"If we wish to be free -- if we mean to preserve inviolate those inestimable privileges for which we have been so long contending -- if we mean not basely to abandon the noble struggle in which we have been so long engaged, and which we have pledged ourselves never to abandon until the glorious object of our contest shall be obtained, we must fight! I repeat it, sir, we must fight! An appeal to arms and to the God of Hosts is all that is left us!
They tell us, sir, that we are weak -- unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be the next week, or the next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed, and when a British guard shall be stationed in every house? Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance, by lying supinely on our backs, and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?"
Patrick Henry
Just someting to think about. When is the day? When is enough enough? How many more freedoms and liberties protected by our constitution shall we allow the powers-that-be to erode until they are merely thin shells of what they once were and what made this country great and the destination of freedom loving people from the entire world? How many more restrictions on our freedoms shall we allow? How much more power over our lives shall we give up to the "government"? How many more times shall we disregard the restrictions that the constitution places on "government"?
I know that I am becoming less and less enchanted with our governing officials.....Where is your limit? Mine is approaching.
Re-Read Patrick Henry's words. Ask yourself how you think he would answer you today???
Now ask yourself what do we do about it?
How do we remove these non-representing represetatives in our government?...Legally, if possible, if not......?

"The way you stop racial discrimination is to stop discriminating by race" - Chief Justice Roberts
Glad to see that the Supreme Court (5 out of nine, anyway) understands that discrimination is discrimination, no matter what the color or race, or gender of the people involved.
If blacks, or whites, or hispanics, or women or whatever cannot cut the mustard, and meet whatever standards are in place, then that's too bad. Life ain't fair. Statistically based hirings a discriminatory as any other. TO hire someone who is back or female to met a quota, or not hire someone because they are white, or black or male, yet are qualified because of a quota, is discrimination.
Now if we could only make the other 4, (and potential justice Sotomayor) to understand this, we'd be on a path to get this country back on track.
But I doubt that this will ever happen, all in the interest of "fairness"

Revenge
Anyone who has a Representative who voted for the "carbon cap and trade" boondoggle, please remember their name and actively campaign against their reelection. Once again, we see Partisan politics at work, and we see our reps voting for a bill that they HAVE NOT REVIEWED IN ITS ENTIRETY. How can they vote in YOUR interests if they are unaware as to what a bill contains?
IMNSHO this should be illegal, and those who go along with this sort of thing are violating the contract that they made with their constituents. It is, IMNSHO, treachery that in other times and other days with other values would have resulted in the perpetrator being shot for their actions...... Good thing for them that that is illegal in today's world.
But in some places in the south, I am led to understand, lynchings are still legal with proper cause.....

Yep, as the VA and Medicare, so the rest of the nation
This is an example of what we can look forward to if the federal government (democrats) gets what they want: socialized medicine.
The bureaucracy is bad enough in private care. But government run healthcare is likely to make the VA look like a well run clinic for aging millionaires...
Let's not forget the fact that those of us who actually work and pay taxes will be paying for those who do neither....

"A mistake a free people get to make only once"
...government is an entity which stays benign only so long as those who make up its character are so disposed. The very soul, mind, heart and action of any government are a direct expression of the morality, or lack of it, by those who make up the government and those who elect them. "

Then ask yourself, "What am I gonna do to prepare for it? And what am I gonna do to try and stop it?"
Then ask yourself again,..."How am I gonna prepare for it?" Then start.
Think about it....

another thought about Iran vs the US...
From Fabius Maximus comes similar thoughts to mine regarding our acceptance of the status quo vs the Iranians.....Not quite so revolutionary as mine, but in the same vein.....Take the time to follow the links and see another view....The point about focused anger is interesting.
I tole ya so
Via Insty, we have THIS.....
So, there is science that indicates that Carbon Dioxide and mankind are NOT contributing to Glowbal Warmening.......
But the liberals never let the truth (and science) get in the way of their agenda, do they????
Never let a crisis go to waste, even if you have to manufacture that same crisis.
Especially if you worship at the church of Glowbal Warmening.....

