Betcha that we don't see a budget cut.....

To correspond to the service cuts the US Postal Service has proposed.

Since they are cutting 1/6 of their service, can we expect to see 1/6 of the managerial jobs cut as well? How about a salary reduction for the rest of the workers since they will be doing 1/6 less work?

Perhaps 1/6 less benefits or 1/6 less retirement funding? Are they gonna cut the cost of postage by 1/6?

Didn't think so.

Ther was once a time when working for the Postal service, much like other federal civil service jobs, meant low pay, but excellent benefits, and a kick ass retirement after your 20 years was up. Now they get higher pay than an equivalent private employee AND kick ass bennies AND kick ass retirement. If the feds can't make the postal service work, what makes you think that they can make Health Care work?

If I am not gonna get my mail on Saturdays (really not that big of a deal anyway, as most of my mail is junk mail and bills) then I wanna see some savings for my service cut.

Seems that the more handguns carried by citizens, the fewer firearms deaths happen.  You gotta get to page 3 to find the statistics, but they are there.

"In the 1980s and ’90s, as the concealed-carry movement gained steam, Americans were killed by others with guns at the rate of about 5.66 per 100,000 population. In this decade, the rate has fallen to just over 4.07 per 100,000, a 28 percent drop. The decline follows a fivefold increase in the number of “shall-issue” and unrestricted concealed-carry states from 1986 to 2006.
The highest gun homicide rate is in Washington, D.C., which has had the nation’s strictest gun-control laws for years and bans concealed carry: 20.50 deaths per 100,000 population, five times the general rate. The lowest rate, 1.12, is in Utah, which has such a liberal concealed weapons policy that most American adults can get a permit to carry a gun in Utah without even visiting the state.
The decline in gun homicides also comes as U.S. firearm sales are skyrocketing, according to federal background checks that are required for most gun sales. After holding stable at 8.5 to 9 million checks from 1999 to 2005, the FBI reported a surge to 10 million in 2006, 11 million in 2007, nearly 13 million in 2008 and more than 14 million last year, a 55 percent increase in just four years"

Note the highest deaths per 100K are in areas with the most restrictive handgun bans. (All law abiding citizens are therefore prey to those who are less than law abiding in those areas).

While correlation is not causation, there does seem to be an emerging pattern. 

But you knew that already, didn't you? 

Perhaps there are a few real, honest journalists at MSNBC. I must say that I am surprised.

Seems the Large Hadron Collider is gonna do the thing that they were supposed to do before they had those breakdowns.....Supposedly gonna cause some kind of quantum black hole issues which could spell (OMG!OMG!) the end of the world as we know it or something like that..

The good news is that this will solve the Deficit Spending issue for the US, and at least we won't have to deal with the issue of Socialized Medicine anymore...

An excellent! weekend

Taught a firearms class this Saturday (6 new safe (I hope) shooters), then spent Sunday morning at the range as well, this time for me.

200 rounds of .45 ACP through my 1911 Para, and 50 though my 3" carry gun.

Plus .22 in large quantity though my Buckmark.

Not  a bad way to do a weekend.

(As far as anyone can prove, all of the targets were volunteers)

To all those who say that a civil war would be wrong....Think about what our founding fathers thought. Are we men such as they? or are we sheep?

Earth Hour

So, Saturday,  people all over the world had an opportunity to feel good about themselves if they chose to participate in Earth Hour. For one hour some cities and individuals turned off some of their lights.

Big Fucking Deal.

It's not like this is anything more than symbolic. Wanna do something for the environment? You can. But you have to change your lifestyle, and not for one hour. It matters little if you believe in AGW or not, if you change your lifestyle, you can save money and reduce your carbon footprint. Turn off lights, use higher efficiency lighting, turn down your thermostat in winter and up in summer (programmable thermostats can be  had for as little as $20)

The thing is, you have to be MORE than just symbolic, or you are fooling yourselves. One hour out of 8766 (hours per year)  of reduced energy consumption is a nice gesture, but really it is meaningless.

