Question for the lawyers out there:

Why is robbing a bank a Federal offense, but robbing a liquor store not?

I mean, the Bank is a private entity, same as the liquor store.

Not like robbing, say, a Post Office.

can anyone explain?

Banks are regulated by the Federal Reserve (and several other agencies) while retail stores are regulated by the state.

The Feds don't insure booze.

Which is kind of a pity, since what's in my liquor cabinet is retaining value much better that what's in my wallet.