SO Obama lerans a lesson?
Seems that Mr. Ahmadinejad doesn't like Mr. Obama. When Obama made a statement about the crackdowns in Iran, Mr Ahmadinejad got petulant and blustery and antagonistic. I guess that Obama might have to learn a lesson here. The culture of the Persians is one where accommodation and cooperation and being conciliatory is taken as a sign of weakness, and when you hold your ground (not that Obama has done much but criticize, and was late to do that) then you become an enemy again. How much ground did he gain with Iran by being conciliatory? Zero. If anything, his conciliatory tone made Iran braver.
You'd think that someone as educated as Obama would have understood that, but he didn't, and now he gets a lesson. How many more lessons will he have to learn this way?
He is showing that he is as weak as Carter, and just as (if not more) inept in the way he handles our foreign policy. He has not gained ground with our enemies and has effectively insulted our allies.
I learned a long time ago, on the school playground, that the best way to handle a bully is to step on his toes until he apologizes. Apparently, Barry never got that lesson, and is learning it now. (if he ever does).
Accommodation in the attempt to create dialog assumes that the other person is willing to accommodate in return. Barry is learning that not all cultures are willing, and not everyone is a mild mannered liberal in their thinking.
I hope he learns quickly, before he makes a bigger mess of things than what we already have.

An interesting thought:
The left, who cried and cried about the Florida recount in 2000, who cried that the election had been stolen (it wasn't. BTW) has yet to stand up and be counted as being against the current regime in Iran, who may have actually stolen an election.
Interesting, isn't it. They cried that they had been ripped off when they were the losers, all about the "theft of an election" and "theft of democracy" and all that. Jimmeh Carter monitors elections in many countries (or at least, pretends to) for fairness and honesty, yet we hear NOTHING AT ALL from the left regarding the election in Iran.
Strange, isn't it?
(the above question was, in case you are having a bad day, rhetorical....) We are, after all, talking about the left.

Via LawDog comes this GEM.
I urge you to write, call, email, fax, send a carrier pigeon, telex, or whatever (sometimes I dream of delivering my message wrapped around a rock tossed through a window.....but then again, I don't like jail) your congressman (woman) or representative and tell them that the customs department has gone a bit to far in their attempt to make the world safe for everyone. This issue has been brewing for a while, but now that the Customs service has decided not to consider changes to the proposed law, the time has come for us to do something.
I like my SOG twitch. I use it as a tool. Not as a weapon (although I could, but then again, I could use a hammer or a large wrench as a weapon too). I like the ability to open the thing with one hand and it is handy to be able to do so when working on something in a confined space or when holding something with the other hand.
There comes a time when the regulation by our government become oppressive enough, and irritating enough that something must be done.
Deliver the message to your congresscritters please. (don't use a rock, tempting though it might be).
Or allow another small bit of regulation to crumble your freedom just a bit more.

Thoughts
"Don't shoot fast, shoot good."
and then there is the classic:
"If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck."
But my favorite is:
"You can say 'stop' or 'alto' or use any other word you think will work, but I've found that a large bore muzzle pointed at someone's head is pretty much the universal language."
Your mileage may vary....

Fer Christ's sake, lets never let anyone hurt themselves or anyone else
Because, your know, we gotta make the world safe for everyone, even fools and/or drunks.
Via FERFAL, I bring you this knife from Britain. Is it any wonder the British Empire is no more, with thinking like this? Soon, I am sure, this will be the only type of knife allowed on Britain, with forced exchange of your current knife for one of the new design. Read the website, realize that it is designed to prevent you from being able to stab or cut anything that is not food.
I have indeed cut myself with a kitchen knife, (but I didn't like the resultant pain and bleeding, so I try not to do it anymore) but if the referenced knife will not do to stab anyone, then I would find another tool for the job, should I be inclined towards homicide. If you are too stupid to operate a knife, (or too drunk, or whatever) then you deserve to cut yourself. You'll either bleed to death eventually (cleansing the gene pool) or learn not to cut yourself or to operate a knife while drunk.
How safe is the world supposed to be? Can the state remove anything that could be a weapon from everyone and still allow us to do anything? Or is that the point? (or lack therof).

Election Fraud in Iran
Since when did they have ACORN in Iran?
Did the US export it? Or is it the special muslim chapter of ACORN?
Perhaps they were just advisors.....
Did the US export it? Or is it the special muslim chapter of ACORN?

