Activist Judges

Should be disbarred when they do things like this:

Judge Denies Gunmaker’s Motion To Dismiss Sandy Hook Lawsuit.

If a judge cannot keep himself from letting his personal beliefs override the law, then they are unsuitable as judges.

And I find that judges that are appointed by liberals to do much more of that. (ETA: Yes, I know she was appointed by a "Republican" But in Conn., that means slightly more liberal than an Illinois Democrat)

At best this is a nuisance lawsuit.

One Wonders

Poor science. Very poor.

And shame on the New England Journal of Medicine.

So the CDC has "concluded" that the Zika Virus does, indeed, cause Microcephaly. (and it might)...They have terrified nearly every woman who will have children in the near future....and all potential grandmothers too, in the hope that they will get support for their funding request.

Maybe Zika DOES cause Microcephaly...... I would hope that the researchers are smarter than I am...and not political...But as we have seen in the past, that is often not the case with the CDC.

Reading the study, I notice that the CDC has apparently abandoned that wonderful thing that I was taught in school....Science and the Scientific Method. .

It does appear that there is a possible causal relationship. Microephaly happens where the Zika virus occurs...that is the extent of the relationship between Zika and microcephaly.

But that isn't the whole story.

Microcephaly DIDN'T occur (or occurred very seldom, the data is sketchy) until the affected countries began using insecticides heavily for the mosquitos IN THE WATER SUPPLIES. that people use for potable water. Specifically pyriproxyfen, which is (coincidentally enough) a growth inhibitor (causes malformations in insect larvae which result in them not growing to full term) for mosquitos and other insects (and maybe mammals). Zika has been in Africa for many years with no increase in microcephalic births...and in Columbia, where they don't use pyriproxyfen, there is no increase in microcephaly, yet the Zika virus has infected over 3000 women who gave birth there....

There is just as much of a causal relationship for the insecticide as there is for the Zika virus....More, actually, because of the timing evidence.

But the CDC and other organizations are crying for funding....specifically, they say they need $1.9 BILLION dollars to cure/find a vaccine for Zika.... (Odd that they can tell us exactly how much they need, innit? Will we get a money back guarantee? )

They won't get paid anything for research if it is the insecticide....Is there any doubt that they would claim it was the virus?

Just like the Global Warming Climate Change folks never ever ever claim that any data disproves the theory....there isn't any money in that sort of claim.....

It IS odd that the world has been studying Zika in earnest for only a few months...yet the "scientists" claim that they are SURE about the cause of the microcephaly.... I don't know,... the CDC may well be right and the small heads are caused by Zika and not the pyriproxyfen. But,once again, the politics involved, and the past history of the CDC in following the "correct" political trends in order to assure funding, makes this claim suspect. It is a disservice to the people to fail to investigate all links and clues. To fail to do proper research is a failure to serve the citizens of the US who are paying the bill, and to the people who are affected by this virus.

We all know

Or at least suspected....That the 9-11 commission report is/was classified to hide the fact that the Saudis (or at least some high level officials) were complicit in the 9-11 attacks. The only question for me was how complicit,...and how many Saudi officials? ?

Therefore, no surprises here:
Lawmakers are calling on the White House to declassify more than two dozen pages in the 9/11 Commission report that they say outlines evidence for possible support from the Saudi government for two hijackers who settled in Southern California.

IMO they are already done.

If Trump is nominated, the GOP will grow stronger and become a bigger tent.
If Trump is denied after getting the most votes in the first round, the GOP will be done, one way or another.

So why, exactly

Do we even have Primary elections?

I mean, if the delegates can vote exactly how the party elite tells them to their conscience and not represent the will of the voters, then what, exactly, are the primaries for?

But if no candidate has a majority of delegates during the first ballot at the convention, then the          delegates are free to cast their votes for anyone they choose.

"Donald Trump talks about polls, polls, polls," he said. "That’s been the theme of his campaign.           Using that methodology, I’m looking at polls, and that leads me to believe at this point that                  Donald Trump can't beat Hillary Clinton."

(Not to mention that you and I are paying for the farce primary elections, when they should be paid for by the parties benefitting from those election, rather than the taxpayers)

CBS today

Kasich:
"The Republicans should have "Fixed" the country when they had control"

That assumes, of course, that you assume that this country was "broken".

I don't see that. 'Twasn't perfect, but wasn't"broken". It worked. Worked well. The majority of the people were able to make a living. Some were very rich, most weren't Some were very poor....Most lived, for the most part, well. Yes, there were those on the edges who didn't, either by bad luck or (generally) by bad choices. But they had a safety net.

Now,we are bringing the middle group down, by many points, in order to raise the small percentage by a point or two. And it didn't, really, affect the affluent at all.

If anyone or anything has "broken" the country, it wasn't the Republicans. They might not have "fixed" it, but they didn't break it.

'Cause I get to go back home today....

Muahahahahahahaha.

Rumors are Not true

I kept my mouth shut and I didn't get hassled by the TSA, and I didn't get arrested at OHare airport.

But Jesus, what security theater.

Not gonna say what I could have (or may have?) gotten past the TSA. Nope. They were, however, vigilant in looking for the razor blade that wasn't in my safety razor handle (I mailed one ahead).

But their security really sucks.

As I said: Security theater.

Yo, Hipster:

Yeah, you got the used lumberjack boots...evenly worn jeans, and the L.L.Bean flannel shirt.

Nice beard too.

But your office worker-soft hands betray you to anyone who cares to look.

