Maybe on the Internet but not via the American MSM....I guess it didn't meet the liberal, America hating ,"destroy progress" agenda that they have. (It most likely makes AlGore cry or something)
You should ask yourself why there has been nearly no coverage here is the US. Perhaps Barry O needs the Cap and Trade money to pay for his Socialized Healthcare scheme or something....

I'm not gonna make a joke....
I'm not, I'm not, I'm not...
But the thought of submarines filled with women could lead one down that path....
Seriously, though, WTF? Why the push to force the Navy to accept women everwhere?
I'm not bashing women, and I am not saying that they can't do the job. But much like the controversy with DADT, there ARE issues with women and men (and, for that matter, homosexuals) being in close proximity to other genders/sexual orientations for extended periods. On shore is one thing, in a ship (less room), another....In a sub (even less room), yet another. Perhaps subs staffed with women only?
The Navy will have to refit the sanitary facilities, and privacy, always an issue among hetero men (and even moreso with ladies), will become an even greater issue.
WHY?
What gain is there? More combat effectiveness? I doubt it.
Just so some militant feminist(s) can be submariners? Or is it something else?
When will it end?
Yeah, I know, all the old arguments that are rehashed each and every time this comes up, but the fact is that there WILL be issues, there are issues now with women and men on ships as it stands.

so this occurs to me...
Just to be fair, since we have Black History Month this month (highlighting all the special folks who, throughout history who may have been black, or partially so, to be remembered and revered for a 30 day period, their accomplishments highlighted and their less than savory sides hidden) Do the rest of the races get their fair share of the rest of the months?
According to Wikipedia, the percentage of the population which is listed as "black" is 12.4%, or one in eight people. OK, they get the month of February. (which is one in 12 parts of the year more or less). (to be fair, they should get about a month and a half, or 6 weeks...)
Since Hispanics are 15.4% of the population, they should get "Hispanic History Month" which should really be about 7 weeks....
Asians should get about 2 weeks for their period of pride...
Whites, being 75% of the population, should there fore get 8 weeks or so to crow our accomplishments, and promote our "heroes".
We, being the majority, can give a few days to each of the other ethnic groups to give them a chance to show pride in the accomplishments of their race.
Personally, I think the whole dammned thing is racist and stupid, but we have a history of pandering to the insecurities of our minorities, (which is why they cannot seem to rise above the racism that other folks have. (see also the Irish, the Poles, and many others).
So when is White History season? I'll settle for just a quarter, rather than 3/4 of the year.

I just gotta ask
I mean, I realize that the reason that over 60% of the population of the US doesn't want any part of socialized medicine is because we are too stupid to understand the nuances of the plan(s)put forth by the socialist party DNC drones....and we are also too stupid to understand the explanation (s) given to us by der leader the One Mr. Obama (may he rest in peace)....
But since over 60% of us dislike the idea of DMV like drones making health care decisions Socialized Medicine, then WHY are they pushing this AGAIN?
What is so important about socialized medicine that the leadership is willing to fail AGAIN? Destroying your party and what little power base it has left in an all out push AGAIN to promote Socialized Health Care? Towards what gain?
I realize that the socialists DNC party folks that are movers and shakers in the movement have had health care run by government drones Socialized medicine as a goal for something like 65 years, but still..... Even with a majority in the House and Senate, they still couldn't get it done in the last year. It cost them seats in the Senate, and most likely governorships and other spots in government and will no doubt cost them the majorities in both houses of congress.
They might be able to recover from some of this, and regain their power.... yet they still and again are pushing for some kind of bill that they can call "Socialized Medicine". Why are they willing to go against the will of the people that elected them, when recent events have shown that it can be suicide?
At what cost? What, besides the thin end of the socialist wedge, can they be gaining? Is it just that the edge of the wedge of socialism can lead to ever increasing socialist programs (like we don't have enough now?), Or is it that they have to act before there is even more damage done to their base of power? Can the advancement of Socialism be that important to these people that they would destroy themselves in the attempt to do so?
Any continued action on this will further erode their chances for the next 10-12 years...... Yet forward they march.

USMC gets better rifle rounds
This article in the Navy times tells us that the US military is finally addressing the issues with the 5.56 mm round that has been in use for so long.
IMHO, these soldiers should have the most lethal round available to them. It's not like they shoot someone without the intent to cause great bodily harm and/or death.
While the merits of different caliber/bullet/rifle combinations have gone on(and will go on)forever, the fact is that the 5.56 round has issues. Some of these are being addressed with the change to the new bullet design.
But there is no substitute for bullet weight and diameter. Speed helps, but only so much.
A heavy, larger caliber bullet turns cover into concealment.
But this new bullet design should help them do what they do best.
Break things and kill people.