JUST A THOUGHT:
"If you think health care is expensive now wait until you see what it costs when it’s free.”
P.J. O'Rourke
P.J. O'Rourke
1 in 6....
2 million out of the 12 million in Tehran, Iran.....1 person in 6 is standing at the barricades, protesting fraud in the election. People have been shot, yet they still stand in protest. They have no second amendment, and are forced to fight back with bottles, rocks and molotov cocktails.
Yet we, here in America, do nothing. We have the tools, the means, and the reason to do the same, We stand by idly, and watch as our future is stolen from us. We have better means to fight back, yet we stand idly and allow the current regime to loot the wealth of this nation.
If 1 in 6 people in Chicago were to do so, there would be 1 million at the protest. In New York, 3 million. In Atlanta, 100,000. If 1 in 6 in the US were to protest, it would be 51,000,000. Fifty-one Million people protesting. We will, of course have to generally write off the west coast, but still, we could make a difference if we chose to do so.
As it is, in Iran, 1 in 35 people are protesting. Were that to happen in the US, that would be 8.7 million people protesting.
We have the power to make "change". Yet we sit on our asses and do nothing. That kind of mass protest would indeed make a difference. But we sit on our lard and let them do it to us. The Iranians face possible death to protest the stealing of their country. We choose to do nothing to protest the theft of our future.
Why? Is it just not bad enough, or do we just not realize what is happening? Perhaps we are as lazy as the rest of the world thinks.
I include myself in the group of lazy people. I attended the "Tea Parties", but I have done nothing since. And things have gotten worse rather than better in the intervening days from then to now.
Yet we sit here, doing nothing. Still.
It's not like I want to see violence in the protests either, just a peaceful demonstration of our dissatisfaction. But the threat of violence should always be present, if only to prevent any from the other side.
I applaud the Iranians for their fortitude. I am saddened by the citizens of my country and our lack of action. We can barely muster even for one day, planned in advance, 1 eighth of their numbers. And we have less to fear from our Law Enforcement than the Iranians do. We have the ability to fight back, should that need arise. They, with few exceptions, do not.
Yet there they are, and here we sit.
Sad, isn't it?

Via Insty we have THIS.
All along, those who knew what they were talking about have said that if we just leave the economy alone, things would get better, and fairly quickly.
Here, we have proof:
"The New York Times reported that the U.S. economy "might be stabilizing, if not rebounding, even as economic reports in Europe remained gloomy." "
sounds good, right? Except for the this niggling little fact:
"One problem with attributing America's slightly less bad economic news to the Obama-backed $787 billion stimulus package is that very little of the money actually has been spent. As of a month ago, less than 6 percent of the stimulus money had gone out, and only 25 percent is expected to make its way into the economy by the end of the year. "
adn the admission, buried deep in the article, that ""it is impossible to know how much the apparent, if nascent, stabilization of the American economy comes from the stimulus spending and how much from moves like propping up the banking and credit systems, especially because much of the stimulus money has yet to make it to the economy." "
So we spent all of the money for the next how many years to accomplish, what exactly?
Perhaps we should rescind the rest of the "stimulus", since it appears that it is not needed.
Then again: "Never let a good crisis go to waste"......
Read the whole thing.

I give you this for your consideration.
I have few comments except to say that to lower standards for any group of people demeans all of the members of that group, be they police, firefighters, midshipmen or anything. Standards are standards for a reason. Plus, it gives ammunition to those who say that minorities are less than whites.
And that is a shame.
Besides, shouldn't we have only the best and brightest at the Naval Academy? Whatever their race?

Someday this will happen here in the US
I hope that the US handles things better than Iran.
Here is one story regarding those brave souls who are fed up with the current regime and want real change......I hope Mr Obama can hold it together enough that the people don't take the actions of the Iranians as an example of how to make change.
The big difference is that here we have guns and most of us know how to use them.
Lets hope it never happens here.