Real workers boots aren't evenly distressed, their jeans are worn at the pockets, and the knees, not evenly all over. And an unworn LLBean flannel tops it, bro. You are only fooling yourself...and maybe others like you. .

By the time you read this

I should be embarked on a Super Secret mission, at a somewhat secret location.

I should (assuming I survive) be back in about a week.

Expect posting to be light for a week(ish).

On the way to Grandpa's house

When I was a young lad, there was a sign that said:

"Get US out of the UN" .

And then an address for the John Birch Society. One time I wrote that information down as we passed by....

I did a bit of research, and found out a LOT about the UN. It wasn't pretty then....and it is even less pretty now. They were on the edge of irrelevant 45 years ago...

Fast Forward to today, when I read that the UN had decided that Israel is the top Human Rights Violator,,,,And the top violator of the rights of women....and a whole slew of other denunciations against Israel.
'
Add in the total mismanagement of the UN's peacekeeping, it's inability to respond to any aggressions, or any natural or other disaster, the fact that they constantly whine for funding, but have money for sculptures and other useless but symbolic things and I can't help but wonder why, exactly, the US is a part of the UN any more?

And why do we allow the UN to take up all that space in New York? They could go to Brussels and take up space in the now useless NATO headquarters......Yeah, that NATO, the one where most of the member countries have spend so much on socialist programs that they cannot field any military (see Germany and France and Belgium for examples) and are depending (again) on the US to provide the teeth while exerting (partial) control over our military.

Really, the US should give up on such organizations. They are divorced from reality, and simply waste money employing (and entertaining_ a bunch of liberals whose effectiveness is, essentially, zero.

Spare a thought

For fellow blogger Comrade Misfit.

She's gotta take her long time companion on his last trip.

He's crossing the bridge.

This has to be one of the hardest things a responsible pet owner has to do.

I've done it, and it is hard, even if it is the right thing.

So spare a thought for her today. And for Jake.

Sadly, it ain't an April Fools joke

The cops can steal from travelers again

Feds reinstate "Equitable Sharing"

This means that local and county and State cops and departments can easily resume confiscating cash from anyone who is pulled over and searched.....and it becomes a FEDERAL case,....But they get as much as 70% of the stolen property.

It is known as Civil Asset Forfeiture. THe cops can take your money or property and you have to prove where it came from....Not that they have to prove that it is ill gotten gains. You are, in essence guilty until proven innocent. ANd to prove your innocence, you get to go up against a Federal Prosecutor.

This, in the days of old, was known as Highway Robbery.

Heh

No, seriously.

I figure about 60 days

Is what it will take to pay this off....maybe 90 days tops....

In ammo savings alone....... I mean, I live 7 minutes (4 miles) from the pistol range, so gas isn't an issue....but still.

Recoil laser trainer.

CO2 powered. Kinda pricey, but....

WANT want WANT.

I've worn out 2 .45ACP LaserLytes in the past 3 years......

Seriously, I spend a bit over a $150 a month on pistol ammo, even with reloading my own.

Not sure how much the CO2 will cost. (or how many shots one gets per recharge) I could recharge with C25 or argon from the welding bottles though, which would make it cheap......

How soon til it happens to the US?

First Cyprus, then Greece, Europe in general (especially Western Europe).

Now the Canadian Government is planning Bail Ins for large depositors.

Seems like the more free stuff the government gives it's citizens, the sooner they have to resort to shenanigans like this to pay the debts.

Odd that.

One wonders though, if you have worked all your life, made good decisions, maybe good investments or sold a house for profit,:

Where does one put his money where it can be safe?

Large safes? Coffee cans buried in the yard by moonlight?

Seriously, if the banks aren't safe, and might give you a 20+% haircut, where do you put your money? Swiss accounts? Large safes? Where is it safe?

Just Cant Be

Seems that there were shots fired at the US Capitol Visitors Center......Impossible. It is a Gun Free Zone. We all know those signs and laws work.

Also, seems that the FEDS were somehow able to hack the San Bernardino terrorist's IPhone. Despite them saying that only Apple could do it.

Odd that.

Questions Re: Brussels:

How many times just prior to the bombing did the "authorities" tell people that "there is no credible threat"...Just like we hear here in the United States?

How is it that the Police in and around Brussels were able to know who to arrest immediately after the bombing at the airport?  And in France and Germany as well.....("Round up all the usual suspects").....If they knew who these people were, and they were able to break up an attack in the "late planning stages" then why were these people at large?

If the landlord where these folks rented an apartment was aware that the tenants were "odd" and used a  fake name and that the apartment had a lot of chemical smells and liquids that leaked through the ceiling of the apartment below (according to CBS news) that smelled of chemicals.....Why didn't he bother to report it to the cops? Lessee here: Paid cash, put a fake name on the mailbox, chemical smells, lots of Islamic visitors coming and going......Nah, nothing to see here folks, move along......

(I figure, from the descriptions given, that they were making "Mother of Satan"....TATP. Not for the timid. It isn't stable....and it is...energetic. Don't ask me how I know.)

Things I learned this weekend:

I bought a scale from Amazon.

One like This One.

(Of course, I hadda get a chain so I could hang it from the bucket, and a swivel so that I wouldn't damage the scale with a live load, but hey, even guys get to accessorize, right?)

Now, my small tractor will pick up about 1950 lbs at the end of the bucket if the conditions are right, and I move a lot of things, so I wanted to find out how much, exactly, some of those things weigh.

I learned that the bucket for the backhoe (which I can sorta pick up and scoot, but barely) weighs about 268 lbs.

