Truth.

So, due to vacations, I've been working in areas that I generally don't, covering those folks who are on vacation.

Now, I work with a lot of middle aged women, and they tend to ....chat....A lot.  No group of 1+ women can work in silence, it seems. They discuss weather, finances, clothing, styles, other women, other women, other women, people in general, other women, relationships, etc.

So, while I am not much of the kind of person who likes to listen to other people's conversations, sometimes circumstances force that to happen. They never stopped talking and simply forgot that I was there.

Last week, I heard more than I ever cared to about several ladies. And I found out that one of them is ...unhappy...with the attention that her husband is paying her.

I found out that she has gone out of her way to make herself attractive to him, buying lots and lots of lingerie, and having her hair done  and nails and all sorts of other woman style tricks to make him notice her and want her. (Sadly, she doesn't bother to realize that few of these will make her more attractive in HIS eyes, but only make her feel good about herself).

The other ladies were sympathetic and supportive. It is, of course, the fault of the man here.

No one pointed out that she has, in the past 5 years, gone from a shapely (if large) physique (rubenesque might be appropriate here), to a shape that more closely resembles a barrel with legs. She was never a slim woman as long as I have known her, but she at least had a shape. Hips, if large, and a waist. ....Now as I said,  she no longer looks like that....she resembles a barrel with arms and legs. Has a huge jelly roll, and is, frankly, fat. I never cared much one way or the other as she is a co-worker, not anyone I could or would be interested in, but I felt sad that no one, not one of her female friends, would point out to her that she was, frankly, fat...if not the edge of obese.  That to most men she wasn't attractive. None of her co-workers suggested that she lose say...,..30 or 50 lbs. (I certainly wasn't going to, that is for sure!)

Now I understand that in a perfect world this wouldn't matter, but to most men, it does. Physical attractiveness is linked to health and fertility,  and that is just the way it is..... Ladies: Here is a hint....if you have no waist (or if your waist is thicker and bigger around than your hipbones), and if your belly sticks out farther than yer boobs, then you might want to think about a diet and/or exercise.

But the ladies all commiserated with her on how it was a shame that "He" wouldn't look at her anymore.  How it was a shame that men just don't look at women as they age. And all that other folderol that fails to admit the truth: For most men, fat (really fat) isn't attractive.

So few left.....

Just a thought:

In a just world, Rose Eveleth would be fired from her job and shunned by all for her whiny, bitchy tirade against Dr. Matt Taylor.

She shows why some people believe that women should be cloistered by their fathers until they are sent to an all women's school until they meet their (arranged) husband. You women are all obviously too weak and sensitive to be able to deal with the real world...and are too easily disturbed by things to be allowed to run free in the modern world.

What, really has she ever done that is productive, constructive or worthwhile?

Sunday thought:

“What can be said for a man who would allow his home to be invaded by strangers who demanded they be fed, clothed, housed and granted the rights of the first-born? What can be said for a ruling elite that permits this to be done to the nation, and who celebrate it as a milestone of moral progress?” — Patrick Buchanan (State of Emergency, 2006)

So can I hold services in mosques?

'Cause the Muslims get to hold services in a CHRISTIAN cathedral. Seems some chick objected and got tossed out.

I actually believe in religious tolerance. I really don't care how you worship, or whom you worship. Couldn't care less., Your business, not mine. Until you make it my business.  But there is a point where the Muslims are starting to piss even me off. They (or at least a subset of them) seem to feel that they have to defile every single other religious place with theirs. Now, "Defile"  may be too strong of a word, but really. I haven't ever seen any Christian or Jewish services held in a Mosque. And rightly so. It'd piss the Muslims off. But they seems to feel that doing similar things to Christian houses of worship is ok.

At some point, in order to keep the peace in this country, we are going to have to say, and enforce, "No" to these muslims.

Or there is gonna be a war.

And we are gonna end up like Sweden and England (look it up yourself) and Germany (ditto).

And yet they want everyone else to

"Accommodate Women"

I mean, we've gotta give 'em up to two years to decide whether they want to come back from giving birth, (and have to hold her job for her so that IF she returns, she gets it back). We gotta give her special treatment and cannot charge more for insurance, even though her use of medical facitlites will be 37% higher than a mans (on average).

If we object, then we are part of the "War on Women"

But the DNC can't accommodate a pregnant member of their own party....

Sad, this continuing war on women by the DNC......Especially the women of the DNC.

It's not always a natural disaster

That you can prep for:

Sometimes it is your fellow citizens that might make life difficult for a few days...

Ferinstance, say you live near Ferguson, MO... Like the nearby town of Berkeley.....

I guess that the authorities expect the some black folks in the area to riot if the decision of the Grand Jury goes the way it looks like it will.

If I were living in, or nearby to, a largely urban area, I think I might take heed. The cops I know expect sympathy riots to happen in larger urban areas. While they don't think that too much will happen, there may be some who march (which is harmless), and others who use this as an excuse to loot riot (which is not harmless).

If you travel through, or work in such an area, I'd pay close attention, and leave work early if possible when things break. If you have a business in such an area, I'd think about having plans to secure it quickly, and either have stocked supplies so I could stay and protect, or a plan and several routes to leave soon after securing my building. Each

Have a plan to retrieve yer kids if they have to travel through an area to get home from school too.

Preparation is the key here. If and when, you'll be glad you had a plan.

Big bad SWAT

Because SWAT, that's why.

Not sure of all the details here, but the VIDEO (bottom of article if you haven't seen it already) is pretty dramatic. (Warning: might be disturbing to some)

I mean, really, a 5 lb dog?  A danger? Or just because?