Wanna do something that matters? Turn off every other (or even 2 out of three) streetlights in your town. Turn your thermostat up by 4 degrees on the summer and down by 4 degrees in winter. There are other things you can do...

Never happen. Most people will not sacrifice their feeling of security or their comfort.

So we are stuck with symbolic bullshit like "Earth Hour".

'cause if everyone threw a brick through a window of the traitors who voted against the will of the people, then perhaps the message might become a bit clearer to those folks....

Are you willing to go to jail for this sort of civil disobedience? I am beginning to think that I might be. It could be that since passive protest did not seem to work, that property damage without personal violence might......(I would, of course, only break the portion of the window that my tax dollars paid for, the other part of the windows I will leave alone).

It is a better alternative to real violence, or true armed revolution. And it would, of course, be a lesson to those who we elect to represent us when we vote the incumbent traitors out on November.

I'm just sayin'.

Perhaps the time will come when each of us must make a decision as to whether the country is a capitalist country, or a socialist diktatorship.

We all know where the folks that voted for the Health Care debacle stand.

The dragon awakes

A lady who has worked for me for 12 years, never ever caring to discuss politics or to even comment on any legislative subject, today asked me how to get in touch with her senators and congressmen, as she is finally aware that inaction leads to being led to slaughter.....all over the health care debacle....

"WTH do they think they are doing here? I never thought they'd really pass this. How can they?"

Alas, too little and too late....But she has been awakened and is angry....and now she will do something rather than doing nothing. Look for her and her sisters at the Tax Day Tea Parties, and other protests....expect her and others like her to volunteer for any candidate opposing the incumbents (at least hose who voted "yes" in the house and senate)....and until now, these same folks would have not done anything.

But no more. They are awake, and they are angry.

Random thought:

It is a good thing for our sentors and congressmen that most (if not all) states have outlawed dueling.

Else their seconds would be busy the next few days.

I'm just sayin'.

Health care...semi-random thoughts..

Let us hope that this new legilation is not the beginning of the end, but rather the end of the beginning.

While none of us are likely happy that this legislation has passed, the fact is that it is no surprise. Had it failed this time, they would have kept trying...

But this shall no doubt mark the day where many people decided to remove their representative or congressperson....via the ballot box, I hope.

We shall see how this runs out in the end.

Let us hope that this does not bog the legislative branch down in order that they can do something to help the economy  now that they have their bill.

I'm not willing to start that demonstration of my disgust (only because they aren't worth going to prison over), but I would heartily endorse it should it happen.

Mr. Obama, Ms. Pelosi, and Mr. Reid:

While I realize that for you, a liberal socialist democrat type of person, the Holy Grail of Socialized Health Care is a very tempting thing. I respect your drive, your commitment, and your effort, even though I disagree with your intended result. And, while you feel that it deserves a great deal of your attention (and has, in fact, precluded nearly everything else for a year), you must to accept the results of the looming vote. Should it be a vote for your wishes, then so be it. But should it be a vote against your wishes, and a vote that reflects the desires of nearly 3/4 of the citizens (and something like 90% of the TAXPAYING citizens) then you need to get on with your job of running the country. The looming health care debacle has done more to damage the economic recovery than anything else that might have hindered it, as most businesses await a more certain future. They dislike not knowing what their future costs might be, and how your misguided legislation might affect their markets and the future economic health of the country.


Forget the fact that you have cheated, lied, used unusual rules outside of their original intent, bribed senators with taxpayer money, misrepresented the costs of your program, and hidden many of the negative things about this program. Forget the fact that this is not only unpopular with conservative folks such as myself, but with many of those who lean a bit farther left than I . Forget the fact that because of this legislation it is entirely possible that you may well lose both houses in the upcoming election, and that your legislation on this matter is contrary to the wishes of a majority of its citizens.