Will we get our climate research money back?

What an embarassment for NASCAR
Seems that the Daytona Track is falling apart, and no one could fix it quickly.
So we hadda wait for 1:45 until they could get the track safe and restart the red-flagged race. I understand that this was for the drivers safety, but for christ's sake, you'd think that they could do better.
The point is that no one bothered to check the track, and that what is arguably the premiere track for NASCAR is falling apart and needs repaving.
You'd think that what with the price of tickets they'd have been able to put a few bucks back for maintenance of the track surface.
You'd think that NASCAR could do better than this.

And in happened again 36 laps later.
Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.
A lesson NASCAR could learn.
Yanno: I kinda quit watching NASCAR last year due to the loss of comeptetiveness with the Car Of Tomorrow, and this was, to be honest, their first chance to make a bad impression, and they succeeded.

When the average "supermarket" has less than 3 days of food on it's shelf in normal times, THIS is what happens when deliveries are temporarily delayed..
And this is why I prep for at least a weak without availability of food/water/fuel/electricity. etc.
When everyone rushes out just before a storm to buy french toast fixins' (milk, butter, bread, eggs) then the stores just run out of food....JIT delivery fails when there are delays due to weather.
How long can you go without a trip to the store? Me? It'll be a while before my roommates and pets need to worry.

Fundamentalist of all religions should be stoned to death once they begin forcing their religion on others, no matter what the means.
Me? I am not Wiccan. But I'd still shoot whoever did this without a qualm.
Let God remove those symbols He finds offensive.

The US Coast Guard shut down all but 5 of the LORAN-C stations on Monday. Not that they were used much since the constellation of GPS satellites was finally finished, but wouldn't it be nice to have a backup if the GPS system is damaged or fails?
Defunded in it's entirety by Mr Obama in October of '09, in order to save $190 million (yep, just a drop in the bucket compared to his spending so far....).
The fact is, that while it might not be used much, LORAN-C would have provided a backup for long range navigation of air travel and ship navigation, and would have given the US a reliable backup navigation in and around the continental US that was effectively bulletproof, unlike the constellation of GPS satellites, which are easily struck by ASAT weapons.
Obsolete? Sure. Redundant? Yes. But it wouldn't take much money to keep the system operating, and it sure would have made for a nice backup to the GPS system.
Bush considered killing the system, but chose not to, in order that the country would have a redundant system to GPS. Not so Mr. Obama. Expect the rest of the world to follow the lead of the US.
Perhaps his intent is to weaken this country slowly, incrementally.

This should get interesting:
Seems that the Police Chief in King N.C. has declared a state of emergency due to weather. While this is perhaps no big deal, part of the new rules for the duration of said weather emergency is the banning of the carry of firearms outside of a person's property. No one is allowed to carry on public property (streets, etc).
It would seem to me that this is exactly the time to carry a firearm. (I, of course, do so every day anywhere that I can legally do so (which is generally everywhere)).
Not that I am unsympathetic to the issues and problems that the C.O.P is no doubt encountering, but to be able to, by declaration, invalidate the second amendment is not something to be taken lightly.
One would wonder if the good citizens of King, NC will allow him to get away with this. I certainly wouldn't, but so far my sheriff hasn't tried (I don't think that he is that stupid). Perhaps the laws in NC allow for such, but not in my home state.

Why all muslims will, unfortunately, always be suspect.
And why our current screening methods will never, ever work.
We cannot ever be more than reactive in our current attempt to screen every person attempting air travel, or entering buildings for weapons. Especially with the TSA folks trying to stop them. Our current methods will never stop a determined suicide bomber (at least not one with a level of intelligence greater than that of broccoli).
We react, they will react. It ends up being a game of one-upmanship. And they only have to get it right one time, and people die. And until we realize that, we will always be on the losing side of things. In order to win this game, we must be rationl, and accept that some folks are a greater risk than others. Is it fair? Nope. But it is realistic. Our current methods suck. No matter how much PC we attempt, someone will get their sensibilities hurt, and we had better realize that and learn to deal with it.
Better we use the Israelis methods. They seem to work, and they really don't care if someone gets pissed off.

