A liberal blog gets it,

Finally.

My grandfather blamed the decline of the civilization of the US on Social Programs...Welfare and such. He claimed it destroyed families and culture, especially black culture, because the majority(then) of the recipients were black. Seeing what "blue" areas are becoming, I have to say that he was smarter than I gave him credit for then.

My 5 (five)

Robb asks the question. And it is a good one. I have a large list, and hadda do some real cogitating to pick my top 5. It would be easier to do a top 50.

In no particular order, here they are:

1. A Sharps (or well made copy) in 45-90. While I don't often have access to a range where this rifle could shine, I'd like one. 45-90 because, in a pinch, I can use 45-70 in the longer chamber. Sharps because....Well, it is a Sharps. I know that there are more modern cartridges out there, whose long range trajectory doesn't resemble a rainbow, which carry more energy downrange, and are all around better for the job of long range shooting/sniping/hunting. I don't care. I want one.

2. A big double rifle. Something like this, or this...or maybe this.  In .470 NE. 26" barrel. Regulated to 100 yds. maybe with a second leaf for 200.  Just because. Unless you want to pool yer spare change and buy me these.

3. A Singer 1911. This one. I'd knock down Mother Theresa carrying 2 undernourished children to the doctor to get my hands on this.  And step on her too.

4. A grease gun .  If you need to ask why, then you need some serious re-education. Or you are stupid. Or maybe need your meds adjusted. Ideally with the 9mm conversion kit so I have a choice of what kind of money to turn into smoke and noise....

5. And last, but certainly not least (remember, no particular order) a Mauser (pistol)... specifically a Shaxi type 17 Broomhandle. Just because I want one. Besides, it was the basis for Han's gun which he used to shoot Greedo. And I like Han.

Now all I have to do is win several lotteries. And invent something that everyone wants to buy. Then I can begin the collection.

I wish

that I could find out the name of the man who designed that piece of equipment

In order that I could track him down and either kick him in the balls or piss on his grave.

Either would work for me after spending 3 hours struggling to replace a belt..
I donated several square inches of skin and about a half pint of blood, all because someone did a piss poor job of engineering.

Above the law?

Since the "won" failed to show at the Georgia court hearing regarding his eligiblity to be President of these United States, He is, best case, in contempt of the court.

And since his attorney didn't show, one would think that he considers himself above the law....(no surprise there)

2 things:

You haven't seen any of this on any mainstream media, and it is doubtful that you will...

And will this tactic of ignoring the issue work again? Will we let it?

I really don't know if he is or is not an eligible citizen. But the farther this goes, the more I wonder what he is hiding?

Trying again

The folks in Washington are trying again to gain control of the Interenet.

Watch carefully.

Expect to act.

life

On Venus?

I highly doubt it, but it would be interesting.
But 800+ degrees F? nearly 100 times the pressure?

We do have life which exists in similar conditions here on earth, so it is possible.

If they are intelligent though, they'll likely want to stay away from us.

Women (true)

Stolen from a forum I check out periodically:

God promised men that good and obedient women would be found in all corners of the world.

And then He made the earth round.

Light

Between the message the O pushes, and the Republican response to it, I no longer see a light at the end of the tunnel, I see an oncoming train (wreck)

There was nothing that I heard that inspired hope. Nothing.

If Obama gets re-elected, we are fucked.

And if Mitch Daniels' message represents the republican party, then there is only despair.

Methinks that someone missed a chance when all of our government officials were all together under one roof...

win

We got the stuff we won from the soldiers angels fundraiser.

Thanks for all your hard work Linoge.
Seems that Government Motors CANT GIVE THE VOLT AWAY.

Apparently they can't sell them, unlike other "normal" cars.

Dealers don't want 'em, for whatever reason.

Yet, strangely, the Japanese and Ford hybrids leap off the lot.

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to yew

Today was the day the gods gifted us with the genius that was John M.Browning.