I learned that the wedges of wood that I pick up and put on the splitter weigh from 140-230 lbs. I can carry those...mostly.

The pieces that I cannot quite pick up weigh in around 320 lbs.

The big 35" rounds from which I make the above pieces weigh in from 550 to 780 lbs.

The plate that I made for the boom so I could pick things up higher weighs about 172 lbs. No wonder I have issues moving it....The Bush Hog (that I cannot move by myself at all) weighs 694 lbs.

I learned that the log tongs I made a year ago twist at about 1750 lbs. ( now I gotta spend time with the press to make 'em flat again, but hey, I hadda find out, right?)

Now, at least, I know.

I had thought that I was weaker than that, actually. No wonder my knees hurt after splitting wood.

Remember this next time the Muslims say you have to accommodate their religion

Blast kills over 50 in Lahore Easter Celebration

On EASTER.

Respect other religions.....

"Religion of peace" and all that.

May be true for some, but how do we separate them?

How do we know that average nice guy who is a Muslim won't suddenly suffer from Sudden Jihad Syndrome? It HAS happened here, and it will again.

Ar you willing to risk your children and family?

(I find it sad, because I know many seemingly decent people who are muslim......?)

I am all for letting people practice their religion as they see fit (as long as it fits our Constitution and harms no one) but it has to be a two way street....and with Islam, it doesn't seem to be any way but their version of Islam. In fact, Muslims are the largest killers of Muslims...because the muslims they kill practice a different version of the "Religion of Peace".

Heh

For the love of all that is holy

PLEASE, PLEASE, learn the difference (and the proper usage) between"Brake" and "Break"....especially when referring to things firearm related. Even more so if you are advertising or otherwise trying to sell me a product.

Ferinstance:

It is a "Thumb BREAK holster"....

And it is a "Muzzle Brake" on the end of the barrel.
Break and Brake are not interchangeable. Just because spellcheck passes it does not mean it is the right usage. Look up the definitions if you are unsure.

That is all

Soft targets

So everyone is (again) all "On Alert"..watching for terror attacks.

But we are stupid.

In a few weeks, we will be just as complacent as we were on Monday. Not paying attention. Not bothering. Not caring. Who won on "Survivor" or whatever will be the hot topic, along with the latest news from the elections.

Right now, there are men with badges dressed in black with masks covering their faces in many public spaces, showing a military-like presence....intimidatingly carrying AR rifles. Some folks find that comforting. I find it amusing. Firstly, because in a week or two, they will be gone. Secondly because if they need those rifles today, then they will need them next week or next month or sometime in the future....but they won't be carrying them then, not when the next attack happens.  Thirdly, because a rifle isn't much good against a suicide bomber in a crowded area. What, except for comforting our more rabbit-like citizens, are they doing? If there is a good reason to carry a rifle TODAY, then there is a good reason to carry them everywhere, every day. They (the officers) look intimidating and warlike, but really, what good are they doing? (Let us  not, at this time, bother with the fact that the face masks are for NIGHTTIME operations, to hide their white faces, not for daytime use) What good is a menacing presence in some spaces doing to enhance our security? Are all those men doing anything besides menacing the population and getting the citizens used to an armed presence in their public spaces?

And the people lining up to have their bags searched....Really? Why, if the bombers want to inflict damage and bloodshed and pain and terror would they not choose to detonate them in the non secure (but crowded) areas in front of a checkpoint? They will still kill and wound many. People will still die. Terror will still occur. People will still be afraid.... It matters little where the bomb goes off.....

If the terrorists are patient, they know that next week they will have another chance, in another area, and that they will be as unimpeded as they were on Monday. They play a long game, not a short one....Chess or Go, rather than checkers, as the West does.

So what, exactly, besides giving the police a bunch of overtime, are they accomplishing?

Fixing the EPA 's fixes

So I have these new red plastic "water" cans. Oddly, some folks use 'em as fuel cans, don't know why. I use 'em for, of course, water.... These are the ones that the EPA "fixed" the design on several years ago...

They suck......It  takes about 7 minutes to completely empty one.....They have the new design "venting" spout. Which means that the can can't empty very fast because the "venting"spout really doesn't work well.

Amazon to the rescue.

These things install easily with just a 31/64 drill bit (and a drill) and a hammer to make 'em snap into place.

Pouring "water" is much easier, less splashing, happens faster (5 gallons in like 3 minutes) , and, surprise surprise, less splashing or spillage (and therefore evaporation) than before.

You will like these for all modern red, blue and yellow "water" cans. Fixes the EPA "fix".

(check your local laws...these might not be legal to use on cans used for fuels....always follow the law)

I know most are peace loving and all that...But here is the thing:

The followers of the "religion of Peace" seem to be the only ones who are blowing things (and people)  up, (now that the IRA has faded, anyway)....

I am over 50 years old (get off my lawn!) and as far back as I can remember, with the exception of the Irish it has been the followers of Mohammad that have done the hijackings, the kidnaps and the terror......And the Irish tried very hard not to hurt anyone....calling ahead to make sure that no one was around when the bombs went off. .

These terrorists don't do their work in a vacuum, by themselves. The Irish had people helping them, and hiding them, and stashing their equipment, and FUNDING them.

Same thing with these terrorists of Islam. Someone is paying their bills. Someone in Brussels hid them, fed them, aided them and allowed them to do the work that it took to plan and execute this attack. 'twasn't done in a vacuum. Someone FUNDED this attack, with funds to live, funds to make and buy the equipment necessary.

They went to a Mosque,....where?. Who knew? Who delivered packages? Who helped?