For over a year you have schemed, plotted, arm twisted, and bribed. You have done everything you can to ram this unpopular mess down our throats. Again: I know this is important to you, above all else, in the advancement of socialism liberalism. I respect your determination and persistence. But, please, if you lose (and I hope that you do indeed fail in your endeavor), give up, at least for a while, and spend some time leading this country. We have millions out of work, small businesses such as mine struggling, and a stagnant economy. While not all of this can be laid at your feet, the fact that you have spent nearly all your time doing whatever you can to make your dream of socialism Health Care happen has been to the detriment of this country and its economy and its citizens. You have not spent nearly enough time doing your job, the job that your constituents elected you to do, to lead us to a stable future, with a working, growing economy. By not making the vote on socialism Health Care happen quickly, you have created economic stagnation, further damaging our economy

So please, for the good of the country and the good of the citizens that live within it's borders, take the vote, accept it, and move on. Begin LEADING this country. Do something else besides campaign, bribe and twist the arms of our senators and congresspersons to make your socialist dream happen. Begin focusing on the things that really matter, like jobs, and stability, and economic progress. Either win this, or let it drop. Do not stretch this any farther than you already have. Do not delay the up or down vote any longer in order to give yourself more time to twist arms, find creative ways to cheat, or find more money to with which to bribe your fellows....Pick a day and vote the damned thing either up or down.  And abide by that decision.

Again: if you win, then act quickly. If you do not, then announce that there will be no further legislation on health care for at least 2 years, in order that our country can recover from this debacle, and begin regrowing the economy and you and your peers can begin rebuilding your reputations with your constituents, and we as citizens can begin to recover from your folly. To do anything else is to the detriment of the citizens of this once great nation.

If you truly love your country and wish to serve the best interests of its citizens, then do as I suggested. Anything else is not in the interests of those who elected you to be their representatives. Failure to do so is a refutation of your oath. And a disservice to those you claim to serve.

Conspiracy:

So the Socialists Democrat majority in the house is trying yet another end run around the rule of law in order to get their Holy Grail Health Care Reform passed.  Ok, I can understand this. It is imporant to them and their ideology. I get that. It is the only way they can promote Socialism equality in this country.They have chosen to work on this to the detriment of the country, ignoring our economic crisis, and the fact that their pending (but failing) legislation is even now stalling an economic recovery. They simply don't seem to care about the consequences to the country of this vaporware bill.

But in proposing to ignore the Constitution and the Senate and House rules, they are, in effect, conspiring to break the rule of law, and conspiring to break the oath that they swore when they were elected and sworn in as congressmen and representatives:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God"

Can we, therfore, arrest them for conspiracy to break their oath and for conspiring to violate the Constitution? Were I to conspire with you to rob a bank or overthrow the government, and we were found out, we could be charged with a crime, even if we never acted upon such discussions. What about the Senators, Representatives, and President who are indeed conspiring to violate the Constitutional laws by which our Congress works?

(Of course, there is the chance that the Citizens of the US will, if there is no other action, take matters into their own hands. )

Seriously though....Why can these folks in the ruling class legislative branch be charged with such a conspiracy. It is reported by many news agencies and in their own words.

(I, personally, think we should charge them with treason....YMMV)

what a waste of money

The census folks sent me a letter telling me that I should expect a census form soon. Unless you have been living under a rock, you should already be aware of this.

If the address is wrong, I will recieve neither letter nor census form. If it is correct then I will recieve both, so the first one is surpurflous, and a waste of money. (At 105,000,000 households at $0.50 for the letter, envelope, printing and postage, which even assuming great volume discounts and all is a fairly conservative estimate, puts us at $52.000.000 (likely three times that!) for the useless letter). FIFTY TWO MILLION DOLLARS!

But hey, it no doubt helped keep the unemployment numbers low for Barry.....

I intend to follow the Constitution when it comes to the census. I will accurately fill out the number of adults and children portion, and keep the rest private.

