inheritance, etc) and leave "marriage" to other organizations to solemnize.
It does, however, appear to be an attack on "Marriage" in our culture.

Rifle stock Bleg
Does anyone know of a manufacturer of 10-22 rifle stocks with adjust able Length of Pull and adjustable height cheekpiece?
Bell and Carlson make one, but the workmanship was....terrible. Their tolerances could be measured with a yardstick, and accuracy and tightness is....lacking. Checkering was...cosmetic, and seams would require a file to cut down....Sad, that. I liked the idea of the stock, but the workmanship was terrible.
I'm building a custom 10-22 range gun with mostly aftermarket parts, and plan on having to fit things a bit here and there...but I'd prefer not to have to inlay/cut the stock to fit the action...which I'd have to do with the Bell and Carlson. (they are that bad, sadly)

She said "the girls want to go again".
I said she could buy the ammo for that trip.
She pointed out that she could afford to pay, and that I had spent a fair amount on ammo. And that I could teach others with the ammo I could buy to replace the stuff we had used for her girls...
I said that I didn't care.
She asked why I do it.
"Well", I said, "I began to teach classes without any charge primarily to pay back those who taught me, many of whom have passed on, and I teach to honor the time, effort and money they spent for me.....paying back, and continuing the legacy."
"Now, I do it for that reason, and because I love teaching and seeing that "smile" that every new shooter gets on their face, no matter what age"
"Besides, if I can help keep even one person from harming another accidentally, then it is all worth it"
And really, that is it. I also don't think that anyone who has actually been taught in a class how to handle a firearm and to shoot them ever becomes an Anti-Gun" type....

2 more for the Dark side....
So Saturday was the shoot for the 2 young ladies.
Mom brought them to the range about 10 AM. Signed them in and had them sign waivers and all the other stuff the range requires.
Showed them around.
Then we had a short familiarization for the 2 girls.
Safety briefing.

Time to shoot. Indoor range (Mosquitos were....voracious.) Strung the 7 yd cable and hung some targets.
go over the 4 rules again.
.22 pistols (the girls liked those, especially the ones with red dots)
.380's (not so much)
big 9MM. Yeah!
small 9mm (not so much).
.38Special. (Meh)
.45 (1911). YES!
Their hands were a bit small for the pistols (being young girls) but they hit every time, at least on a NRA 50 ft Small Bore Pistol target. (about 12X12). With the .22 and the .45 they ate the black out of the targets....
The outdoor 50 yd/25 yd range was occupied, so we did .22 rifles inside at 50 ft.
Both girls like the scoped 10-22....(who wouldn't?) and the one said "This is just like Call of Duty!"
Hits were hard to call after the first one, even with Shoot and See targets. All one hole (I know, 50 feet, but still, first time shooters).
I had fun, they had fun, they learned something, learned that guns are not toys, and above all, I got to see two beautiful "first time shooters" smiles. Was too busy to take pictures.
They want to come and do some more shooting soon.

Interesting(er)