Now most of this could have been avoided by the dogs owner not being stupid, I will admit...But still.

And I want to know where I can buy one of those "Armor Piercing Crossbows"?

Methinks the dog was irritating the SWAT boys as they stacked up for the door rush....and since they had their guns handy,,,,,

Will our congress let him get away from it?????

So rumor has it that Barry is gonna just write an executive order that legalizes a whole bunch of illegal aliens immigrants.

Now this, in my opinion, is illegal. HE DOESN'T GET TO WRITE LAWS. Laws are made, and voted on, our two Houses of Congress. He gets a veto on the laws presented to him, period.

At least that is what the Constitution says.

Barry ain't a king, and our Congressmen and women and our Representatives need to remind him of that. They've let him get away with acting like one, but this has to stop. There needs to be a message sent, and, if need be, a court challenge to his executive orders should he choose to attempt to legalize a bunch of lawbreakers criminals border crossing illegal aliens who have broken our laws and care little for the country. Our representatives need to stop him this time.

If Barry can break the law and is not bound by  laws, and if he is not bound by the Constitution, the why should the rest of us be? Why should I acknowledge the legitimacy of his authority under the same document he flaunts?

And that is a good point

Tam has a really good point to ponder.

Why should I follow the law, when there appear to be no consequences for those who don't?

When being an upright, honorable, model citizen means I get jacked for piddly little shit, when Mr. Violent Sumdood gets away with blatant misdeeds because the po-po just can't be bothered.......

Why should I follow the law?

What is YOUR reaction time?

Find out here
(since blogger seems to be having issues, go to  http://www.humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime  )

I averaged a bit under 240 ms....high of 304, low of 146.

Try it.

Yaaay

So SiteMeter FINALLY fixed whatever issue I (or they) had with my ability to sign in and view my hits and statistics.

Only took 2 1/2 weeks and 3 emails.

Not so sure I wanna pay for their service....

No explanation or notice, it just started working again.

Veterans Day

Thanks very much to all of you.

wreck

Today, 39 years ago, the Edmund Fitzgerald was lost. Broken in two, she lays in 530 feet of water near the Canada US boundary near Whitefish bay in Lake Superior.

29 men died that day, Nov 10 1975.

Gordon Lightfoot made a large sum of money with his ballad, not much of which was facts. But were it not for his ballad, there'd be little remembrance of that loss.

29 men died, and that is the sad part.Their families remember though.

Might explain Liberalism:

Scientists find virus that hinders Cognitive functions...

Fanning the flames

Seems that *Someone* wants to stir people up.

Perhaps make another day of rage.

'Cause we all know that, without any facts at all, we can judge the actions of others based solely on race, right?

Now, I don't know what happened that day in Ferguson, Mo...neither do you, nor do any of the folks who want Officer Wilson lynched (and yes, they want a lynching). Reports are that there are (more that) several witnesses who dispute the stories being bandied about by the race baiters and the rabble rousers. And all of THOSE witnesses are black.

I haven't heard their testimony, so I really don't know, but reports are that they more or less corroborate the testimony of Officer Wilson.

I refuse to make any judgement. I do know that young Mr. Brown appears to not have been a very nice person, that evidence disputes the "Gentle Giant" meme, and that Officer Wilson appeared to be a good officer.

But again: I. Don't. Know. And I am not willing to judge either one based on facts not in evidence. I *DO know that there is a disparate news coverage based on race. I *DO* believe that this is being pushed to start (or inflame) a race war.

I *DO* know that most people (of any color/race/ethnicity) couldn't protest if they wanted to....because they are working for a living. Only the unemployed, the welfare takers, and those who don't have to work for a living have the time to protest, and have noting to lose if they are arrested, so they are gonna be there. Decent, hardworking people likely won't be.

So:

In order to save time (like 2 hours disassembling some machinery, the the same reassembling) I used an old fashioned method of fixing something....Which included turning a piece of tooling with a 24" pipe wrench about 2 foot over my head. (with the help of a piece of pipe for additional leverage)

The result? I did indeed save 3+ hours.  I impressed myself and my helper with the amount of force I could exert..

And I appear to have damaged the deltoid and top of the bicep in my right arm.

That was 2 weeks ago.

Now when I was 18, and had an injury like that? It'd heal in a day or three, 5 tops. Not too sore after a day or two.

Not so much today......now that I am on the downhill side of the half century mark. It has been getting more and more painful. Not healing at all.
Tiger Balm and massage, and if I'm lucky, I'll be able to hold a 1911 up at shoulder level for 60 seconds in a day or two.... 'Cause right now, I have to shoot as soon as the sights are on target, 'cause I can't hold the gun up long.

Aging sucks.

Happy Birthday Marines

fighting for the country since 1775.....

I got wood...serious wood

I used a different set of log tongs (still gonna make a set as soon as I find some half inch plate) to pick up the rounds in my front yard and stack 'em in the back yard. It's nice having the tractor to pick 'em up.

Yeah, those rounds stacked are 70+inches tall.

Plus these:

Makes for a lot of wood. It'll make a LOT of firewood come next year.

I used a set of these:

Which are nice tongs, for what they are, but they really don't grip the logs the way the tongs that I lost . They just sorta hook the wood. Yeah, they are meant for skidding, not lifting, but they really won't replace what I had, either.

I'm still gonna make a new set. I gotta find some 1/2" drops that are like 18"X 6"

So the cops

are telling me they are hoping the Ferguson/Brown/Wilson Grand Jury decision (which by all accounts if is anything resembling fair, will exonerate Officer Wilson) happens later in the week, as then the weather will be cold and somewhat windy, and the protests in major urban areas will be less motivated to stay out and make trouble....In other words, they'll fizzle out fairly quickly, if they happen at all.