More Bad Science (not GW this time)
Seems that the "Lancet" has retracted the paper on Vaccinations and the risk of autism.
Not a surprise to anyone that had read it, but it was Bad Science. Much like the "science" used in Glowbal Warmening research, this was a study that used poor methodology to arrive at a predetermined conclusion.
How many kids did not get vaccinated, and subsequently were sterile, or blind or in some other way harmed by preventable childhood diseases, all due to the doubt sown by this paper? How many kids died because of this? Even farther, how many kids or adults are at risk because they weren't vaccinated as children? How many are carriers of these diseases today, and are spreading them, and acting as reservoirs of disease for the next generation?
Why do we trust such journals as "Lancet" and "Nature", and "Scientific American"? Once they were truly peer reviewed scientific journals, where any paper submitted was reviewed based on their merits and the methods used. Now they are populist magazines, with articles that mention popular topics and follow the current popular line of thinking, rather than true science. I grew up reading Scientific American, learning a lot from the articles I read once my father had finished his monthly copy, When I moved out of his house, I got my own subscription. Then, about 10 years ago, when the Glowbal Warmening craze started, and SA published articles (not "papers") on GW and I saw the lack of science, I wrote to them asking where the science was. They never replied, and I canceled my subscription.
I learned the "scientific method" in HIGH SCHOOL, for gods sake. Why cannot the folks at these once prestigious "scientific journals" see beyond the politics and temporary flash of a current fad, and REVIEW articles and papers for scientific validity before publishing them? Can they not follow the scientific method that most of us learned in high school? How can they allow such rubbish to be published? Why do they essentially lie to us and destroy our trust in their prestigious name?
Once a paper is allowed to be published in a journal such as these, the "facts" presented in the paper then become believed, especially by politicians (most of whom have nether the training nor the intellect to understand the conclusion, much less the methodology). Unfortunately, these folks then make policy based upon those "conclusions" and use the "data" to determine how that policy will be implemented.
"Scientists" in general are , due to these journals and scandals, becoming less and less trusted. Who knows what is true and what is fad?

Seems some guy was found under a concrete slab, and police think (but only think, mind you) that there might have been foul play. It could be that he walked to the scene of his death and fell into the hole just before they poured cement over him, and no one noticed....
"Somebody put that body in that hole," Gee said. "This isn't by any means just where we find someone on the side of the road. Somebody has obviously put him there."
Only the finest go into public service, it would seem.
Why would anyone utter such a stupid quote to a reporter? Cops have enough trouble being though of as smart as it is, without having this guy as a representative sample.

Ladies and gentlemen: My fellow Americans.
I am here tonight to discuss the state of our Union. I and my fellow Party members have been in charge for a year now, and while the state of the union was less than optimal last year at this time, I am proud to say that we have made many changes to our union.
The state of our union today is, well, disgusting. Our financial institutions are not lending, our economy is in shambles, our citizens are either unemployed or expecting to be, our industry is stagnant, and our military is demoralized.
Our once strong country is weakened by fear, and uncertainty. Our once proud citizens are choosing not to spend the little disposable income they have, for fear of using their last reserves of cash, and and they are not able to borrow money to purchase anything because they (and their financial institutions) fear that they will be unable to repay their loans.
Our once strong industrial base is in a waiting mode, unwilling and unable to expand because of several things; A tight credit market, and uncertainty as to what their future operating costs might be because our legislative and executive branch cannot give them a clear future. Due to the Health Care Reform debacle, and pending Carbon Cap and Trade legislation, we have left them an uncertain future that has effectively stalled any real growth.
Under my leadership I and the legislative branch have effectively made our economy worse than it was. Our TARP program initiated by my predecessor, and the additional Stimulus plan have effectively caused a decline in the buying power of our dollar, and have effectively enslaved our citizens for generations to come with a debt that no one knows how to repay, all with no measurable effect on our economy. But hey, we tried...
The State of our union is: Angry. So angry in fact, that we have effectively killed our chances of passing any of the our grandiose, overreaching legislation that we, in our hubris, would have passed for all of you, my fellow citizens, because we know what is best for you. You folks are angry enough to have overwhelmingly rejected any candidate in those special elections who might have any relationship to me or my fellow Democrats. You folks just don't know what is good for you.
Our Union is: Demoralized. We have many folks who want to work, and are productive when they work, but there is no work for them to do. My policies have stagnated our economy, and for that I am proud. Where there was once a vibrant economy, there is now unemployment. I will fix that. I will give special treatment to our union Brothers and Sisters with whom we stand shoulder to shoulder in solidarity, in order that they will be able to grow their ranks and force industry to hire even more nonproductive workers. I will help unions to take even more control of major industries, and if you will let me, I will nationalize even more industries that are in trouble and will absorb them into the Government sphere, creating more opportunities for additional union power and control. Under my leadership we will change this economy into what it should be: a government controlled service based economy dominated by unions that will decrease productivity and hamper growth and change.
The state of our union is:...less than it was before.....Our foreign policy has confused the rest of the world. Under my leadership, we have angered our allies with insult after insult, we have, through my policies, helped our enemies, and we have confused the rest of the world. I have done what I can to weaken the military, and will continue to do so. Our policy in Iraq and Afghanistan, while not what I said that I would do during my campaign, has been forced to change because reality has been a harsh teacher. It appears that my predecessors' policies are not actually that bad. We will, however, do our best to send a muddled and unclear message to the world in the future in order to keep them off balance and prevent any significant changes or forward strides in stability among countries that might make this country safer. I will continue to support the ineffective and corrupt United Nations organization because they support me.
The state of our union is: Confused.....That confusion is because many of you do not realize who I am and what I intend to do. You have not been listening to my message, nor have you surrendered to the belief that I know better. Many of you mistakenly think that if you work hard, and are productive, and take responsibility for your own lives things will get better. You seem to think that all of you can handle your own lives and take care of yourselves. You are mistaken. You must realize that the State should be your caretaker. It is not your responsibility to run your own lives; it is the States responsibility. It is the role of the Government that I head that will take care of you. Give me an ever increasing portion of your wages as taxes and I will increase the help and guidance that the government provides for each and every one of you.
Now: I have something to say to all of you, all of the Citizens of this nation. Let me be clear: I have the path out of darkness: I alone have the key to unlock this society's ills. You must understand that. I, Barack Hussein Obama, know the one true way out of this...