So I am doing inventory of my ammo, as acquaintance had asked if I might take her and her two teenaged girls to the range...I said yes, (they have both expressed an interest in pistols), and she asked me for advice...
Sure!, I said, how about Saturday?
It was on.
So Thursday, I am going through the ammo shelf, preparing I have .22LR, check. ,380 ACP (reloads)(holy shit, I have a BUNCH of those...), check. .38 special? Check. .45ACP? Getting low, but ok for now.....9mm....9mm...Shit. All I have is Self Defense loads, no ball....and no reloads.
So Friday, I get home from work and go down to the loading bench.....I haven't loaded in about 3 months, as I have been busy, and haven't been practicing as much as I should. Looking at my notes, I haven't loaded 9mm for nearly 6 months.
Set the press (Dillon 550) up for 9mm(Lugar),....I have a few hundred cleaned cases in a ziplock bag.... find a half box of 125g (hard) lead truncated cone bullets on the shelf and do my checks...... OAL, ok. Powder charge is set up for 3.5 g of 231. Cool. Toss some primers in a tray, load the tube, and away I go.
I check, on average, every 10th case.
Good thing. For some reason, the powder measure was tossing 2.5 to 4.6 grain loads. 2.5 won't function most autos, but will (generally) push the bullet from the bore. But my load data shows 4.1 is a max load.
4.6 bad.
So I threw those loads into the reject can for later disassembly.
Put that powder in a different can , and tried a new batch.
Same deal.
Throwing weights from 2.6 to 4.6 grains.
Took the whole powder measure apart....down to individual parts. Nothing apparently wrong. everything that should move, does so smoothly. Everything that shouldn't, doesn't. I dunno. Mebbe a cat hair (we have 6) ? piece of dirt?
Put it back together? Tosses powder loads at 3.5g to 3.7g. not great accuracy, but acceptable for training ammo. Still not sure what happened.
But I loaded 200 rounds, weighing every single one. Single loading the Dillon press is inefficient... Can't be too sure here. My pistols will probably handle 4.6 grains of 231, but that is a fair overload, so I'd rather not find out.
Gonna have to call Dillon Precision on Monday. I know that they will either help me fix it or replace the powder measure. (lifetime warranty, and they mean it)
In the meantime, I have ammo for the Ladies.
MC is going with me to be an extra set of eyes and all that. It'll be fun.

Having said what I did below
I am glad to see the Supremes FINALLY make a decision on gay marriage.
Sadly, while I DO think it is the right decision, the legitimacy of SCOTUS is tarnished with the decision referenced below.

to believe in the rule of law.
I didn't always follow the law, but that is a story for another day.
I did, until today, believe in our laws, as adjudicated (more or less....Less rather than more recently) by the courts.
Yet, today, I am seeing that even our Supreme Court of the United States is, a least in part, a tool of our political leaders.
How else can they change the meanings of words written into law? How else could they have adjudicated the King Vs Burwell case the way they did?
If they can change the meaning of "State", they can also change the meaning of "Arms" Or "Keep and Bear" or "the People". They can decide to re-define "Citizen" and/or "rights"... They can, in other words, change the Constitution, should they desire. This is wrong.
One is as valid as any other.
If the law is written wrongly, then, legislatively, fix it. Not via the Courts. The only thing the Courts should be able to do is decide a law is legal, or not. Valid, or not valid.