I own several examples of his genius.

Is he above the law?

Or is he subject to the same rules, regulations, and judicial orders that the rest of us are?

We shall soon see.

This should be interesting.

Missed it

I meant to post this yesterday.

On Jan 20th, 1942, the decision was finalized to completely eradicate an entire people from Europe.

Himmler and Hitler, and many others, at the Wansee Conference in Berlin, chaired by Richard Heydrich, finalized the plans for the Final Solution.

Something that we should remember....Much evil lurks in the hearts of some men.

If we forget, it can (and will) happen again.

(Note, it is being attempted in several places in Africa, just in a much less organized or industrial way.)

Socialism

Who determines how much profit a company can make?

Apparently, people who think that they know more than the rest of us.

Socialists, all of them. They think that they can decide how much profit is too much.
Soon, they'll be telling you how much salary you can make. And these things will be decided by a board of people accountable to no one. People that they decide should make those decisions.

And, lets not forget that, likely, you own bits and pieces of those companies they are going to limit the profits on....if not directly through your portfolio, then through your 401K and other retirement investments.

Look: I'd like to see gas prices drop, and I'd like to return to the days when I could fill up my tank for less than a Franklin. I'd like to return to the days of muscle cars. I'd like to go back to when $5.00 could let me cruise the strip for all night with my friends.

But to limit the profit that these companies make, to pass legislation where a select group of unelected "experts" decides what is enough profit for any single corporation is madness. It places too much power in the hands of people who have no right to determine the earnings of a company. It leads to a very steep and slippery slope, wherein each of us must ask politely for a decent return on our investment, be it time, labor, or dollars. Who will be next? Farmers? Stores? Factories? Why should anyone invest in anything if there is no incentive to do so? When there is no reward?

The actual amount of profit that the oil companies, the shippers, distributors, and retail outlets (individuals, all) makes on a gallon of gas is less than the taxes that the feds and the state steal from charge you. The rate of return is minuscule per gallon.

In another time, Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) and his co conspirators would have been branded "red" and hounded out of the government. Or horsewhipped for admitting that he even thought about such legislation.

How do even let these people into government?
Y'know, sometimes people are stupid. Sometimes they are led/influenced by stupid people. Like the news media.

We have had, here in the greater Chicago metro area, a fairly mild winter so far. For most of November and nearly all of December, we were above freezing and had very little precipitation fall as snow.

The past few days have been somewhat cold, reaching (gasp!) single digit temps. (really unusual for JANU!ARY). Today, warmer air is flowing up from the south, leading to a predicted 8" of snow possible for some parts of the are in the next 24 hours.

People are panicking. People are cancelling travel plans. Some schools are closing, with cold and snow as the reason.

Over 8" of snow.
In a 24 hour period.
In the midwest.
In January.

What weak sisters we have living here.

Yep

Santorum did win the Iowa caucus.

But the GOP really only cares about their chosen boy, Mittens.

Santorum isn't the chosen one. They lied. You don't think that this had an effect going into New Hampshire?

Romney is getting the support of the GOP national folks. And he's gonna lose to Obama.

Betcha

Well, did you call 'em?

Did you even bother to call and explain why SOPA/PIPA, etc is a bad idea? Did you read anything that was posted on the 18th??

Or did you just go forward with your life?

Watch this video, might help. Take 4 minutes to learn.

PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet from Fight for the Future on Vimeo.

(h/t walls of the city)

It is important. These bills can be used to (and likely will be) shut down blogs which are not approved by your government. Or any larger group who wishes to claim any copytight infringement. No notice, no chance to take down any material which might be an issue.  Just shut the website down.
Guess who gets to make that choice? The government. Do you think that is a good idea?

Many of us, some big, some small, chose to use today as a protest. As a day to (hopefully) educate and motivate the rest of you to take some action by cutting off the "free ice cream"

Or not.