Seems that they all believe that these folks will only protest when it is convenient, and they'll protest only because they don't have anything better to do. and won't when they might get uncomfortable doing it.

I hope they are right about this.

Fuck 'em

Who says they have any authority, anyway?

What right does the "Lexington-Fayette Urban County Human Rights Commission" have telling any business that they can't refuse to provide goods or services to anyone?

A privately owned business should be able to choose who, when, where and how they do business. If they don't want to do business with someone, then that is their choice. Not up to the government, be it state, local or federal. If they want to discriminate based on religion, or race, or gender or whatever, that is between them and their customers....Not any government entity...Iif the Human Rights Commission is actually a government entity)

I would have issues were this a publicly funded entity such as a school or a government office, but it isn't. It is a private business.

I'd contribute to a legal defense fund, if he goes to court and needs help.

Just say "No"

To Loretta Lynch.

She is as racist as Eric Holder, if not worse.

I expected as much from Barry, but still. Let us hope all those white folks in the Senate say "No" as well.

Rumor has it

That things are gonna get all...exciting...in Ferguson and surrounding areas very soon.

Were I a business owner, I'd have tried to find a way to secure my business better.

Or I'da closed it down already, or sold it.

The local Sheriff has told me they expect sympathy riots in the South Side of Chicago and Gary.

Oughta be interesting.

If yer in, or work in, or must pass through a "minority area" then I'd stay frosty.

At least he's honest.....

I'm not sure where I found this, or I'd give credit....

They should make his casket

Out of CorningWare too....

Inventor of CorningWare dies.

Lots and lots of stuff became possible because of his accidental discovery of PyroCeram, (glass ceramics).

And lots of people ate meals that could only have been made in CorningWare dishes. Especially the square ones with the ears....

Nope, I'm not talking about Pyrex...that is an entirely different subject .

Bundy Ranch news

Seems that the BLM is going about things in a different direction....an end run around.

HERE

"Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACECs) are human restricted management areas. ACECs have been a tool used by the federal government to gain further control of large masses of western lands and the resources.

As proposed, nearly 3 million acres in Southern Nevada will be locked away from the people. This includes most uses on the land (recreational, agricultural or otherwise)."

Read the whole thing. Yeah, the Bundy's are biased, but still....

If they do this, will "Dirty Harry" still get his solar plant?

Oh, and one more thing:

This election, and your win in many places, was NOT a mandate for your policies, but rather the citizenry making the best  least bad choice from a pool of bad ones. You didn't win so much as they lost.

No one wants "DNC lite" here, we want conservative leaders. Please Please please don't think that you have to appease your opponents, nor their followers. You won because you weren't them, so don't be like them after the election.

Stand for something...don't disappoint your constituents.

OK, GOP:

You've got control of the Senate. And the House.

Great.

NOW DO SOMETHING WITH IT!.

Fix things. I expect to see some legislation coming very soon to fix the last few years. Like repeal of Obamacare, so people can be able to work full time again. Like getting the economy back to working. Like reduction of spending, getting the deficit under control.
Make Barry veto stuff. Make him stand for his failures.

Change the attitude of the government towards the citizens.

Time to be conservatives, and STAND FOR SOMETHING. Don't pander to the other side. They couldn't get enough votes. You did.

Try, very hard, not to fuck up as badly.

AMEN!

Via Peter

By all the polls

The Republican backed candidates are gonna win big.

Maybe.

Can they overcome the "Margin of Fraud"? The DNC folks have ramped things up in that arena lately.

My polling place uses paper ballots. They are read by an electronic reader, true, but they can always be rechecked bu a human if need be. There is still a ballot that can be viewed, unlike the touch screen setups with "calibration errors" that leave no permanent record of the vote.

We shall see.

The Republicans will take their win as a mandate, not realizing that people just want anyone else but what they have now. If I felt it would send a message, I'd either not vote or vote for third party...But OG has convinced me to vote (at least this time) for the lesser of the two weasels.

If more people knew this

Or if the MSM would do the job they claim to;

Then the borders would be closed very shortly thereafter.

The CDC admits that disease was imported along with the illegal immigrant kids this summer..... Measles, enterovirus, flu etc. Which was orchestrated by the Democrats and the Obama administration cronies. Kids have DIED because they were exposed to diseases brought by these children from other countries.

IF the American people understood, they'd lynch the Obama folks.

Sunday, November 2, 2014

Well, shit.

So today (Saturday) I went with some friends to get a few tons of firewood. Storm damaged oak, to be exact. Really big oak. The tree was circa 120 years old, the rounds coming in a just under 48" on average. This was the first real work I had done since I tried to remove my left index finger with a table saw a few weeks ago..(look for an upcoming post about that soon).

Took the tractor on the trailer to my brother's house, and began loading tree parts. 10K pounds or so on my trailer, about 8k on the other one, and about 6 on the smaller one. Took that to my house and unloaded...the rounds roll right off if you place then right when loading.

Second run, we put another 10K pounds or so on my trailer, about 10k on the other one, and about 8k on the smaller one. (which was about 1500 lbs too much). Left the tractor there so bro could do some work with a plan for retrieval later in the week.

Dropped one trailer load at my neighbor's house, and went about 20 miles to drop the others. (stopped and moved the smaller trailer's load a bit, moving about 1k to my trailer and moving the other 500 or so lbs to the front of the trailer to make it balance better.

