Scary. Glad I don't live in FLA.
But it is the pointy end of the wedge to it happening everywhere.
I guess that the copies of the Constitution don't have the fourth amendment in them in Florida....("no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause")...
They know what is best for us, and the Constitution be damned.

I got a rifle fer Christmas
Well, sorta.
It's a kit.....a "do it yerself". Midwest Chick bought it for me for Christmas!
Actually, just what I wanted.
.50 cal...... Flintlock..... Charcoal burner.
Gonna take a LOT of work polishing the metalwork....and then the roughed out stock is gonna take even more.
I figure 3 months of evenings.....
(the first 90% of the project takes 90% of the time, the last 10% takes the other 90% of the time.....)
So far, I have cleaned up all the burrs on the barrel cutouts and have polished with 600 grit and started on the 1000 grit paper....The barrel is cleaning up nicely. Og has offered to blue the metalwork when I am done, and I may take him up on that, but I may choose to brown it too. I have lots of time to think about that and decide before I am done with the deburring and polishing....Suggestions?

WTF are you doing?
It is Christmas Day. Spend time with loved ones, or be thankful.
Merry Christmas to you all.
For those of you who do not celebrate Christmas, or whatever, I won't say "Happy Holidays"....

I'd set up a Latte and Hummus shop....
and maybe sell crystals or something...
Then sit back and make a fortune for the next 729 days.
Then close 'em and retire....

And the cracks in the facade widen.
"Clinging to the Euro will only prolong the agony."
Seems that the Germans are getting tired of bailing out the more.....Socialist countries.
And when they can't control the spending of those same countries, they are getting pissed.
I give it 2 years tops until the Deutschemark is used again. And shortly after, the Euro becomes worth less than the paper upon which it is printed......
Read part two as well.
Now if we could only break some of the more socialist states here in the US away from the Dollar.......

Jesus, this is true...
If you don't believe me, spend time watching folks at a gun show. So many weekend commandos that it is laughable. And a lot of people make a lot of money selling a lot of shit to these same weekend commandos...who have no idea what to do with the stuff they just bought. But they think that they are ready.
Look: I think we all should prepare for TSHTF (to an extent), and we all should have mastered the firearms which we own. I don't practice enough ....in conditions that are not sunny, warm, and comfy. I too need to find a better, longer range. I too spend too little on ammo. Life does get in the way of my shooting.....But I do use the tools I have, and have acquired the knowledge that I have though a lot of work, and never thought I could buy skills and knowledge. I know and understand that these things require work and practice. And I really don't care what the SEALS use. Their goals and requirements are different than mine.
But seriously. THIS is what so many conversations are like. This is so true to form for so may people. They think that they can buy the skills and the knowledge. And sadly, you can't. Skills have to be learned and then kept up. Shooting skills have a shelf life if not refreshed often. Survival knowledge can't be learned from a movie. And what works on your AO may not work in mine and vice versa.
$300 to $500 for an all purpose rifle..... CQB through home defense through 1K yds shooting. All are different tasks, and each task requires a different tool to do it well. Compromise means that your tool will do nothing well. Pick the tool for the job and learn to use it.
And those people with the 1000's of lbs of supplies for the radioactive mutant slobbering zombie apocalypse.......I always ask people....how are you gonna carry all that SHTF stuff? 1000 rounds of ammo is HEAVY, and so is 90 days worth of food...and you'll need a car/truck (or mules) for that and all the rest.....
When people ask me what is the best rifle, I too suggest that they start with a .22 so that they can practice.... FIRST. Then save their money for a decent suite of rifles. Your equipment can't give you skills. Only practice can. Better equipment can make you better, but a skilled marksman can make do with lesser equipment, and he will likely be better than the newbie with zero practice and a $10k rifle. And all the money spent on a rifle (or pistol or any other tool) is wasted if you don't practice.
Seriously, watch the two videos. It's an eye opener (or should be) for many folks, and a good laugh for the rest of us. I almost spit my coffee on the keyboard.

How it's supposed to work....
Jehesus. I learned it in school, and later, saw it on TV while watching cartoons.
You'd think our legislators would have at least tried to do things in the legal way, even if the outcome would have been the same....
"All bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills."
Or, we could just have them watch Schoolhouse Rock:
If a bill is passed in an unconstitutional manner, do we have to abide by it's contents?

But luckily
He didn't have any nail clippers......
Otherwise they might have had an issue with him travelling.
Remember, these are the people that insist that we be searched, either electronically or via perverts.
I feel so much safer today.

How to destroy
See this article found via instapundit.
Arizona and (perhaps)Texas is next. Then things will move north, perhaps bypassing northern Kalifornia but definitely coming to Oregon.
It may be that the liberals are killing everything they touch.

Bye-Bye
Maybe we will see this again, a-la Start Trek (TMP).
Either way it is cool that a man-made object is leaving the solar system.
10.8 billion miles. A long way.
And a tribute to those who built the machine 33 years ago.

SNOW and people
So I have spent the past 24 hours in the presence of people who were stranded by the snow in NW Indiana.
Couple of observatons:
Pay attention to the weather along your route: A significant number of people were stranded because they had NO IDEA that there was to be any significant weather action for the duration of their trip.
Have equipment adequate to the task: Bald tires in winter are a BAD IDEA. So are worn out wipers, failed defrost fans, non working lights, etc.
Wear or carry appropriate clothing for the weather you can reasonably expect. Shoes, coats hats, gloves, etc. Your expected trip may be from house to car to another house, but you may have to detour from your route, and end up walking in those same office shoes, that thin coat, and REALLY need that hat to keep your ears a part of your physique.
To keep yourself from being beaten by your fellow stranded travellers, be on your best behavior around those who, like you, are stressed and out of their normal environment.
Whining might get your ass beat.
YMMV.