Until the rest of the Muslims stop hiding these people, start reporting them, they will always be pariahs. Always suspect. Never trusted.

My prayers go out to the victims of the attacks today.

Sunday, March 20, 2016

They say more arrests soon for people carrying firearms at the Bundy Ranch debacle.

HERE is the story.

Now, if those people were legally carrying the firearms, and not trespassing, what charges can be brought? If they never threatened the newly minted mercenaries freshly badged contractors that were dressed as Federal Agents, then under what laws are any arrests valid?

I'd like to know.

(I heard stories that the agents were watching the crowd through their scopes (which were still mounted to the AR's) and some of the crowd were scoping them back, but still, I doubt that meets even the criteria of menacing)

We shall see. It may be that this is just a tactic to make the rest of us remember and be cautious next time...

HT for the link goes to Irish

ETA: What happens when someone decides not to go quietly? All it takes is one Patriot to decide to change the odds for the next guy....."Shorten the stack", as it were...Then what?

Or are we all gonna watch it happen and do nothing? What can we do,  if and when?

Where are the riots? (doesn't matter)

I mean, a young black boy was killed. Gunned down in the evening just a few blocks from his home....

Gunned down in cold blood. He (really) was an honor student, with a great future (really!) in front of him.

Sadly, for the Black Lives Matter folks, he wasn't killed by a white cop. Or even by a white man (Supposition, but there are few white people in that part of Chicago at night that aren't cops....).

But seriously though...a young man, 16 years old, is dead. Shot by someone (this time not a cop though)...Where are the protests? The rioting? The screaming, fulminating hatred by the Black Lives Matter folks? Where is Jesse (the Reverend) Jackson? Where is Barry Obama? Where are all the other Black leaders who raised so much hell when a black criminal was shot by police? Where are they now?

Or do Black lives shot by other Blacks of no matter? Or is it because they can't make news and gain power with incidents like this???

Y'know...

I don't care who you are, Man or Woman, no matter your ethnicity, when your belly laps over the waistband of your pants that far, you are FAT. Not "Heavy", not "Big Boned", not "plump", nor "Rubenesque"...

Yer fat. Look in the mirror. Exercise and diet. Stop snacking, skip the beer. Face reality...

And no, your personality isn't gonna make up for it.

And when the Tump folks get tired of the shit

Shit like THIS....and decide to fight back....

"Violence By Protesters In Utah Against Trump Rally"

Will the headlines be as neutral and will the media treat them fairly?

Stop laughing.

Sad:

Even CBS news admits that the GOP wants to "Take down Trump".

Think about this. The Party leadership wants to stop the front runner because he isn't their first choice....(He isn't mine either, to  be honest)...So the Party no longer represents the bulk of it's supporters. It won't support, and is ACTIVELY WORKING AGAINST, the current pick of the majority of it's voters.

And they wonder why I hang up on 'em when they call for donations.

I wonder, sometimes, how many of these professional protesters are paid for by the GOP rather than the DNC?

DoYa buy things from amazon?

I do, and now they have Amazon Smile...which lets you donate a small commission to the charity of your choice.

This month, my charity is RWVA...Appleseed. Good basic marksmanship classes. Plus a bit of history.

Last month was Second Amendment Foundation.

If yer buying via Amazon (and I spend a hundred $ or so each month) ...why not? Costs you nothing and puts a bit of cash where you think it'll do some good.

just sign in using your Amazon logon and password and select your charity.

Slaves

So today, on the day that we are all just a wee bit Irish (some more than others mind you)..

Happy St Patricks Day.

We should all clamor for Reparations.

After all, the Irish were the first slaves here in America.

What if the KKK

Had promised mayhem 8 years ago if Barry Obama was elected....

Can you imagine the hue and cry from.....well, everyone? Especially the black groups and their white supporters?

"Dear white people if Trump wins young niggas such as myself are fully hell bent on inciting riots everywhere we go. Just so you know."

Bring it, Tyrone. More of us than of you. We armed. We practice.....A lot... We won't put up with the shit you pulled in St Louis and Baltimore. Most of the mayors won;t let you riot. Neither will the rest of the non-black citizens let you destroy their neighborhoods.

Words are cheap.Once you leave your neighborhoods you will find the burning and looting more difficult. More costly.

We don't care about your sense of entitlement.

(There is this to think about here too.....Opposing views: One young man felt he could take whatever he wanted. One woman though differently.)

"You have to understand… how he going to get his money to have clothes to go to school? You have to look at it from his point-of-view.”

Election

Yesterday, I was asked who I favor for the upcoming primary election:

Now, this person knows full well that it ain't gonna be Bernie or Hillary.

Knew that Rubio would be dropping out soon (happened Tuesday evening, actually)

So that really only leaves Cruz and the Donald.

I pointed out that picking the best of them was like trying to find the clean end of a turd.

Dude one table over blew an entire 4 Oz of coffee through his left nostril.

Tuesday, March 15, 2016

Hey, it's a start.

Chaffetz wants to take guns away from BLM and Forest Service agents.

While I do think that SOME of these personnel have a need and a reason to carry a firearm, most don't.

If they need to do law enforcement things, then they should get law enforcement support.

Much like the Department of Education fielding a SWAT team, there is overreach...not only are they redundant, they are wasting our money on both personnel and training and equipment.  Some agents of the government actually do need to be armed. This does not mean all do.

FAA inspectors seldom have need for a firearm. Same Same Fisheries agents. Same Dept of Energy.