Now, the last stuff we loaded wasn't rounds, but broken pieces that we didn't need the log tongs for...At that point, things become murky. My brother took the tongs off of the hook on the loader bucket...that much is sure. No one really knows what happened after that. All we know is that several hours later bro calls and says "Where are the log tongs?" He thinks he left 'em on the trailer, and I had assumed that when he took them off of the tractor bucket he put them somewhere safe. I did hear a "klank" as if I had lost or run over something when driving to the unload point but I looked in the mirror and didn't see anything so I kept going...I mean, I didn't expect there to be anything but logs and ratchet straps on the trailer, and I could see both the straps in the mirror,........., so I dunno...,and when I went back to that stretch of road, there wasn't anything to be found...I walked close to 4 miles of that road to try and find them. I DROVE the entire route, but again, no joy. If they fell off the trailer, someone else has a really good set of log tongs now...I had assumed that the tongs were with the tractor, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Now I wouldn't mind this much, as a few tens of dollars will buy a set of mediocre log tongs. But I MADE these and have had them for over 18 years. I cut and bent them and hard faced the points. I welded the rings to the chains that lifted and pulled the tongs closed. I welded the swivel at the juncture of the chains so that things could turn to make it easier to use 'em. They have been bent, twisted and mangled, but each time I'd toss 'em into the fire and heat 'em and beat 'em straight again. Then I'd heat em again and temper them so they wouldn't twist as much These were durable tongs...I built 'em to hold 3000 pounds, and they and picked up all of that and more. I know they have lifted 5000 pounds several times. I modified them enough to do the job the way I wanted them to. But most important, these were MINE. One of a kind. I dunno if I can recreate them.

Now they are gone. Bummer. I hope whoever found 'em on the road uses them and takes care of 'em.

I has a sad.

I'm trying to remember what the dimensions are so I can recreate the tongs. I can only sorta remember the dimensions that I built 'em to...18 years ago....And the new dimensions I bent them to after the first design sorta needed massaging. And, of course, not even a picture to scale them from. I no longer have access to a forge, either. Not sure I can bend things enough with a torch.

Now I gotta re-invent the wheel. After I find someone with a really decent plasma cutter that can cut 3/4  plate...

Next time I will check myself to see that my equipment is properly put away, rather than trusting people....

No need for a quarantine

A quarantine has no basis in science....

And now Kaci Hickox's roommate (when she was working in  Sierra Lone) has Ebola.

But there is no need to quarantine Ms Hickox....There is NO CHANCE she has Ebola....

Right...

Of course, entry restrictions  would prevent any chance of ever having an issue...

Even Canada has gone Anti Science and restricted Visas....but those Canadians are all racist anyway.

Just outside there...

...Is where I live.....So I saw this graphic that claims that HALF of the population lives in the blue shaded areas. (I cannot confirm this, but have seen similar graphics that show a similar pattern.)

No wonder the character of this nation has changed so drastically in my lifetime. The urban people have so much influence over so great an area that they know nothing about. Note in the second graphic the concentrations of minorities....Is it any wonder things are the way they are?

Captured

They caught Eric Frien.

He is accused of shooting 2 Pennsylvania State Troopers (killing one).

If he is guilty, then I hope he hangs. Or rides the lightning...or gets the needle. Whatever the folks in Pennsylvania use.

But I haveta ask this question:

Had he shot two "regular" people, what would have happened? What if the victims had been you and I?  Would there have been a 3 week, Multi-Million dollar manhunt?

Would they have used FLIR equipped Balloons and aircraft?
Thousands of policemen? Dogs? Spent hundreds of man hours searching?
Abrogated the constitutional rights of thousands of citizens?

Would they have bothered for a non-police officer?

I doubt it.

Info bleg:

So Sitemeter (again) has issues. For the past week I haven't been able to see my stats.

Nor has the help desk been responsive. Have emailed them several times....but no reply. Have filled out their contact form as well....still no joy.

If the site loads and doesn't time out, I get a "this report is unavailable" message or I get a "Jgraph error" message.

Now the "this report is unavailable message isn't new, but the timeout issue is, I could always look at the 7 day graph to see my current stats, but now I get the table error as well.

I realize that this is a "free" service, but still....

Any suggestions for an alternative? Suggestions as to what I should stay away from?

Jokes on you:

“Paddy, you should be more careful about pulling your drapes at home. When I drove past your house last night I distinctly saw you kissing your wife.”

“Ha, well, then the joke’s on you, O’Riordan. I wasn’t home last night.”

On the bright side, he can still count the innings.....

Jose Canseco "shoots off" his middle finger while "cleaning"a gun.

Not many details, but a Negligent Discharge.

Stupid hurts.

5 states

Where "calibration errors" have resulted in Republican votes being logged as Democrat votes on electronic touch screen voting machines.

Yet there are no(reported) instances where the "Calibration Errors" have caused a machine to register a democrat vote as a republican vote.

What are the odds?

Methinks the "Margin of Fraud" has just gotten bigger.

They should toss her ass into confinement...

Nurse says she won't abide by quarantine...

Someone needs to kick some sense into Kaci Hickox.

Despite the fact that they have stricken all references of her from their website, SHE WORKED FOR THE CDC, and should know better.

Blogroll

yeah, I cleaned up a bit. Some folks just stopped posting. After 6+ months, time comes when you must go.

Yeah, yeah, I know

That I have been harping on this Ebola stuff way too much.

But really, is there no common sense in our government officials? Do the people who SHOULD know better not have the guts to stand up and say "NO!" when it comes to lying parroting the Politically Correct line of bullshit.