Via the Freeholder comes this link from Reason regarding Heinlein's views on his upcoming 100th anniversary of his birthday.
If you haven't read R. A. Heinlein's novels, you should. They are at once dated and timeless.
If you haven't read R. A. Heinlein's novels, you should. They are at once dated and timeless.
So I ask you:
When is enough, enough?
We have an administration which meddles in EVERYTHING. That in itself would be bad enough.....But the way they meddle.... Like children with a new knife, not knowing the consequences of their actions. The surety of purpose that is only present in academia. Those with the hubris to "know" that they, the "intelligentsia" know better than all the rest.
They have screwed with our economy, they have, by most reckonings extended the economic crisis rather than reduced it. They have strongarmed the bankruptcy courts and the investors in the car companies, making deals with the unions that basically screw the other secured investors. They have given trillions of dollars to financial institutions with little or no oversight as to how it is spent, but have used these "loans" to attempt to put into place controls that are so onerous that many banks that were strongarmed into taking the TARP money are trying to return said cash. They have loaned money to Chrysler and to GM with no way to get it back, essentially giving billions of dollars to these corporations. This is money that is the property of you, and me, and our children and our children's children.
All these "experiments", these amateurish attempts to fix a system that is fundamentally sound, and that will quickly re-establish itself if left alone, have not done anything to create jobs or to re establish investor confidence. Rather, these child like fumblings have extended the misery and have increased unemployment and decreased investor confidence.
Someone needs to tell these children that "we the people" (not me!) that have put them into office that this is not the protected world of academia, but rather the real world, where actions have consequences and where decisions poorly thought out can severely harm the system and the people who are its parts.
"Knowing" how to fix things, in a college bull session sort of way is a far cry from really having any knowledge of the system, and therefore, the effects of any changes you should wish to make.
I hope all those who voted for "change" choke on the changes that Mr Obama and his fine advisers are making to our way of life.
I hope that the administration realizes that this country grew and became great on the principles of freedom from oppression and freedom for businesses to grow, and earn, and create jobs. Rather than the system he is putting into place. Left alone, our system would heal itself and recover quickly. Meddled with, however, it may well crumble into dust.
So I ask you. When is enough, enough? when will we go beyond "tea parties" and do whatever it takes to force our elected officials back to the path that from which they should fear to deviate? When will we cry STOP! and force them to return to the path that made this country great?
When will we reign in the change that is causing such damage to our economy,,,,that once proud economic engine that brought wealth and a high standard of living to all of the citizens of the US?
How do we stop this "change"?
We had better figure out how to do so very soon, or the changes to our way of life will be irreversible. Soon, this country shall begin to look like a large version of Europe. And that is not a good thing.
We must reign in this congress soon. 2010 is too far away.
JMHO.
When is enough, enough?

JMHO.

Who knew?
Captain Crunch cereal with crunchberries contains no fruit.
Crunchberries are not really berries....Whoda thunk that?
Only in Kalifornia.....But at least the judge dismissed the case.
I mean, after 4 (yep, four) years, she finally figured out that crunchberries aren't fruit of any kind.
I am so crushed. I always thought crunchberries were part of my morning fruit ration.
Apparently the only fruit at her breakfast table was the one holding the spoon.

RIP Grasshopper......
David Carradine found dead in Bangkok.
Reports are that he was found in his motel room.
For many of us, he will always be Kwai Chang Caine in Kung Fu, the monk who toured the west, righting wrongs and taking the side of the oppressed, using his strength and his prowess for good, never showing anger, only patience, always trying diplomacy first, resorting to violence last, but with great vigor and focus. A bunch of short plays about morality and doing what is right. His influence on many youths was profound. I see few actors today that had his presence.
I will also remember him in "Death Race 2000". A cheezy movie, but still....
Yeah, I know, he was just an actor and all that. But he was, for me, as iconic as John Wayne, and as influential.
His passing marks the passing of an era for many.
RIP, Grasshopper. May you snatch the pebble once more in the afterlife.

you gotta be fucking kidding me...
This story shows what asses the courts are.
Teachers have no need for dug tests? Come on. If anyone needs to be clean, it is those who are interacting with, and educating and influencing the thinking of children.
of course, it's not like they are doing something important like driving a truck, or something.
They are government employees fer chrissake! They all should be subject to random testing.
Make no mistake, One of the most influential teachers that I had in high school was a borderline alcoholic. But he was ALWAYS sober when he was in school. ALWAYS.
ANd, for the record, I can pass a drug test anytime.
But when you take the state's money, you should be subject to the laws of the state.
And moreso if you are a cop or a teacher.

Payback is a bitch, ain't it?

Neo-Nazi National Socialist Party group cleans up half mile of highway named for Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel.
A nice bit of turnabout, if I may say so.
I hate hate groups. I believe in their right to exist, and would hate to see them banned (slippery slope and all that) but I like it when they are one-upped. This is a great job by the state and by the Jewish group that made it happen.
No word at this time as to how clean they are keeping the road.

Atlanta - “The decision by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to deny preclearance of Georgia’s already implemented citizenship verification process shows a shocking disregard for the integrity of our elections."
and:
“DOJ has thrown open the door for activist organizations such as ACORN to register non-citizens to vote in Georgia’s elections, and the state has no ability to verify an applicant’s citizenship status or whether the individual even exists."
Article HERE
So the integrity of our electoral process is not sacred to Mr. Obama? (no surprise, he's a democrat)
Forget the fact that by this, he effectively dilutes the value of your vote to something less than one vote per citizen....
He came to power via the Chicago Machine...why should he be any different?
"vote early, vote often"
That day of decision is getting closer and closer.