The last one:
The last Cartwright dies: Adam Cartwright, of Ponderosa fame, died at the age of 81, on Sunday, Jan 24th.
The Cartwright family , were in the series, a slightly imperfect, yet always striving, upstanding bunch. While they were, as I have said, imperfect, they generally did what was right, even of it wasn't the easy or comfortable way.
Millions of kids grew up watching the moral dilemmas and how the Cartwright family handled the difficulties that life presented them. We all watched the way that they made decisions based (mostly) on what was the Right Thing, rather than the easy or quick thing. Even when it cost them money, or time, or forced them into a fight that really was not theirs, they did the Right Thing. Standing up for those less fortunate or less strong than they were. they and their council were respected throughout the valley as upstanding men.
In the world of the Ponderosa, men were expected to be Men. Stand tall, be strong, do what is right, be honest, respectful to others, keep your own council, and treat women with respect.Women were expected to be (but not always portrayed as) strong, thoughtful, and helpful to their men.
Were that people in real life were as portrayed by the series. Bad men were easily identifiable, good men the same. Moral dilemmas were easily solved, with Right being easily identified and Bad easy to spot. Seldom were there shades of grey, and the path to take was always apparent. Doing what was Right was not always easy, but it was always good in the end.
Think, for a moment, how many children were raised with the Cartwrights as an example of how to act and interact with others. I do not think that there is a modern series today that does as well.
Raise a glass to the actors who portrayed the Cartwrights. The last of them are gone, but the lessons they imparted to millions (hopefully) live on in each and every one of us.
May they live forever in reruns on TVLand.

Don't get cocky here folks!
You and I both know that this terrible setback for the liberal socialists (sorry for the redundancy) caused by the BROWN win is not going to stop their attempts to instigate socialized medicine.....Instead of One Big Bill that they tried (and failed!) to jam up our asses, they will now retrench, and slowly make the same reforms that they wanted, one piece at a time. Slowly, they will achieve their goals if we are not vigilant and vociferous in our opposition. Expect things to be piggybacked onto other bills, and expect stealth and subterfuge.

Bad idea
Just got a call from a "volunteer" (with a hispanic accent)telling me I needed to call Senator Bayh (spit) and tell him how much I supported amnesty for illegal aliens legislation immigration reform to provide a path to citizenship...
I laughed, and politely suggested that he might have had the wrong house, as I could not support such legislation. When he began to proselytize, I asked if he was a citizen....He would not answer, which was, IMHO, an answer in itself. I asked if he was aware of how much financial damage illegal immigration does to the country. No answer. I asked if he sent money back to Mexico. He said I was being offensive and should be more open minded....I said that I was open minded, but a patriot. He began to call me a right winger....I said that most of my friends found me way too liberal. That gave him pause...