Not sure where the BLM folks fall. I did think that hiring contractors for the Bundy ranch thing a few years ago was kinda stupid. Was more a job for the Sheriff or the State Police.

I can never see the BLM or the Forest Service or Parks Department needing a subgun.

I'd be embarassed

If I had to HIRE SOMEONE TO ASSEMBLE MY NEW GRILL OR PLAYGROUND SET.

I mean, it can be difficult, and sometimes irritating, but it ain't rocket surgery or anything.

Are people really that useless today?

Of course

(Democratic) NC Sheriff wants Trump charged with "inciting a riot".

Yeah, it is all Trumps fault.

Look: If you don't have Free Speech for everyone, but only for those with whom you agree, then you don't have free speech, period.

Question:

Next time a leftist or a communist (yeah, I know, redundant) wants to speak, do we conservatives get to shout and riot and defy the police to keep 'em from speaking? Will the Mayor of Chicago keep the police on a leash and prevent them from enforcing the rule of law as was done in Chicago over the Trump incident on Friday? Or will the standards change again and will we be arrested for disturbing the peace? Will the press ignore it if we buss in hundreds of paid protesters and provide them all with shirts and signs?

Screen Shot 2016-03-11 at 9.59.43 PM

How about the next time some Allah Ackbar! type wants to speak in a mosque? Can we shout and protest (and employ violence) in order to keep him from preaching violence against the infidel? Or will the Powers decide that that is again protected free speech (as it should be) and arrest people who protest?

On today

I would like to wish you all a Happy Pi Day.

Who is behind it?

"CBS Sunday Morning" had a REALLY biased "story on the "Proliferation" of guns in America.

Biased "experts" telling us about the history of guns in America and their "influence" on our culture.

Real stories about people defending themselves.....Totally biased coverage. Using things like, when telling the story saying "And she claims that" when telling the story, in tones implying disbelief.

Look: I don't care if you do an Op-Ed about anything. Don't, however, disguise propaganda as news.

Thing is, I doubt that it changed anyone's mind. Didn't influence anyone one way or another, really. The haters still hate, and the gun people are still gun people.

All it did was erode (further) the Media's credibility....and make me wonder who is behind it.

Especially wonder who is behind it.

It's a start

The housecleaning at the Wounded Warrior Project has begun.

CBS is claiming responsibility for bringing the Scandal to light, but we all know it was the Blogosphere that began the brouhaha.

At least it has begun. No more fundraising efforts wasted to provide a lavish lifestyle to some execs rather than help Veterans.

Now if they can only recover some of the funds and use them properly.

'Tis primary season in Chicago

And while I live in Indiana, our television stations are Chicago based.

I expect the Attack Ads every election season, that is part of the Chicago way.  Aimed at the low information voter and the Party Faithful, they are mean spirited...."So and so is a terrible person, they eat children and hate puppies and rainbows"

I didn't expect the Trump attack ads though. Not in the primary.

On "poor" and the "Wage Gap".

most disadvantaged have a car, a television, a cell phone and plenty to eat. What they now bleat about is income disparity, completely ignoring the truth that capitalism, while perhaps increasing the gap between the richest and poorest, has managed to increase the absolute wealth of everyone.

But that isn't what the Liberal/Progressives want:

The Iron Lady said it best:

Careful:

If you have too much ammo, or too many rifles, you might be arrested....

(around here, "he was a beginner" and "underprepared"....and certainly needed more ammo....)

But in New York, he was, apparently, a serious threat.....although I doubt any of the charges stick, seeing as all the guns were legal. And Smokeless powder is a propellant, not an explosive. At best they will get him for "improper storage".

I believe I will call him "Sir"

'Cause he is, apparently one Bad Ass Motherfucker.

Reunited

"I'll take you home".  Army Veteran Julio Munoz is reunited with his dog, Ben,  that he served in Afghanistan with.

Read it.  Dusty in here, ain't it?

The dogs adoptive family did the right thing. I am sure that it was hard on them. Kudos to the family for making the hard, but right, decision.

K2 Solutions and the Pentagon should be beaten, then tarred and feathered....then really punished. Anyone in that chain who has made the decision to give the dogs up for adoption without offering them to their handlers first needs to lose their job (or funding) and be barred from such positions of authority for life.

Contraste:

"The duties of the Senate are set forth in the US Constitution....Nowhere in that document does it state that the Senate has a duty to give Presidential appointees a vote".
     Harry Reid, 2005

Yet now:

"We have that nasty Constitution that says that they are OBLIGATED to hold hearings and OBLIGATED to vote. "
     Harry Reid, 2016.

Odd what 11 years (and a shift in political power) does to people's understanding of things, innit?

Guess what these were for?

Spring offensive?

or maybe just for "fun".

A Turkish citizen, a Swede and a man from Serbia have been arrested after a massive shipment of grenades and automatic weapons destined for Sweden was uncovered.

A Serbian, a Turk (and Finn), and a "Swede"....(Betcha he's a recent immigrant, or child of immigrants....And I'll be that he speaks Arabic and isn't a Lutheran or a follower of Odin..)

2 to 5

That's the odds I give for the winners in the upcoming clash between the "Soldiers of Odin" and the "Soldiers of Allah".

First of all, there is LOTS of bluster in nearly any Islamic group of males, and very little fight.. (although those that DO fight are somewhat competent and fairly fearless, I am told). Little organization, and not much education. Plus they aren't gonna get much support flying the ISIS flag.

Second, the Soldiers of Odin have the home turf advantage. Likely better weapons. More support from the populace. Plus Viking Blood and all that.