BTW: If you aren't reading Racontuer Report then you should be...especially THIS post...why all the aid we send is essentially a waste. And why leaving our borders open won't fix things over there. Sierra Leone is, essentially, a write off. Even the aid agencies are pulling out. And the Africans Can't/Won't /Aren't smart enough to help themselves.

And yet, oddly enough:

Troops serving in West Africa, no matter what their job, no matter who they are in contact with....

(drumroll)...

Are quarantined

So the military is convinced that quarantine works. (because it does)

But not for civilians, apparently...at least according to Barry. (We must remember to add medical disease expert to his incredibly impressive resume....)

Monday, October 27, 2014

Pants on fire.

So the folks who should know what they are talking about are parroting the line  "Quarantine is ineffective" when it comes to Ebola. I am not sure why the statement was first uttered nor why Anyone would repeat it.

Seriously. How can it Not be effective? Keeping a person who may or may not have a disease under observation until the likelihood has passed that they would show symptoms or develop the disease in order that they will not infect others is "ineffective"?  How so? Why is it a good idea to allow people with potentially deadly diseases to wander around the general population until they are infectious and expose others a better idea? It may be inconvenient for the people returning from affected areas, or who have given care to people here, but it WILL prevent the spread of disease here in the US. The doctors and nurses may not like the idea, but at least they know it will happen...and it will help keep ebola out of OUR population here in the US.

Quarantine works....It has worked for many years in our past.  In fact, I had the pleasure of paying for a cat to be quarantined until it was determined that he did not have rabies a few weeks ago. THis was state law....that the cat remain under observation and was not allowed to interact with others until the time had passed wherein it could be determined if the cat had rabies and could infect others (and whether it had infected me).

Logic would say that if it was effective in that instance to prevent the spread of rabies, and if it has worked in our past to prevent the spread of other diseases, it would be effective now.

I don't understand why these people are effectively lying when it comes to ebola. I fail to understand their logic, and I wonder what other reasons they have for making these false statements, They are, effectively, putting people's live at risk.

Quarantine may not be 100% effective. Few things are. But quarantining people likely to be infected upon their return to the general population will greatly reduce the chances that the  virus will be spread in this country.

And really, do they think the rest of us are that stupid as to believe such a statement?

I didn't buy anything

Except breakfast. And some really excellent pie.

The Nappanee Indiana fall gunshow was on Saturday.

Usually a nice show. Lots of private sellers and lots of collectibles.
Generally sane(r) prices and such, unless one is looking at 120+ year old collectible leverguns in NRA 90% or something (yes, you can find those in this small show) or WWII bringbacks (of which I know nothing, so...)

But not this year. Extremely high prices. Even if one wants a 700 in 257 Robers or something, (used), you'd find it....for $850 or more...Other pricing was similar. 870 wingshooters for $600...used. Ammo was available if a bit high. But available.

Pass.

I bought breakfast and a piece of pie. I did get to eat about a pound of Amish bacon for breakfast though.

Didja ever notice

That gun massacres and mass shootings generally happen only near election times or when the gun control folks are pushing an agenda or some new legislation?

And I bet that we find the perpetrator of this crime  was on ritalin or other mind altering drugs...prescribed by a doctor.

Of am I just being paranoid?

I'll come to your place, if and when

I've actually had people tell me that when I have suggested they do a bit of prepping.

My answer:

"No, no you won't. "

Here's why.

Sunday, October 19, 2014

As the man says:

HEH

Saturday was class day

16 students. Only one idiot.

Why can some people not follow basic directions?

The rest of the class did well and got a First Steps pistol certificate.

15 new shooter smiles. Worth every bit of my time.

It is reported

That high concentrations of alcohol will quickly kill all ebola virus germs.

Start early, keep you BAC high...No, higher than that! yes, that high.

I am currently conducting experimnts right nw.

So far, I ahve no ebola, but wil kep drnkng until I am sur that there is no furtr risk.

Mor as reslts are finlzd nad infmtn willbe rprtd and mrdsnfs as medicl necessarmry.

Because the CDC was so underfunded

They couldn't even accomplish their primary objective....

Yet they could do all of these things.....

Anyone see a a problem?

Indeed

 Dusty in here

Pass it on, please.

Via

A very interesting point

Can be found HERE.

Something to think about, if and when.

Intelligence?

One might have thought that the health care folks who were treating Mr. Duncan in Dallas might have been, if not quarantined, at least restricted from travel....But no. Apparently, they have all gone on far flung vacations.

Third ebola caregiver showing mild symptoms... ON A CRUISE SHIP! Note that Belize doesn't want anyone from that ship on their soil. Which shows that the public health folks in Belize are smarter than Asparagus. (Which my not be true about the decisionmakers for Dallas Public Health and the CDC)

Why'n the hell are they being allowed to travel?

And if Ebola is "so hard to catch" then how did they all get it?

If there is a third wave from any of these healthcare workers, then the CDC folks should be charged with attempted homicide for their negligence.

And beaten for their stupidity...

Now, there are a LOT of diseases that look like Ebola (or Ebola looks like a lot of other diseases) in the early stages.  Cruise ships are known for harboring Norovirus, so it could be that...But still, travel after caring for Ebola patients with no quarantine?

While Ebola carriers move through the system

Infecting others along the way...

Remember that the CDC and NIH were spending their taxpayer funded budgets on Anti-Gun propaganda and Overweight Lesbian studies and other non disease related things....

Which is why their response to the upcoming Ebola crisis has been so poor and disjointed and ineffective.

I'm not even sure if anyone there really knows more than I do (and I only know what I can find via Google, honestly) about Ebola.