Caller ID shows that it was a 925 area code, which Yahoo says is in northern California.

Make no mistake, many have fulfilled his dream, but so many have squandered it.
So many "Civil Rights" leaders who exist for themselves, not to help their brothers. So many "successful" athletes who fail to help even one other person from their neighborhood. So many black businesspersons who fail to teach others the methods of success.
And so many people who use the color of their skin to collect money from a government, and squander it, and fail to take advantage of the opportunity.
And so many people, black and white, who cannot see beyond the color of the skin, rather than the content of the character.

Kwikie gunshow report
Indy1500...spent the weekend selling Strike-Hold and other stuff for my company, 3 part supply...
Had only a few breaks, as budgetary considerations meant that we were one person short....
A few quick observations...:
Primers are back down to nearly what they should be.
.380 was available, if not as cheap as it should be....Same for nearly all other common calibers of pistol ammo.
Rifle ammo is also available, and again, not at the price it should be, although it is trending slightly downward. Really cheap surplus military calibers, however, seem to be MIA.
Cheap pistols did not seem to be selling, nor were expensive ones. Middle of the road stuff was selling briskly.
Rifle sales seemed to be slowing down, (except for collector stuff) and a LOT of .22 lookalikes/and conversion kits and/or dedicated uppers for AR and/or 1911's were selling briskly as well.
The polikticians were out in full splendor, along with hordes of volunteers to tell us how pro second amendment and how conservative they all are.

Yup, there's a pattern here..
Seems the folks in Haiti are upset because no one is coming to their aid fast enough.
Now look. I'm feeling real sorry for these folks, and I pray that they get help as soon as possible. But to come up with that much response instantaneously is nearly impossible.
As it is, the amount of supplies is staggering, and they are arriving faster than they can be transported to those who need them. The infrastructure (roads) were bad enough BEFORE the quake. Now getting supplies to the needy is even harder.
So how do the citizens of Haiti (and especially on Port-Au-Prince help themselves? They loot shops and pile up roadblocks of corpses in protest.
Not dig others out, not clear roads. not build shelters. Loot and protest.
This behavior is much like some other poor people in another tragedy, in one of our southern states populated by folks with an African and French heritage and culture...Is it the culture? The genetics? Or is it the poverty which forces them into this sort of entitlement behavior? I have my own theory.....You draw your own conclusions.
Realize that other nearby countries are not nearly such shitholes as Haiti is (was)
But the pattern is there if you care to see it.

Put the "intellgence" back into the Intelligence game...
This piece via American Thinker hits the nail right on the head....It's not a lack of intelligence, it is, rather, a lack of intelligence in dealing with it.
Like any bureaucracy, the intelligence game is full of mindless drones. And in normal times, that is ok. But now that is not ok. Just not getting fired is not enough. We need intelligent people, who can "connect the dots", and do things right, each and every time.
Having people who are just putting in their time towards retirement is NOT going to keep the citizens of (and visitors to) this country safe.
"They" (the enemy, the jihadists) will keep trying. We must have people who are at least as cunning as "they" are to thwart "them". Drones will not get the job done.
Civil service laws be damned. Get the right folks in there, and the pencil pushing REMFS who just need to get their time in, and their proper tickets punched the hell out of the "intelligence" game.
Or soon, we will have airlines falling from the skies, or a city turn into a green glass parking lot.

Perhaps I should start a church....
Here is why....If it's good enough for the Amish, then it's good enough for me.
We could call it the "First church of Phred".....
Whatever we should call it, it's main tenet would be that we object on "religious grounds" to paying into a government run and mandated health care system, rather than making our own choices.
Think it would fly? I'm almost willing to give it a shot...
Might include mandatory firearm ownership in there as well.....might could come up with some other stuff too.
But as leader of the church, I'd most likely have to collect tithes and such...probably be a bookkeeping nightmare
Perhaps we should find a hall and work out what the gods will require of us.