This shall be interesting.... I bet it happens sooner rather than later. That's what happens when someone invades rather than assimilating.

Gonna happen here sometime too...different invaders, but no less anger.

Is it a farce?

You heard it here first....

Picture this:

Trump gets no help from the RNC bosses.

Trump gets support from voters.

Trump still gets no support from RNC. Splits with the Republican Party....

Goes third party.

Fragments the Republican/Conservative voting block.

(See also: Ross Perot in 1992..Which gave us William Clinton)

Leaving us with........Hillary Clinton.

Interesting, ain't it?

One wonders.

This is what you get

When the requirements for the job don't even include a High School Diploma or GED.

You get the Lowest Common Denominator.

These people are too stupid to be in charge of security.....or work the line at Arby's...

TSA stops woman for gun shaped HEELS.

Plastic shoes with gun shaped heels.

If they can't tell the difference between plastic shoes and real firearms, then they really shouldn't be allowed to have badges. .....They might well damage themselves badly pinning them on.

lies and

Sensationalist journalism.

Then, from 1900 to 2000, the seas rose 5.5 inches—a significant increase, especially for low-lying coastal areas. And since 1993, the rate has soared to a foot per century.

(Of course, we are supposed to believe that there are no errors in the interpretation of the data used for the previous three millenia : "a database of geological sea-level indicators from marshes, coral atolls, and archaeological sites around the world"..... Just like there are no errors in the temperature datasets from the last century )

I guess that there isn't any funding if you don't say that the end of the world is NOT coming tomorrow......

"I do not recall that".

This is how you say it. Not like these sleazy politicians that we all know are lying anyway....

"This is Vinnie's watch, and I want you to have it".

Happy Leap Day

'Nother Saurday

Another class.

Whole bunch of new shooters, this time half of them women.

I think we created 6 new women shooters. One maybe. (Kinda still afraid, but she was at least willing to try and learn)

Thought for the day:

“We must reject the idea that every time a law’s broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

Pretty interesting:

2 years ago we had a REAL blizzard.

2 foot of snow in a day. . Winds about 70 MPH, Temps that fell from 35 one day to -20 F 30 hours later.

Visibility was measured in FEET. Road conditions went from so-so to VERY BAD in a few tens of minutes.

(I know, I got caught in it....spent 14 hours trapped behind a line of cars between two semis that spun out and corked up both lanes in each direction slept in the truck that night......'twas an inconvenience, but really not a big deal.... hardest part was having to go outside to pee in 70 MPH/-20 degree wind.)

Hundred of people trapped due to roads being blocked by accidents and spin outs and stuck Semi trucks. Once stopped then they were drifted in and trapped.  A real mess and the weather conditions were such that being outside was really life threatening, even with winter gear.

Never heard one word on the news media. Not One One Word.  They did talk about the roads in the City not being plowed fast enough....We chalked  our minor ordeal up to winter experiences and went on.... Winter in NW Indiana....

This year, a fairly mild and short duration snowfall, with winds in the 30 MPH range, again stopped a few drivers on some roads (mostly, again, due to Semi trucks being where they shouldn't). Temps were in the high 20's and winds were in the 30 MPH range 7-15 inches of snow over 10 hours... Not real dangerous conditions.....

The media is going apeshit over the situation....and how the drivers were trapped for AS MUCH AS 5 HOURS.  Interviewing a bunch of people who were, at worst, inconvenienced. "I've lived here for many years and I've NEVER SEEN IT THIS BAD BEFORE.....Which is bullshit, as it happens every year. Some much, much worse.

Must be a slow news week or something.

Our ancestors traveled across the plains with horses and oxen and canvas topped wagons in weather as bad or worse....

I will say

That snow at  31 F is heavy and slippery, as compared to snow at 25F.

But it does make great snowballs.

Question for the lawyers out there:

Why is robbing a bank a Federal offense, but robbing a liquor store not?

I mean, the Bank is a private entity, same as the liquor store.

Not like robbing, say, a Post Office.

can anyone explain?

Apparently Northwest Indiana has become DC

'Cause a few inches of snow can shut down everything....

SO we got, in total, depending where you were, somewhere between 6 and 15 inches.

Lots and lots and LOTS of blowing snow.

Some drifting, but not that much. ('Twas too heavy, for the most part, to drift)

And the Sheriff called a "State of Emergency". Roads are closed for non emergency vehicles.(except snowplows)

For a foot of snow.  Big deal that a semi jacknifed on a State road. Some cars were trapped behind it. For (gasp) 2 hours!. Hadda be rescued bu the Fire Personnel. (2 years ago, over a hundred were trapped. We spent 16 hours 'til they cleared the wreck (s).  No "rescue".  (Of course, we were only one group of many that year). This year, cars  trapped for an hour or two are news.

Last year, conditions were worse 10 or more times. No state of 'mergency. We called it "Winter"

'Twas slick and windy and poor visibility. Was winter. Happens every year.

The sad part is that our OFFICIALS panicked.   Shut everything down. For a foot of snow over 12 hours.

Over a (relatively) small and short lived winter storm.

Apocalyptic February winter storm update

Not much, really.

about 7" of snow, a little blowing, visibility about a half mile or more.

Winds 15-20 MPH gusting to maybe 30. Roads are slick, but not that bad. So far.

And here, according to the Weatherman (men? persons?) , it was supposed to get bad......Blizzard conditions and all that. Hasn't gotten like that yet, at least not here

This was what I call "winter". A mild storm at that.  It ain't sunny and 60, but it is February.

So far, at least.