So rather than spend our money on, you know, disease research, The Centers for Diease Control has been pissing it away.

And the National Institute for Health has been doing the same.

Kinda like the fact that the Feds were watching you and I while the 9-11 terrorists boldly waked into this country and killed 3000 people....because the Feds weren't looking and preparing for the right danger....

Winning:

Seems that the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has (oddly enough in today's liberal government) reinstated the Texas Voter ID law...

This was one fought by Eric Holder in an attempt to defraud eligible voters "make it easier for minorities to vote".  The Justice Dept (and Eric Holder and his boss, Barry O) lost this one...For now at least.

Oddly enough, you need an ID to get beer, cash a check, get a job....Open a  bank account (unless you are an illegal alien)..get welfare, etc. But it is an undue burden to have to get one....at least to get one when you have to use it to vote...

Here in Indiana we have had  this law for years. Last time I voted, the folks at the polling place said "Hi, B, nice to see you...lemme see your ID"... (they follow the law!).

Much less fraud here in Indiana...maybe not zero, but a LOT less. And minorities somehow were able to produce an ID when they wanted to vote for Barry......

Question:

Does anyone know what has happened to the folks living with Mr Duncan in the aprtment where he fell ill?

No one has said what happened to them....

Are they healthy? Or do they have Ebola?

'Twould seem to me that if this disease is so virulent that a nurse could catch it despite protective gear ("Ebola is hard to catch", remember?) that the folks who were in close contact with him when he was in frank symptoms must have been exposed....especially after living in that same apartment for a few days after he was admitted to the hospital...And we haven't seen hide nor hair of them since they were whicked away and placed into isolation....

Anyone know?

Seriously, he'll fit in an overnight box....

I'll even pay shipping....

But seriously, gotta find a home for this kitten. He's starting to talk back to me, and he's cute. I really don't need another cat. He's a kitten right now, but he will soon grow into a cat.

I like kittens (who doesn't?) but I am not fond enough of cats to want 6+.

Someone must have a home for a kitten. I have a kitten to fit that home.

(and no, I wouldn't ship him..... asshole)

What with all the unrest in Ferguson, Mo...

One might think that the residents in the area might want to change the government and the police and all.

But No...they don't. Or at least they can't/Won't be bothered.

70% of the residents in the area are black....but 4 out of 5 town council members are white.

And no one has bothered to register to vote...so they get the government (and the police) they deserve.

I have found this to be a pattern with relatively poor  African American people (and the poor in general, actually).. they are unhappy with the way their lives are going and how they are treated, but they do little to improve their lot in life.

Kornered cat update

Yeah, the Kitty (Think he should be named Buzz (as in saw)) has survived his 10 day quarantine. Still trying to find him a good home.

He is healthy, happy, and has mellowed into a normal domestic type kitten behavior.

Anyone need a nice kitten? He's pretty cute, actually.

I can overnight via USPS for only 24 dollars anywhere in the Continental US....

I'd keep him, but I already have 5 1/2 cats...

#2 in Dallas

Best Care In The World.

Most Qualified Personnel/Most Highly trained staff.

Top Men.....Top. Best in the world on this issue. Really.

"Breach of Protocol."

So despite the best equipment and the best training, someone apparently made a mistake and contacted Ebola. I feel very sorry for her.

One might have thought that with all the resources available this could have been prevented...Of course, had  Mr. Duncan not come from Liberia without screening........

And, of course, had the CDC not lost sight of it's mission and spent the budget investigating domestic violence and workplace injuries and glowball warming and such, they might have been able to put together a cohesive, non PC response...

So I'm at the bank

And all the tellers are wearing pink (very pink) scarves.

So I asked..."what is up with the pink scarves?"

"Breast cancer awareness" was the reply. "We are all doing our part".

"Oh"  I replied "me too"

"What are YOU doing for Breast cancer"?

"I'm offering free exams". I replied holding up both hands.

Dude behind me passed an entire Starbucks Vente latte through his left nostril.

Awesome customer service:

So a year or so ago, our Sears garage door opener died (after literally 40 years of service)....Since this is our primary means of entry and egress from the house (we seldom use the front door) we had to purchase a new one, and after a bit of research, we chose a Chamberlain opener that Home Depot had on sale. Battery backup (not that big of a deal, but hey, the price was right) and the ability to check on the status of the door and open or close it over the internet, using a smartfone (a bigger deal, as I tend to forget whether I closed the door or not and often turned around on the way to work to make sure).

We liked the feature, and used it often....then MC got a new phone and I found out that I had, foolishly, forgotten to write down the logon and password....and for some strange reason, the Chamberlain system failed to recognize my email in order to reset the password.

One call to the help desk was all it took. The woman there, using the caller ID feature, was able to identify me, and send me a new password via email....AND INSISTED THAT SHE STAY ON THE LINE WHILE I ENTERD IT and made sure that the new password worked.... Then called me today to make sure that I had had no issues entering the new password into MC's new phone and that everything was working.

This is a lot better than I expected. I really expected to get "Peggy" from Indonesia with an accent that was hard to understand or Achmed from Pakistan or something...but I got a real American sounding person who was pleasant and easily understood..... Who followed up to make sure that I was happy and satisfied.

Now, I expect that this door opener will last a few years, but I also know that when I buy another one, I will certainly look at Chamberlain first.

They coninue to have the opportunity to cheat

At the polls.

Why do our court justices not see the fact that an ID is required to function in this society today....but accept the lie that the requirement of an ID to vote is somehow a burden?