My race, my income, etc., are not a part of the census as mandated in the constitution. And they matter not when it comes to the allocation of government funds, nor congressional districts, or anything else that the goverment should be doing.

even the Swiss have their limits

Seems that  even the Swiss have a limit to how far they will allow liberalism to go.

And here I thought that they were just a bunch of liberals who made their living off of (somewhat) legal banking and chocolate and skiing.

Now it seems that they have a modicum of sense.

Bureaucrats

I just finished reading "In Harm's Way: The Sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis and the Extraordinary Story of Its Survivors". by Doug Stanton.


It made me angry. Very angry. It seems that the Bureaucracy of the US Navy is what killed so many sailors, by leaving them adrift for so long. The men of the USS Indianapolis thought that they were a part of a fighting force that would help them, and look for and rescue them. They thought that they were a part of a corps that would look out for them and take care of them, and care. There were so many chances for someone to notice AND THEY WERE EVEN ALERTED BY A MAYDAY RADIO MESSAGE. But no one really cared enough to check it out, or to bother to notice that they were overdue and bother to find out why. So men floated in the water for 4 DAYS and many went mad from exposure, or dehydration, and many were EATEN by sharks.

All because some folks who should have cared became too comfortable in their jobs and forgot that there was a war happening and that their jobs were to keep track of ships so that if they failed to arrive the search and rescue folks could begin looking for the crew. But nope, they couldn't be bothered by such minutiae. And because of that nearly 500 men, who had survived the sinking, died. All because some bureaucrats failed to bother to do their job, even in wartime.

What makes any of us think that in a world increasingly dominated by computers, that these same bureaucrat types will not see us as even less important when it comes to our health care? It was easy for those folks to think of the ships and their crews as just objects. It's easy enough for the folks who work for our insurance companies to think that way today. But if they get bad enough, they eventually get fired. Not so with a government employee. A civil service worker essentially has to come in drunk with a naked boy on his lap, with a dead hooker in the trunk just to be suspended. It's not like there is any incentive to be compassionate, or productive, or in any way human in a civil service job (if you think otherwise, try to pay your taxes at a state office, or get your  drivers license renewed).

It would seem that bureaucrats have been around forever, and that they are just as incompetent today as they were then, if not more so.

How many will today's bureaucrats kill? When they are in a government job where their performance doesn't decide the fate of people , but they merely soak up time and resources, that is one thing. When they are in a job where their lack of performance can cause death, or injury, or the delays that they cause can result in worsening medical conditions, then it begins to matter.

Like the Indianapolis, our citizens deserve better.

What is to keep the system from failing us, as it did so long ago to the Indianapolis?

Have a plan. Have preps. Your plans will go to shit moments afterwards, but an imperfect plan (any plan at all) is better than no plan.. You can adapt your plan.....If you have one. And someone with no plan and no preps has no options.

You can, of course, always shut your eyes, click your heels together three times and say "It can't happen to me, It can't happen to me, It can't happen to me",  But in the end without preps, you will have no choice for your self, your family, and your friends. You will have to depend on a dysfunctional government agency to survive. If they get there in time.

Or you can stand up and fend for yourself, and be free.

Just something for thought....

Post Earthquake experiences in Chile...."I had to shoot people"

Now I know, yer thinking...."But that's Chile, this is America".

Now, think New Orleans and Katrina. Still think that way? Chile is, for all intents and purposes, not that different that the US when it comes to it's people. But desperate people do desperate things...

Do you have enough Ammo? I know that I, while well stocked, really don't. Have you practiced using a firearm? If not, then the one you have, without practice and familiarity, is useless. Practice often!

And the other thing you gotta remember is that you gotta sleep sometime. Got plans? Folks you can trust? Preps?

Best to think and prepare now, rather than afterward.

(It most likely makes AlGore cry or something)

You should ask yourself why there has been nearly no coverage here is the US. Perhaps Barry O needs the Cap and Trade money to pay for his Socialized Healthcare scheme or something....