I've walked in worse. For a fair distance at that.....Coat but no hat.

I guess the Media just had to have something to talk about.

Now if the power will stay steady, things would be fine.

ETA: 18:00 Central: The roads that were slush are now frozen with ruts. Just got interesting.

Still not what I (or the National Weather Service) defines as Blizzard Conditions.

The County has, however, declared a State of Emergency. It ain't that bad though.

AAANNDDDD Apple was right...

See, the Feds didn't just want ONE phone unlocked.

They want the ability to unlock any Apple phone they feel needs to be unlocked.

Feds want Apple to unlock NINE other phones too..

Where does the line between Security and  your Consitutional right to privacy run?

(Besides, why not just ask the NSA (or the phone carrier) for the metadata to see who Farouk called/texted/emailed.

Besides the fact that "this was not terrorism related" .....

That'll teach him...

So we have a new kitten. (Named "FIVE"....don't ask) .

He likes to hide in the dryer. Which we have done our best to discourage, to no avail. (We are worried he will not be noticed and actually get accidentally shut in and killed in the dryer).

Yesterday, I was putting clothes in the dryer, and he, of course, tried to sneak in. Again.

I finished filling the dryer, set it for "AIR" (no heat) and closed the door.

Pressed " START"

Let him go around 2 times. (only two, mind you, lots of clothes to cushion him, so I knew he'd be fine). Thre wasn't even a "thump" as he went around.

I Opened The Door.....

He came OUT! at Warp 9 (and accelerating) with every hair on his body standing STRAIGHT UP and left the vicinity in full overdrive.

He hasn't hidden in the dryer since. (and yes, he is fine, I checked).

OMFGawd

Seems that we are going to get that 10-12" of snow with high(ish) winds.

This will be the first real winter weather this season, and people are PANICKING. Closures of businesses in a pre-emptive manner are happening as we speak.

Yes, as I post  there is approximately 0.05 inches on the ground after a smattering of sleet. The temp is right at 32 degrees and there is little or no wind.

It is expected that later today there might be winds up to 25 MPH. Which COULD led to "Blizzard Conditions". (Not what I was raised to think of a "Blizzard")

Jesus, I had to walk to school in worse weather when I was a kid.*.

There is being safe, and smart, and there is overreacting. I think this is the latter. I could, of course, be wrong.

Jesus, people, this is Northwest Indiana, not Washington DC. Get a grip, fer chrissakes.

Now, if you will excuse me, I should go join the herd and stand in line to buy French Toast Supplies**

*(I actually only had to walk about a thousand feet to the place where the bus picked me up.....but the school bus ran until the roads were impassable .
** I actually already have milk, eggs and bread. Plus butter and bacon. ....I plan ahead so I don't have to fight the rest of the herd. I also have emergency frozen bacon just in case. Plus canned bacon for serious apocalyptic moments.

Almost missed it:

I meant to post this this morning:

Today is the day, 71 years ago, that the flag was raised on Iwo Jima by 5 Marines and one Navy Corpsman.

The first flag raising wasn't photographed. The second one was.

3 of the 6 men photographed were killed later. the other three survived.

Thought for the day:

.

Something sad about our society.

Kanye West gets more in a week on his GoFundMe than this guy does in months.

Page here.

And Kanye has done exactly what for our country or society? (I wouldn't unzip to put him out if his teeth were on fire, BTW, I think he is trash)

Got a few bucks that you can spare? (For SGT Hamlett, not the West POS).   Here is a Good Place to put 'em. (SGT Hamlett, not the West POS).

Racism: Alive and well.

Of course, it isn't Black people being discriminated against.

"“Due to white supremacy in our local government, this week’s BLM General Body Meeting location has changed,” a notice posted on the Nashville chapter of Black Lives Matter’s Facebook page reads. The notice says the group’s meetings are “open to black and non-black people of color only."

White supremacy....yep, 'cause the BLM people have to abide by the same laws as....whites.

But only whites can be racist, right?

The fambly that shoots together...

Has interlocking fields of fire if they are smart...

Y'know....

If Cruz would just be a guy, and not a politician,,,,,,if he would say what the rest of us are thinking and what Donald Trump isn't afraid to say....If he'd stop being PC and listening to whomever is his political advisor(s) and just be the man that he is rather than a politician.......

He'd likely beat Trump.

But since he is a politician, he turns many of us off. Since he is PC, and Trump isn't, since Cruz won't speak the truth but rather dances around it....since he is afraid to say what angers and offends certain segments of our country's demographic (who don't want to face those truths and most of whom won't vote for him anyway) whereas Trump isn't afraid.....

Cruz will lose.

Finally

First time in 19 years that I got to see the ENTIRE Daytona 500 pole to pole from my couch at home.

No interruptions, no crises at work to deal with,  no having to go in and watch it at work.

And I wasn't disappointed.

Dumb things overheard at the gunshow #5784

Customer to dealer:What is your bottom line for this gun?"

Dealer:"My cost is $634. I gotta make $25 to make the sale worthwhile"

Potential customer:"So will you take $575? "

I couldn't have said it better myself

So I will let her say it instead:

The real threats to our freedoms and liberties, at least since 1815, have never come from a foreign power. They have always been internal threats from the very people charged with defending our security.

Read, as they say, the whole damned thing.  The best part is the comic though

The bottom line

in the Apple vs FBI debacle is that Apple is saying:

"You can't ever trust your Government"

AND

"The Federal Government WILL misuse the power we give them"

Sad, but true.

Gunshew

Valpo Gunshow today and tomorrow.