Food for thought

HERE

More of this

No more "professional qualified immunity".

Especially in cases like THIS. At last the courts are putting limits on behavior....

Even more incompetence

By the CDC:

Deputy who had contact with Dallas"Patient Zero" hospitalized with possible Ebola symptoms

Now, this is likely a false alarm. Then again, WHY WASN"T THE CDC paying attention to ANYONE who was in contact with patient zero--Mr Duncan (who, BTW, died earlier Wed AM). I mean, monitoring several times a day for fever and other symptoms....Why did he go to a "quick care" facility instead of a hospital? (And why, when he visited the partement of Duncan, wasn't he given at least a mask and gloves?).

Again, this MIGHT (probably is) a false alarm. But again, this illustrates the casualness that the CDC and the Texas and Dallas Health departments are treating this.

(and BTW, despite the "best care in the world" Mr Duncan died....Think about that).

Seriously, if I were in the Dallas area, I'd be gettin worried about now. The whole handling of this entire incident seems like an opening storyline from a book like "The Stand" or a movie like "Outbreak". (or How to Enable a Pandemic in 6 Easy Steps...)

But,as Tam points out, at this point the odds of you or I contracting Ebola are fairly small... But the more I learn about the response by the CDC (and others who SHOULD know better) the higher I think those chances get.

Book Review:

The Gray Man: Payback

An excellent story. A page turner. I was hard pressed to put the copy I had down (I was a beta reader for him as he is my friend).

If you haven't read Vingettes, then you need to read that first.

This is a continuation of the story....and one that ends badly for those who screw with the family and friends of John Cronin. The details are there, of both rifle shooting and pistol shooting. The character development is excellent, and, for a while, you live his story.

I'd hate to be his enemy...

Read 'em both. You won't be disappointed.

I am waiting for volume 3.....

If you would

Think a good thought for my brother. He has to do the right thing for an friend of 17 years today.....

He's hurtin'.

Thanks

A day at the range:

Except that I have my priorities totally screwed up, and I did the adult thing and did pre-winter chores all weekend.

So total rounds downrange---zero.

I am feeling the lack.

It's all good: (and other stuff)

So if the CDC (that is, the Centers for Disease Control) can totally drop the ball on a single case of open border foolishness ebola,  then perhaps we need a shakeup of their management....and perhaps a redefinition of their primary responsibility....maybe they oughta stop telling us about our (un)healthy lifestyles global warming and such and concentrate on, you know, DISEASE...since they apparently have forgotten their primary mission....See, I am not much for government agencies, and think most of our Federal government should be disbanded....but the CDC might just be one of the agencies that have merit....if they'd do their job.

Their response was, well, let us be kind and say it was suboptimal. I'm not a doctor (although I have played one, but that is another post) and I can easily see that they basically fucked up by the numbers. Both the CDC and Dallas and Texas Health departments. Yeah, once they got rolling and the news media got to reporting it, the authorities began (or maybe it simply took that long to get rolling) to act, but their response wasn't timely at all....Thing is, we don't have the ability to deal with this disease if and when it gains a foothold here. Yes, we have great healthcare. I got that. But not for something like this. We have neither the people nor the facilities with which to deal with a major epidemic....

Which is why our borders are our only real protection, and why failing to properly screen or quarantine people entering from ebola affected areas is so important and must be fixed.

(part of me wonders how many cases there have been in European countries which we haven't heard about? If one could get here, it is just as easy, actually easier, to get to Europe, as most routes go from Africa to Europe to the US....)

Seriously...if this case in Dallas does not demonstrate WHY we need better Customs and Border Controls, then nothing will.

This one case may well spread to others....It may be contained, it may not. We shall know more in another 20+ days...if it is contained, then we, as a nation, will be lucky. If not, well, we shall see how bad it gets. Patient Zero (Dallas) may well have infected others on his route from Liberia through Brussels through Dulles, and then to Dallas.....Lots of people who had contact with him when he may or may not have been contagious. And contact with the airplane and airport furniture after he had been there and maybe contaminated those surfaces...... and if he is dying and in critical condition on 10/1 then he was sick enough to be contagious on the 9/22.

And if we end up with 20 cases, or a hundred, WE REALLY DON'T HAVE THE FACILITIES TO DEAL WITH THAT MANY PATIENTS .

Maybe we were lucky this time. Maybe. But keeping such people out of our country is the only way to prevent a worse "Next time".

Everything is fine......The government has said so...

There, don't you feel better?

If you don't have preps...facemasks, gloves, faceshields, something to cover your exterior and to sterilize surfaces and hands with, then you might want to perhaps plan, SOON, on finding some....'cause your government is doing dick-all to keep you safe. I'm not saying that the time to panic is here, but if there is a second or third patient with ebola, you won't find anything to use at all.

This weekend, Home Depot and Menards in my area ran out of N-95 facemasks and tyvek suits....They are up 4000% at Amazon...(I already had a stock of both in my preps) ...Some folks think that there will be a need.....
Let us hope they are wrong.

Fer an extra fity bucks, the kitty doesn't have to die

So I am at work .....I hear this terrible crying from outside. Sounds like a kitten in distress.

I go outside. Sure enough there is a 4-8 week old kitten in the bushes. Frightened and when it sees me, it hisses and backs up into the corner.

Hmmm. Wonder where it came from???
No houses around..Maybe momma cat stashed it in the bushes. I decide to leave it for a while and see what happens.

2 hours later, kitty is still there and it is beginning to rain.

Hell....Dammit.

Ok, I reach into the bushes and grab kitty by the scruff of the neck.