Here is another anecdote, and observation about the "security" procedures we have at our airports. As is this. And this.
The Kabuki Theater we have instead of security (performed by the mindless TA workers) does little to enhance our security. It isn't designed to do that. It is designed to discourage people who are security threats, and to force people into compliance. It does little (if not less) to create a secure environment, and it is possible that you are, when you fly today, less secure than you were before 9/11/01.
Look: I have no doubt that this is a tough job. And I have no doubt that many of the TSA folks are doing the best they can. But the system is designed for failure, and the workforce is, I have noticed, not what you might call the highest motivated nor drawn from the least murky gene pool...Not to mention a management pyramid that does not cause the best and brightest to rise to the top.
We have here, a largely poorly trained force that costs a significant amount of money, which inconveniences a large number of people every day for little, if any, gain.
But hey, it employs a lot of people who otherwise might have worked at McDonalds, or Taco Bell, thus making it harder for those establishments to hire, and to make a profit. And it does, no doubt, give them something to do, and probably influences them to vote for the current stars of the DNC. And, of course, provide them with some sort of health care benefits and such....
What it does NOT do is to make you safer.

It's about time...
only like 9 years late
Seems that there is now a fatwa prohibiting attacks against the US and Canada by extremists.....It is no longer a good idea..In fact, anyone with knowledge of such an attack or plans thereof should expose such plans....
Well, it is a step in the right direction, if a little late.
And, in order to make it stick, they had to state that any attack against either country was an attack against the Muslim citizens of our countries.....Not just that the attacks themselves are wrong (apparently as the rest of us are infidels it might not be wrong to attack us?????)

Confidence inspiring, ain't it?
So once again the TSA is in the spotlight. Since they are now 8 years old, one might expect that the management of the TSA would have had time to get their shit together in one sock, and be able to keep it there. But apparently once a person becomes a government employee, their IQ and attention span decreases by at least 10%.
The "security breach" at Newark on 1/3/10 shows just how much we have gained in security.....It's not just that some guy who took the job because the local McDonalds wasn't hiring that day was not paying attention. It was also because the folks in charge of the cameras had apparently not bothered to make sure that this important piece of technology was operating....
I'm sure that everyone involved, the techs, the officer(s) and especially the management will be beaten and then "thrown roughly to the floor" disciplined and then summarily dismissed.
The fact is that you need very few credentials in order to be hired to be a TSA agent. IIRC, you do not need a H.S. diploma or G.E.D., nor are their any IQ tests. In fact, these are the same people (and their friends and siblings) who were doing your security BEFORE 9-11, only with better benefits and more comfortable (and official looking) uniforms....
So why, after nearly 8 years, can they not do any better?
It is frightening to me that we have examples like this, and that of the Post Office USPS, to inspire confidence in the government operation of our health care apparatus.
The USPS loses more and more money every year, at a higher and higher cost for the same service......The TSA cannot even stay awake long enough to do its job of keeping US air travel safe. More and more stupid regulations implemented, not for additional safety nor in response to a specific threat, but rather to make up for the shortcomings of the TSA personnel.
Remember this when you cannot get care because the Big Government Health Care clerk (transferred from the TSA, and probably cohabitating with a USPS mail sorter) decides you really don't need that heart operation this week.....
We all know that a job created by a government bureaucracy attracts only the best and brightest folks, with the highest work ethic....
I just can't wait for Health care.....Really, The TSA makes me feel so safe with it's "Kabuki Security Theater" ever changing and poorly thought out rules, and I am so inspired by the thought of such behavior in my Health Care masters.

Not just a bunch of happy go lucky hard drinkers
Seems that the Aussie government is getting SERIOUS with the folks who are against the government screwing with a farmer. Crushing of dissent and all that. Watch what happens. I would not put such tactics past our own dearly loved Jack Booted Thugs government officials.
Remember, this is a peaceful protest, planned in support of a farmer whose hunger strike is in protest of a government whose policies have resulted in a situation where his land has been essentially taken away from him with no compensation and no recourse.
The Aussie government is beginning to notice the protesters, judging by their tactics.
Perhaps they are getting scared.
How soon 'til these tactics are used against the Tea Party protesters? How soon until they decide to get serious about squelching protests?
Stay tuned. Seems that when one government does it, the rest soon follow...

Personally, I'd like to see what happens when (if) the public finds out how much of our money has been spent to bribe senators buy votes.

What, other than the incremental step forward for socialism, do the democrats get out of passage of this bill? Fully 1/3 will lose their comfortable positions in congress or the house. The DNC loses its majority, perhaps for many years.
What do they get? Other than advancing the cause of socialism forward.