Guess where I will be?

So...why the rush?

If they aren't burying Justice Scalia until tomorrow(Saturday) then why the rush to move him, declare his cause of death with no autopsy, and embalm him for the trip home?

Why wasn't there time for a proper investigation?

I mean, if there was some reason he had to be buried in a short period of time or something, then (maybe) I could understand.

That does not appear to be the case here.

So, why the rush?

Enough to make me think about buying

an Apple product (despite the inherent hardware issues)

Apple defies order to create backdoor software to unlock any IPhone.

On the one hand, the owner of the IPhone is dead....and a Terrorist. (besides, THEY assured us he and his wife acted alone snicker, so what is the big deal?)

On the other hand, this is a tool that WILL be misused. You know it, and I know it.

Kudos to Apple.

Turnabout is fair play

Via JOE:

"We should NOT confirm any Bush nominee to the supreme court except in extreme circumstances"

"Ideologues".

Now, the positions are reversed.

If you are so inclined, say a prayer for Judge Scalia and especially for his family.

Interesting

And very, very ODD.

"There will be no autopsy performed, a source familiar with the case confirmed to CNN. The decision for no autopsy was made both by the family and the Texas Justice of the Peace, the source said."  ('bout a third of the way down)

Ruled a heart attack over the phone....No autopsy...then quickly embalmed (in order to have his remains transported out of state, embalming is required by law)

Perhaps he was "Fostered". One would have thought that such an important figure would have an autopsy. I mean, it's not like he was some street guy who influenced or mattered to no one......He was, after all, a Supreme Court Justice.

Sure makes ya wonder. The conspiracy folks will go apeshit over this.

We are FUCKED

Justice Scalia found dead at Texas Ranch.

Now, the dude was old, I admit....But....Vince Foster. Or not. I dunno

But still.....One wonders. RIP Justice Scalia.

Barry's pick oughta be....interesting....and we know that Congress will do what he asks, so.....Before the election?

ETA: Until the Clintons, no one would have thought that. About Scalia being "Fostered", I mean.
I find that sad.

You know you want one:

A most cunning hat, don't you think?

Lesson:

.

Don't drive Honda CRV's in Boston...

At least, that was the message I got.

When it is time, it is time. Can't escape the hand of the Fates. Poor lady. Hope it was quick, is all I can say.

So the boys (and girls) in Burns

are NOT taking the reasonable way out.

Seems the Feds are trying to end this as peacefully as possible. But the folks at the Wildlife refuge don't seem to be reasonable (or rational).

These folks appear to be suicidal. They lost, no one rallied to them. Their leaders are arrested (except for Ryan Payne, who appears to be a government agent (I could be wrong))

This isn't gonna end well.....and it isn't gonna be the fault of the Feds, either.

Y'know, the Patriot Movement doesn't need whackadoodles like this.

ETA: Update:: They finally surrendered.  Which was the smart thing..... Having said that, I thought they were "Not afraid to die" and had planned to "fight to the last" and all that.

I am glad that it is finally over.

Down 80%

Seems that since Maine told folks they have to do SOMETHING in order to receive food stamps (at least if  you are an adult with no dependents) that the number of people on the rolls has, oddly enough, dropped by 80%.

Now, if the rest of the country would follow that lead, we'd be able to stop wasting our money on people who have no ambition...

Personally, I think that we should drug test everyone who receives any handout from the government, state, local, or Federal. I'd be willing to be that there would be a similar drop in participation if folks had to make a choice....

No shadow

So maybe the Groundhog will bring us an early spring.

Likely, since we haven't really had a winter this year....

Monday, February 1, 2016

Because cops, that's why...

If this had been you, or me, or any other "civilian" (aren't cops civilians too?) then we'd be charged and doing time for firing blindly at these women. The "perceived threat" wasn't a reasonable one. Wrong make, wrong color..... But it was a pickup....

THIS is an example of the different standards of judgement and behavior for Police officers and the rest of us citizens (aren't cops citizens too?)

They are lucky they didn't kill each other, really. If their judgement is that poor, they shouldn't have badges and guns.

"Lock the doors"

Those was the words used by Flight Director Leroy Cain when it was determined that the Columbia was lost.

Ars Technica has an excellent article on the sequence of events.

HERE

It should also be noted that the foam composition had changed. The environmentalists (and the EPA) had caused NASA to change the foaming agent and the foam composition to one that was less toxic and more environmentally friendly....this made the foam much more brittle. So the foam strikes happened because the EPA and a few environmentalist were worried about a bit of Ozone Depleting Chemicals and a few pounds of not so terribly toxic material that might vaporize....a few POUNDS....

7 people died to save the ozone...

The Chinese must be getting desperate:

So last spring, I purchased a 3 point backhoe from a company in China.  Figured I'd buy one, and learn the import process and the issues involved and try out the unit, which was HALF of similar units marketed here in the states.

Nice little unit. Not perfect, typical Chinese engineering and manufacture.

Had considred importing a few more to sell at a profit, and had discussed the pricing for multiples with the factory rep.

After a bit of use, I decided that there would have to be some small modifications made to make me (and my future buyers) happier, so I had also begun discussion about those changes.

They refused to modify pricing, so our discussions stalled.....for several months..

Then, a month ago, they made a better offer on price via email. Then a bit better offer. Then they were receptive to the modifications.

THEN THEY CALLED ME AT HOME IN THE EVENING ASKING WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO GET ME TO BUY SOME for import.

Odd that, .Must be that the stories are true.........Maybe their economy IS melting down.