I was impressed by Wikipedia somewhat less by Google, not so much by Drudge and Instapundit.
I guess income trumps taking a stand. Even though taking a stand might well save your income.

Cop, or soldier?

It can be HARD TO TELL.

Via JennifersHead.

Can you do any better?

THe sad fact is that it is harder and harder to tell. Cops are no longer "peace officers".

Sadly, other than militarized, I am not sure what they are. Some of them are good police officers. Others are something else.

But if you can't tell the difference in these photos, then you (and we) have problems.

Class

Midwest Chick and I spend a fair bit of time shopping this weekend. some high end stores, some low end stores, and most somewhere in between.

While I am all for saving a buck or two, I noticed something:

Wal-Mart and Menards had much less well behaved customers. Same with the cheaper grocery stores.

The stores that were one step higher in price had a much better class of people shopping there. By better class, I mean behavior wise. Same town, same demographic (or so it appeared), but a much higher level of social interaction quality.

Quite simply, they behaved better. More like people and less like animals.

It may well be worth it for me to pay the slightly higher prices and shop where the lowest common denominator doesn't.

It'll be good for my blood pressure

No amount is too little

When it comes to the NRC and low doses of radiation.

They are even checking imported tissue holders.

They caution us to be careful sitting near them, as we might get the equivalent of 2 x-rays a day...

Yet there is no check on the scanners that they use in airports at all. Nor on the dosages the TSA personnel get while working.

Interesting, ain't it?

Content of their character

While I think that the day commemorating his birthday (MLK day) should be on his birthday, not a movable one so that federal and state workers get a 3 day weekend **, the think I want to talk about is this:

What would MLK say about the state of the black culture and the black population today?

What would he think of the fact that more than half of the black population is living off of government handouts?

Of the fact that more than half of the children raised today have no father figure?

What would he think and say about the "Black" leaders today, and what their policies have done to blacks in the US?

Would he think that the black leaders today have destroyed his "dream"? (you can watch it HERE if you wish)

His message was good then. And it is good now. I was raised to believe in what he preached in that speech.

I think he'd be disgusted by what has become of our society in general, and the black society in particular.

**(I mean, seriously, is the reason for the holiday to commemorate the birth of a hero, or who did something impressive.... or to create another day when federal and state "workers" don't even have to pretend to work in order to collect a paycheck?)

it ain't like the movies.....

Car crashes, vehicular assault, and ramming others off the road. Movies are one thing, real life something else.

Those scenes are done under very specific conditions, with professionals piloting (generally) modified cars/trucks.

As these homeboys found out Saturday night.

Laws of physics and all that. But I guess you have to go to high school to learn that those laws cannot be broken....not spend your time selling drugs on a street corner.

Darwin is always watching and waiting. He was there when these boys learned things last night.

Via SCC.

Carry it with you...

So the young man is learning how to live in the wilderness...mentored by the old coot:

"What do I do if I meet a grizzly bear in the woods?" The tenderfoot asks

"Stand your ground. If you run, you'll only die tired and bleeding....Stand tall and look him in the eye."

"And if that doesn't work?"  The young man persists

"Throw shit in his face as he charges"

"where am I gonna get shit?" the young man wonders

"It'll be there when you need it, son"

You thought I was kidding you

about the Powers That Be watching and listening.

I wasn't.
While no one wants to see children with firearms.....:

Think about this:
The kid did a Tweet...About a gun
and Twitter's software alerted someone @Twitter...Who reviewed the message (and blocked it)
And called the school/police.

Big Brother IS watching you...

Text, Email, etc are just as easy to monitor.
Likely voice as well. Maybe your pictures too...The implications of this can be huge.

Be careful what you email, text and say on any phone. You never know who might be listening/watching.

Srsly.

Oh, and just to keep the Echelon (or Carnivore, or whatever) system well fed:

Thermonuclear
Jihad
guns
Biohazard
AMFO
drugs
explode

etc...

Yeah

Probably not real, but I like it.