Not my flag
But yet, I do have a dog in this hunt.
The Confederate flag. Stars and Bars.
It stands for different things to different people (and generally different cultures).
To those who have a history...ancestors who fought the war (sometimes described as the war of Northern aggression, to others the Civil War) it represents the proud heritage of a culture which chose not to easily surrender their way of life to people who thought they knew better and who chose to order the changes without representation from the people whose way of life they wished to change.
To others, most of whom really don't know, it represents slavery....a time when people bought and sold human beings like cattle, and put them to work, with essentially zero rights as human beings.
The flag ( the Stars and Bars) means neither to me, really. I am what southerners would call a Yankee....born and raised. I've visited the South, and have found the people there, both white and black, to be fairly nice people. (not talking about ghetto denizens, just normal every day working class folks).
To some Racists, white Supremacists, etc, it is a symbol of their beliefs.....
To me it is a flag. Nothing else.
But now it has become a "symbol of divisiveness and racism"...Really? Just because some little asshole who owned a Confederate Flag killed people...Black People....and fewer than other black people kill in any major city over most weekends? Why is it, now...Today: a "symbol"....why wasn't it bad and banned yesterday, or a month ago, or a year ago?
But symbols are powerful. They mean things to people. To some black people, a noose represents lynching and hatred of blacks. (nevermind that more whites were lynched and hanged than blacks.....and nevermind that they know of no-one that has ever been lynched or hanged)....to them, it is a symbol of fear, and repression, and hatred. I once, long ago had a group of black people demand that I take down a Halloween display because it had a noose on it....and therefore, it was "racist". They didn't know me, but they knew what the symbol meant to them. (I refused, despite a visit from the police).
And so it is with the Stars and Bars. For some, it is a symbol of pride ("The South is gonna do it again!"didn't happen the first time dude..."again" suggests it happened once. You lost the first time....). For others, it is a symbol of hate. For others, it is a symbol of repression and fear and racism. For many, it is a rallying point...whether that point is for unity, or for demanding change...they want it gone. Not for what it means to others, but for what they think it means.
And so, because one deranged young man, who may or may not have been sane, and who was, certainly a user of mind altering drugs, major retailers like Walmart, Sears, and Amazon and Ebay are removing any products which have some resemblance to the Confederate flag.
They are private businesses, they have the right to do so, no matter how stupid the reasons.
Will they also remove symbols which I find to represent racism? I find the MalcomX "X"symbol to be irritating and offensive and while it wasn't meant that way originally, it now represents Black racism towards whites. Are they gonna remove that from their shelves/web pages? How about the "Black Power" raised fist? The Black Panther Party items? Are they racist? They are to me.....
Where do we stop? Hoodies worn the way black kids do that makes 'em look like thugs? Boots that resemble stormtrooper boots? Gay Pride Rainbow flags to keep the Fundamentalist Christians from foaming over at the thought of 2 men or two women ...... Or is it only Unapproved Flags that the Liberals choose to decry and banish??
Look, folks, it isn't the symbol. It is what the symbol means to you or to another person. The fact that you don't like what the symbol means to YOU isn't anyone elses problem....or shouldn't be.
Now I really think that just because a segment of our country doesn't like the Confederate Flag being flown by southern states...well, too bad. Move to another state. It flew there before you or your parents or your grandparents were born.
For some people, the American Flag is a symbol of hate and oppression. But I will fight you tooth and nail, with all my being and all my wealth and all my blood before I let you have that flag removed. It is the symbol of MY country....and all the laws and documents and people that make it the best place in the world.........To many people, that set of Stars and Bars is just as valuable, just as sacred and has just as much meaning.
And I am especially offended that they use the blood of innocent churchgoers to help their attempts at removal of that symbol.

It stands for different things to different people (and generally different cultures).
To those who have a history...ancestors who fought the war (sometimes described as the war of Northern aggression, to others the Civil War) it represents the proud heritage of a culture which chose not to easily surrender their way of life to people who thought they knew better and who chose to order the changes without representation from the people whose way of life they wished to change.
To others, most of whom really don't know, it represents slavery....a time when people bought and sold human beings like cattle, and put them to work, with essentially zero rights as human beings.
The flag ( the Stars and Bars) means neither to me, really. I am what southerners would call a Yankee....born and raised. I've visited the South, and have found the people there, both white and black, to be fairly nice people. (not talking about ghetto denizens, just normal every day working class folks).
To some Racists, white Supremacists, etc, it is a symbol of their beliefs.....
To me it is a flag. Nothing else.
But now it has become a "symbol of divisiveness and racism"...Really? Just because some little asshole who owned a Confederate Flag killed people...Black People....and fewer than other black people kill in any major city over most weekends? Why is it, now...Today: a "symbol"....why wasn't it bad and banned yesterday, or a month ago, or a year ago?
But symbols are powerful. They mean things to people. To some black people, a noose represents lynching and hatred of blacks. (nevermind that more whites were lynched and hanged than blacks.....and nevermind that they know of no-one that has ever been lynched or hanged)....to them, it is a symbol of fear, and repression, and hatred. I once, long ago had a group of black people demand that I take down a Halloween display because it had a noose on it....and therefore, it was "racist". They didn't know me, but they knew what the symbol meant to them. (I refused, despite a visit from the police).