The upshot is that the cop pulled a gun after being hit with SNOWBALLS. Had I tried that, I'd have been hit with several charges: Displaying a weapon, intimidation, using a weapon in a threatening manner,Threatening deadly force...etc. Probably lost my carry permit as well (and as it should be).
Displaying a weapon should only be done when there is a need for the use of deadly force. Not as a threat.
The cop in question "detective Baylor" should not be allowed to possess a weapon, nor should he be in the position to protect the public nor make decisions affecting the public.
There is no (zero, none, nada, zilch,) reason for this behavior.
And the shame is that (so far) he has gotten away with it. And he is supposed to "protect and serve".
Look, Cops are human. But this is beyond bad judgement.
And they should be held to standards at least as stringent as the rest of us.
Cops should police their own.
No blue wall.
As I said, had this been any of us, we'd likely be in jail, for sure have had our weapon confiscated (even in a carry state) and likely be looking at having our ccl revoked.

"The president said that the costs of Medicare and Medicaid are on an "unsustainable" trajectory and if there is no action taken to bring them down, "the federal government will go bankrupt.""
But if we reatly expand the government run systems, and include everyone in the risk pool, things will get better? Yep, I believe that. See also the Post Office for ean example.....
Why should we think that a greatly expanded goverenment version of medicare will save even one thin dime????
If they can't even make medicare work, why should we believe that a greater plan encompassing everyone will do any better?
I realize that the thought of a government run health care plan makes big government liberals lose continence...The thought of having control of another 1/6th of the economy makes them salivate (so both ends become moist).
Really, they should give up. They couldn't force things through in the early days of the year, and now that "we the public" has seen the plans a bit more closely, we don't like anything that is contained therin.
and let us not forget the damage they are doing to the economy with the uncertanity that this looming bill brings to business planning....they shoud simply adjourn, and stop the debate and give up.
But the lapdogs of the DNC hve not the best interests of the people of the US uppermost in their hearts, but rather the advance of their ideology at any cost.

So someone explain to me...
Why CHINA is considered a "developing country" at the climate change talks?
I mean, seriously....It is arguably the 2nd or third in the world as far as industries....It is a nuclear (nukkular?) capable power, with the 2nd biggest army (mabee the first, I don't have latest figures).
It was able to muster up enough resources to host the latest olympics, makes it's own weapons(rather than buying them form other countries) has a space program....
So why are they listed as a third world "developing country" for the climate taxation talks in Copenhagen?

Why Britain is circling the drain
Seems that when attacked in your own home, tied up, and beaten during an attempted robbery, the best thing you should do (in Britain) is just lie there and take it.
It beats lying there in prison and taking it....
Srsly....What is Britain coming to?
This once proud nation, which literally ruled the world, which hung on with such quiet desperation against the Germans in WWII (until the US came along to save their bacon)....This country, once so strong, with stalwart citizens....Has come to THIS.
Sad. Isn't it?
Wonder what might happen to such unwanted visitors in MY home....Best not to contemplate such things...But methinks there would be no complaints post incident....

on RHPS and other (apparently) incurable afflictions

As I am currently cohabitating with someone so afflicted (RHPS, not the other, AFAIK), I can tell you that the RHPS affliction can be an issue for those of us not so afflicted.
They say that it can be cured (RHPS affliction, that is) with the proper deprogramming, and (possibly) electroshock therapy....But I am not sure.

Before any precipitate action is taken, we must have solid observational data demonstrating that recent changes in climate differ substantially from changes observed in the past and are well in excess of normal variations caused by solar cycles, ocean currents, changes in the Earth's orbital parameters and other natural phenomena.
We the undersigned, being qualified in climate-related scientific disciplines, challenge the UNFCCC and supporters of the United Nations Climate Change Conference to produce convincing OBSERVATIONAL EVIDENCE for their claims of dangerous human-caused global warming and other changes in climate. Projections of possible future scenarios from unproven computer models of climate are not acceptable substitutes for real world data obtained through unbiased and rigorous scientific investigation.
Specifically, we challenge supporters of the hypothesis of dangerous human-caused climate change to demonstrate that:
1.Variations in global climate in the last hundred years are significantly outside the natural range experienced in previous centuries;
2.Humanity’s emissions of carbon dioxide and other ‘greenhouse gases’ (GHG) are having a dangerous impact on global climate;