Missing the whole point

Seems the Courtney doesn't understand why everyone is laughing at her...and thinks she is a loser....and a nanny stater. Did I mention that her actions make me think she is a loser?

And it makes her feel bad and she might cry.

Her name, just so she can find it via Google, is Courtney Fletcher, 23, of Mt. Lebanon.

Feel free to laugh when reading the comments.

I'd like to thank the Academy...

I won a book!

Toldya that you should have entered the Soldiers Angels giveaway!
Could have been you.

Instead it is me...and a whole list of others.

You'd think

That folks wouldn't be such assholes with the first snowstorm of the season.

Yet they whine about it. Even though we have been extremely lucky to have had such a warm winter.

They still drive like idiots. (Darwin was very lenient today, IMO) You'd have thought it was really bad or icy or something, not just a few inches of snow. Good thing that I don't have a 2 MW laser attached to the front of the truck, or I'd have added to the carnage.

And, of course, apparently everyone is making french toast tonight. There are no eggs, milk, or bread available anywhere.(we bought our supplies yesterday)

Sometimes I hate people. Today is one of those times.

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

There is still time!

You can still get in the game!

The (slightly delayed) Soldiers Angels giveaway is still on!

If you haven't donated yet, then please do so. It's not the winning of the prizes, it's the giving. The prizes are just bonuses!

Quit whining

Another fool busted for carrying where it is illegal. (link via Uncle)

I am tired of hearing how sad it is that all these folks who go to New York from other states carrying firearms (generally handguns) are getting the shaft by the authorities in New York.

If you carry firearms illegally when "visiting" that state, you are subject to the laws of that state. Period.

Don't like it? Choose another destination. I seldom visit Mordor because I dislike the carry laws in place there. I cannot legally carry there, and am not willing to lose my firearm nor be charged with a crime if caught doing so. When I am forced to do travel there, I am careful to disarm both my person and my car/truck. I spend as little time (and money) there as possible.

It is incumbent on you, the firearm owner, to learn the laws of the areas to which you will be travelling and to act accordingly.
These laws are in place, kept there by the legally elected "representatives of the citizens" who reside in the states.

I don't like the dance we must do to be legal, and I choose where I will travel, shop and spend my tourist budget accordingly. But the fact remains that you are responsible for learning the laws of the areas to which you will be travelling. Would you feel as sorry for these people if they had been busted in Canada? England?
Just because you can drive to New York and never pass a border checkpoint or other feature that shows you have changed jurisdictions is no excuse.

I am sorry for these people, but they chose to break the laws, even if in ignorance, and they are subject to the appropriate penalties. As gun owners/CHL holders, we need to be aware of the laws in other jurisdictions.

If they broke the law because they didn't think that they'd get caught, or because they just didn't believe in it, does that make them any better philosophically than someone who liked drugs or child porn? They are illegal too. There are those who see no harm in heroin or kiddie porn, just like many of us see no harm in firearms. ("not the same" you cry! Depends on your point of view, doesn't it?) The laws of the state which you are visiting must be respected. If you choose not to do so, then be prepared to pay the penalty for not doing so. If you don't like the laws, choose to visit elsewhere. No one forces you to visit somewhere where you don't like the laws. YOU CHOOSE TO GO WHERE THESE LAWS ARE IN FORCE. And you can choose not go as well. You can also choose to flaunt these laws, but there are consequences if you do. Part of the decisions we make every day...risk vs reward.

And don't expect me to feel sorry for you if you get caught.

What do we call

Negros who live in Canada?

African Canadians?

Does this include the State too?

Resist.

I agree with everything in the linked article.

Generally, we lose nothing by resisting. Worst case, we lose no more than we would have by acquiescing.

So should we resist the State and it's minions as well?

I think so.

Where do we draw the line?

Range day

Spent about half a day teaching someone the basics of reloading...He loaded 200 rounds of 9mm on the Dillon 550....and then we spent another hour or so at the range turning those same rounds into smoke, noise and holes in paper.