You know, the Black on Black shootings.....
The Black on White shootings.....
The terrible genocide(s) in Africa, which are tribal, rather than race, related.
They only focus on this one terrible thing that happened a few days ago:
In the wake of the heinous attack on Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina, the United Nations Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent released a statement calling on the United States to “investigate the hate crimes” and take “urgent measures” for gun control.
9 lives. Yes, a terrible tragedy. ( people who didn't deserve to die). Shot by a deranged white kid. On psychotropic drugs. (There are those who say that he was programmed, a drone, and those murdered people were merely "eggs for the omelet" of race relations issues for the upcoming elections, and I cannot find where they are wrong.....)
Yet they forget that in Chicago alone, this month, more shootings took place. Black people shooting other black people. Yes, most of those were drug or gang related, not decent people in a church. But that happened in a place where there are some of the strictest gun control measures.
BUT WE MUST DO MORE!!!!

'twas pointed out to me....
that the acceptance of Rachel Dolezal and those who "Self Identify" as black by the liberals (and the NAACP) is, really, the death knell of such programs as Affirmative Action and other race based programs designed to "level the playing field" for African Americans...
AndBruce Caitlyn Jenner shall do the same for those programs designed for women...
If we all can self identify as whatever we wish, then the real black/women/hispanic/minority deal is flushed away.......leaving us only with US citizens and Non-US citizens.....
I, personally, Self Identify as a black, female, Vietnam Veteran with war wounds (for the record, I am NONE of those things) because that is where the money is in government grants and set asides and such.
Just food for thought.....

Only cops should have guns
Because they are trained and all that......
Yet things like this happen.
Cops are human, some good, some bad, sometimes they snap. Sometimes they go crazy. We don't know what she did to him or any of the details. (Not making excuses for his behavior here either). We simply don't know.
But that argument about "only cops should have guns" because they are trained and psychologically tested and all that folderol falls apart with incidents like this.

Rain again today
Was discussing with a resident of Texas rain (it is interrupting his work up here) and I pointed out that Texas had it worse. At least it stops for a day here and there.
He said Yes, that was true, and (up to a point) they needed the rain.
But he also pointed out that no matter how flooded the state gets, it never seems to drown the damned fire ants.
Why is that?

I have a notification that I can get Windows 10 for free from Microsoft.
Forums say this is a good thing, but some say this will become a subscription sort of thing.
I HATE ---really absolutely positively HATE--- windows 8.X. Can't stand it. Hate the tiles, Hate the whole fucking thing. It's probably great in a tablet, but I'm using a laptop.
So if I upgrade, to 10, what is it like....More like 8, or can it be like 7? And if I DON'T upgrade, then what? At some point next year or whatever I can't use my machine and haveta upgrade anyway? (or buy a new machine or whatever?)
(knowledgeable) Advice is sought.
Please, don't advise me to go Linux.
ETA: Is Microsoft gonna continue to support 7 after 10 comes down the pike? Or will those of us whochoose to stay in the Dark Ages fail to take the upgrade when offered to 10 (free) get screwed later?

How do they know the van in "armored"? It isn't all that easy to armor a vehicle...
The patterns of the bullet holes tell me that the description of the guns used by the (alleged) attackers as "automatic weapons" is a lie.
Many suspects, but they only caught one, and he isn't talking (as he is at room temperature), so really, How DO THEY KNOW how many there may or may not have been? They assume more than one, but the attack took place in the dark, and really, cops have no idea the amount of shit one person who is motivated and unafraid of death can dish out in a short time.
And finally, one might have thought that Dallas could have found a Chief of Police who could speak reasonably well....Sadly, he can't.

Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) on Wednesday warned Republicans that if they don’t reach another bipartisan deal to lift spending ceilings, they risk causing another government shutdown this fall.
Let 'em shut it down. If it were me, I'd shut the whole thing down (less the military), and let it stay down for a month Close all those departments like DOE, Dept of Ed, Interior, ATF, etc. Then see what parts we miss, and reactivate those. Let the rest stay shut down until we (they, actually) find a way to not spend more than we bring in each year. In fact, I'd cut them so far that we would have a surplus of 10% until we pay down that debt.
But that's just me....someone who has to stop spending when I am out of credit and all....