So in light of all the private planes, limos, etc used by the so called Climate Specialists (or world domination asshole flunkies....take your choice), one might wonder how they justify their behavior...
I mean, how many attendees plane-pooled (like carpooling, only faster and at a higher altitude), Limo Pooled (like plane pooling, only at a slower speed and a lower altitude but with more and more convenient stops), or made any attempt to lower their massive contribution to the Global Warming causing carbon emissions.
Really, if they actually believe that, then they would live the word....walk the talk....
But they don't.
When the Global warming folks pledge to never attend a conference like this again.....But rather use videoconferencing....When they stop flying in private aircraft.....When they carpool....when they stop heating their houses with carbon based fuels (or use electricity generated using carbon based fuels)....When they begin to bicycle to work and only buy food grown locally.....
Until then, I will be a sceptic. Until then, I will not believe the dire warnings....I will not believe in any global warming caused by man, nor the so called danger we and the world are in because of it.
When these people live as they suggest we do, then I will begin to think about deciding to believe....
But I always figured these sorts of gatherings are for them to preen in the light of their "Peer reviewed" reports, congratulate each other in a circle jerk of adulation....and, of course, eat free hor'dourves and caviar and (because it is Copenhagen) aquavit by the glass....All on someone else's dime...

The output of a small country
Or, actually, a not too terribly small country.
The carbon output of MOROCCO for an entire year (2006)....Now, I know that Morocco is not the most industrialized, nor the largest, nor the most populated country in the world, but still....
40,584 tons of carbon generated for this one month of "conferences".
If they really believed that mankind was a part of the problem, then, like Bali before, they'd not fly in, but would rather watch the presentations via videoconferencing at major cities around the world.
But they act like either:
Reducing emissions is for the little people, not them,
or
They really don't believe that AGW is an issue.
Set an example, and all that.

It must be a really thankless job.
No one is ever satisfied, especially the Congressional Black Caucus.
Seems that they expected Mr. Obama to give yet more goodies and freebies and handouts to the nations poor downtrodden and ignored African-Americans. Like they don't get enough already. Seems that the CBC wants even more.

Seems that Al the Gore has CANCELLED his appearance at Copenhagen...
Perhaps his busy social schedule leaves no room for such an important meeting as this? I mean, discussion of how to limit CO2 to save the planet from suddenly overheating and all that...?

Climat Gate (more of)
Note the date on THIS article....and read the whole thing. If you are not disturbed by this, then you have the sensibilities of a head of cabbage....and most likely the intellgence and cognitave ability as well.
The men referred are experts at "climate change"....not climate science....
Their whole reason for existence is to find more funding for "climate change", not climate research......It has become a business.
Sadly, that business has influenced the whole economic structure of the free world.

Checkers Vs. Chess.....
Mr Obama wants a clean quick end to the war win Afghanistan.....So, no doubt, do we all.
But he fails to realize that our opponents in this are long term thinkers. They play chess.
Mr Obama, on the other hand, is thinking like a man used to playing checkers. He is, no doubt, a very skilled checkers player. But this sort of decision is not for those without a longer term strategy. To actually announce that 2011 is our goal (albeit with the caveat that we might have to stay longer) telegraphs to his opponent (AlQueda and others) that all they have to do is wait, and the current regime will lose heart and fail to pay attention long enough to win in the interval.
Were I on the opposite side in Afghanistan, I would take the intervening 2 (+/-) years to reorganize, re-equip, and train, saving my strength for the day when the deadline passes.....At which time, Mr Obama will be under the gun to finish things quickly. He will do nearly anything to meet that goal, even to the point of cut and run, and failure..... I would save my men and materiel for the future, and only pursue a strategy of harassment, never committing or allowing my forces to engage for any length of time, nor ever take risks that might lead to any real defeat or damage to my forces.
Our opponents understand that this will be a long war, and grueling one, and now they know that there will be a point at which the "Great Satan" will decide to leave, job finished or not, leaving the people of Afghanistan to their own devices. Thus leaving a void which they can fill at their leisure.
Make no mistake, I am not sure that we can win in such a place. The people and their culture is foreign to our way of living, and even, perhaps to our understanding. It may be that creating a stable democratic style government is impossible with the afghans at this time. It may be that there needs to be 2 countries rather than on Afghanistan...
Whatever the outcome, it is certain that the Bush Administrations failure to find and neuter Osama Bin Laden was indeed, a failure. After that, the war in Afghanistan became, in my opinion, a waste of men and materiel. Having said that, if we do not prune away the vines of evil continuously in areas such as Afghanistan, they will regrow, and strangle the countries and the people in that region, and regain strength and marshall their forces to strike the western wold once again. Bush (W) knew that, and warned the American people that this would be a long war.

Mr Obama told the foes of the US, in Afghanistan, that we would leave in 2 years(more or less) and we have not the strength of will nor the fortitude to continue the fight... He essentially told them how to win.