Man, that felt GOOD!

I expect that he will begin reloading as soon as he decides on a press, and that will significantly up his round count shortly thereafter.

We found that his GLOCK was happy with 4.0 grains of 231 pushing a 115g JHP. (light loads, but they worked well for the range) Next time I think we'll up it to 4.2 grains because he had 2 FTLB.

It's hard to beat a few hours making your own ammo and then burning it up.

INteresting

If true, then it does show that the GOP is in the tank for Mittens...Not that that should be any surprise for any of us.

I don't know who I am going to support....But I am sure it won't be Obama Lite Mittens Romney, he of Obamacare (beta), who is conservative only in Massachusetts and other liberal states.

Just in case

you didn't see this on Borepatch:

And even if you did see it there, it is worth seeing again.

How do we stop this? How does this end in any way but tragedy and/or revolution and violence?

Not quite as hi-tech, but still cool.

Can you imagine the liability if this was sold today?

I do, however, want to build one.

Shoulda happened in 2008

But at least it is happening NOW.

Someone is questioning the eligibility of the WON to hold office in 2012. And this time a judge is gonna let them hold his feet to the fire. I foresee a constitutional crisis.

Maybe it is too late for the last election, but we are getting an early start on this one upcoming.

I'm still not gonna vote for Mittens though.

What do we do?

Not what you think I might be talking about.

another thing you need ID for, but still no ID to vote.

How to split wood the easy way

 No sweat.

Of course, no cardiovascular exercise either....

Getting a job must be an "undue burden" for the poor and people of color

or something like that....

One from list "A"or one from list "B" and one from list"C".

Link HERE for the original PDF

That 's what it takes to get a job. You have to show proof of identity (and meet other employment requirements, but we are talking today about the requirements of the DHS ), so that your SSN can be used to properly charge you a tithe percentage  of your earnings to pay forward the obligations of the gubmint on debts incurred in the past, and to provide freebies handouts benefits to the lazy freeloaders deserving poor and illegals.

Yet to show enough ID to prove who you are when you cast your ballot for your masters leaders who will make decisions regarding your lifestyle and freedom and economic status for the next election cycle is an undue burden...So does this mean that to be employed is burden for these folks? I know a lot of folks who are African-American who are gainfully employed and middle class who were somehow able to overcome the undue burden of providing ID for their I-9 so they could pay taxes earn a living. I really don't see how providing this proof of identity in order to be employed caused them a hardship.

Or it could be a blatant cover by the DNC and Eric Holder to hide the continued voter fraud perpetrated by the DNC and its {ACORN!} operatives. Some of which are funded by those same taxpayers.

Look: You need an ID to buy medicine, get on an airplane, write a check, get a bank account, enter many county and state and federal offices, cross the border into the us (legally), and generally to do almost anything except (according to the Brady Bunch) buy a gun.....

What I don't understand is why, if the states wish to implement a Voter ID law, they just don't simply copy the Indiana law, which has been upheld by the Supremes as valid and Constitutional.

Either way, these (proposed) laws will end up in court, where they will likely be upheld. This is, at best, a delaying action by the left. One which, when they ultimately lose, will give us a slightly fairer election.

Will this stop all fraud? Nope. Places like Chicago and Philadelphia will still lo"lose" votes in Red precincts. Electronic vote counters will still be vulnerable to hacking and fraud; election judges and vote counters will still be human, with all their frailties.

But it is a step. The fact that some states are implementing such laws, despite the vehement objections tells us two things: That everyone is aware of the statistically significant amount of fraudulent ballots, and that something must be done to make our elections fair. This step, in defiance of the left, and the president's lapdog AG, Holder, is a smack in the face of the DNC. I fail to see how this turns out badly for the people. Fairer elections give us back the possibility of control of our destiny. Whether we can do anything useful with that control remains to be seen.
