66 years

66 years ago today, Allied soldiers began storming the beaches at Normandy, in the quest to oust Germany from France.

Betcha few Frenchmen born after that day care very much. I doubt that many who are adults today care that nearly 10,000 soldiers were killed or wounded in order to make sure that the French didn't grow up speaking German.

Remember those who were lost.

We have a vacation in Normandy back in 1992. I was astonished by how grateful people were, even young people (20-somethings).

That was quite a while ago, and even then Normandy was the only place in France that you didn't feel like someone might spit on you, but it really stood out. Not just now, looking back, but then.