Will it make the wearer bulletproof?
Or resistant to Molotov type beverages?
Bet it makes 'em feel like robocop though....
'cause if not, it'll just piss of those of us in "flyover country". Might work in the east and left coast states (and Chicago), where most of the populace is disarmed, but not where I live.
YMMV, and this is, of course, only for discussion.
Lots of neat hardware (and an educational look at police attitude at the home page though.
ETA: more thoughts HERE. He beat me by three days.

we should build a wall
and just ISOLATE southern Kalifornia from the US. Maybe let Mexico have it back.
It is, after all, full of crazy, looine, stupid Idiotic FUCKING MOONBATS!
But I digress,
Really, have you ever heard of a county council acting any more stupid?
Why is it always the liberal strongholds?
Seriously.

all I had was $23.00 and I still couldn't get her...
Perhaps you should watch your kid more closely.....?
Apparently the firefighters had enough spare change (and skill with the claw?) to get the kid out.

Perspective
So today, one of the guys who drives the snowplow which cleans the parking lot for my business comes in to use the bathroom and get a cup of coffee. He's an opionated guy, and VERY liberal, so we do hae some interesting conversations sometimes.
"did ya hear that they are going to extend the "Bush Tax Cuts"? He asks.....
(my staff ducks)
"Why yes, I did" says I
"Gonna cost the government like 4 billion dollars" he says....."Where are we gonna get the money to make that up?"
"Well, first of all, it's not like the government already had the money...." I began
"Not fair!" he interjects, "those who have more should pay more!".
"Really", I replied...Cutting him off somewhat sharply.
"How many unplowed driveways did you pass on the way here?" I asked.
"I dunno," he replied "quite a few?"
"Did you plow any of them?" I asked sweetly
"No" was his reply....
"Why not?" I asked
"cause they haven't paid to have their driveways plowed" he responded.
"But you have a snowplow on YOUR truck" I said....
"Yeah, so?" was his reply
Then the light dawned.
He turned and walked out and finished the parking lot.
Why can't liberals apply logic to their own thoughts?

Competence
Seems the FAA can't keep track of375,000 airplanes. (or at least 1/3 of them). Yet they spend more money each year. Seems that we should get about 1/3 of the cash they spend on tracking private aircraft back.
I can't wait for Obamacare to show us how a government run bureaucracy can save money and be efficient.
Actually, this is a good idea, one that should have been implemented soon after 9/11. But, of course, its government..... So it requires that someone care enough to push it through the layers and layers of management to actually make it happen.
Still, it's only once every 3 years.

People who abandon animals should be beaten.
People who abandon pets in a rural area in winter should be stripped naked and left in an area miles from anywhere in winter weather to fend for themselves with no supplies.Let us see how they like it.
It is a cruel thing to abandon a domesticated animal in the wild. Crueller yet to do so in winter.
Would that the punishment could fit the offense.
When you choose to take a pet you commit to taking care of it for its lifetime.
Or don't bother.

Question:
If (and it really is just an "IF") the whole WiliLeaks kefluffle is of significant import to national security, and therefore is prosecutable for treasonous acts, are we going to go after the New York Times, the LA times, etc for the same deeds? They too have published classified information leaked by others, in violation of national security protocols.
Why is there no demand to punish the editors, owners, and board of those newspapers?
Not that I would object if they were stood up against a wall and shot for treason.

Dec. 7th
Pearl Harbor Day:
Yeah, yeah...."A day which will live in infamy" and all that. Yer gonna hear that a lot today.
You are probably thinking..."who cares?"
I care. I care because that day (well before I was born) brought out the best in our culture (and, sadly, some of the worst). But that day, and the events which unfolded then, brought to the top the best of the American Spirit. People grew angry at the "sneak attack" and wanted to defend their country. Lines formed in the days afterwards at recruitment centers. young men sure....to be expected. Older men too though.
In the days and months afterwards, people sacrificed to help the war effort. PEOPLE CARED.
And they cared for years.
Today, we have those who felt real patriotic, and cared after 9-11.
For about 6 months.....
if that.
Then they forgot.
Perhaps longer in the midwest, less in the east and left coast. But overall, many forgot.
Not so with the happenings on Dec 7th and the time afterward.
Would that we could muster the drive, determination, and anger that was generated then.
But we can't.
And that is sad.
I will think about those people than, and then about our citizens today.
And I find us to be lacking.
What would those folks think about us today?
We can be proud of their actions now. Would they be proud of our citizens today?

How it should happen:
Seems that the FBI had an informant in a mosque.......He was SO radical, and so "Jihad" oriented that the attendees of the mosque informed the FBI about him....The FBI informant (provocateur).
This is the way things should go. And I am glad to see it. More of this would be a Good Thing.
For too long, the Muslim community has been inclined to protect Muslims first, and worry about things like law and order second. Obviously (at least in this case) things have changed. If enough of this sort of thing happen often enough, the muslims will effectively weed out their bad members (and the FBI informants) and gain legitimacy in the eyes of non-muslim US citizens.
One would hope that this continues, FBI informant or not.

Coincidence?
One might wonder.....
Poking the bear DOES have consequences.
And he has poked the bear, many times. Quite hard too.
One wonders what other charges may appear if he continues his on his path.

Can you argue
With anything in THIS?
I can't. While I admit it is a bit over the top. I cannot complain about anything in the article.
And I find that disturbing.