Turns out it isn't helpless and that it is faster than a striking snake.....It turns its little head and bites my thumb.... and again.... and again.
I almost dropped the ungrateful little thing.
But instead, I carried it inside and put it in the office bathroom. I ended up with11 bites. One in the meat of my thumb. I let all the punctures bleed for a few minutes until they begin to clot, then pour 70% isopropyl on them to clean and disinfect as best I can....I mean, I thought I might get a scratch, but not bites....certainly not 11. (yeah, I got my ass kicked by a 1 lb kitten.....)

"Rabies?" said I to myself? "Feral kitten...could be rabies." Now the only test I know of for rabies is hard on the animal, as it requires samples of brain tissue....it is a destructive test, if you get my drift. Then again, I don't want rabies. My understanding is that it is a bad way to go, although I hear the hallucinations are great just before you kick off....

So I call the local county animal control office. No help. Not even interested. Couldn't care less and couldn't have any less knowledge as to procedure...They will have someone call me back. Maybe..... Might even be today....Suggest I call Public Health Department.  I give them my name and number and hope that I will get a call back. I mean, you couldn't find a less caring more incompetent bunch if you dragged people of the street....Patronage employment in Lake County Indiana has destroyed every government office. One might have thought that the ANIMAL CONTROL folks might have some idea as to what to do for an animal.....but no...  In the meantime, since I have a good 20 year relationship with my vet (I have 5.35 cats currently) I call them:

"Yeah, likely in a kitten you don't have anything to worry about. But best to have it tested..." is the opinion..... I enquired about the method of testing and yes, it is hard on the cat. The alternative is 10 days of quarantine and an examination. Which runs about $260. How much is the brain type rabies test? I ask... $215.

In the meantime the County Board of Health calls me and wants to know what I am going to do.....Have to fill out a report.... HAVE to have the animal tested or owner verified. (I was tempted to tell them that I lost the cat and it ran away....). This is the help I got from the Animal Control folks...they called the Board of Health...Procedure, you know. The Health people's only concern is that I could have rabies (and who suggested I look out for infection and maybe get a Tetanus shot....)

So, I went home, got a cat carrier (and leather welding gloves!), crated the kitty (who was not happy about the whole thing but couldn't get through the gloves) and took the little spiteful feral kitten to the vet for quarantine. hey, what's an extra fifty or so? The test now HAS to be done, as the County is now informed (I, foolishly, woke the beast). The County Health folks apparently did a reverse lookup and knew my home address from my cell phone number and will fine me if I don't fill out a report. Not like they are helping with the cat either....Or the test...... Somehow I ended up being responsible for the frikkin test.  No owner, so I am the responsible party...and the fine is "not less than $250...I should have told 'em I lost the thing and taken my chances with rabies....

So...in 10 days we know if I have rabies...and now I gotta find a home for this little kitten (which is worth $260....)

Anybody need a cat? A feisty one?

Still available

And so far at a decent price....

Coveralls.

While they last and all that.

Remember, the whole thing about prepping is to PREP. Note the the root of the word...PRE, meaning BEFORE.

Just sayin'

Y'know...

If this whole Ebola in Dallas thing didn't have some SERIOUS possible consequences it would be laughable.

The inept emergency room folks on the 26th

The inept handling of the situation by both Texas/Dallas Public health and the CDC. (what, exactly, are they doing with all the money we spend in them, if they cannot react well to a single instance of a communicable disease?)

The fact that only today, 5 days later, are they doing any sort of disinfecting of the areas where Mr. Duncan vomited in the public spaces outside of the apartment where he was visiting....

This whole thing reads like an implausible scenario of a 1970's disaster.horror flick.

Except it isn't one. It is real....and there are people in charge who are inept enough to let things happen like this..,. I mean, I realize they are government workers, but still, shouldn't we expect them to have some idea what to do....? Isn't thre someone in charge who knows something?

Scary...and angering that the folks who should have known better and have known what to do.....didn't. They couldn't even send someone out to the apartment sidewalks with some bleach water and a Hudson sprayer to disinfect....they let a work crew PRESSURE WASH the sidewalk....possibly aerosoliszing the infectious residue...

Like a bad book....First there was one...then 6, then 25, then...

Screen shot 2014-10-02 at 8.08.57 PM

The above illustrates the ineptness of the folks in Dallas.  Note: It isn't a steam cleaner, but a pressure washer.

Better late than never..

Happy Birthday Jimmeh!

I never thouht that the DNC could find anyone incompetent enough to make YOU look good, but they did.

More to the Ebola in Dallas story

You should read this.

If true, then Duncan KNEW he was exposed to Ebola....and he willfully exposed others.

If there is a nightmare scenario for the spread of a disease, this is it. Read the link. It is scary that he KNEW he had been exposed and selfishly decided to come here....exposing others to a DEADLY disease in his travels

His actions are, IMO, criminal.

If others die from this, here is the US or from exposure to him in any of the planes or airports, he should be tried for murder.

The scary part is that if he could do what he did, then others may as well.

I would like to see travellers from Africa in general quarantined until the outbreak is contained.

Apparently, you have to be smarter than Broccoli

to wok as an emergency room doctor in Hawaii...

unlike Dallas....

They don't know if he has Ebola, or what he might have.....
He is sick.
He came from africa.
They are treating it as if it were Ebola until they know otherwise.

Smart, those doctors in Hawaii.

It occurs to me

That if Kalifornia were to get rid of all the illegal immigrants that it provides sanctuary for, then they'd likely not have to enact water restrictions due to the 4 year drought.

How many illegals? Seriously. Do you think that those folks will pay any attention to the water restrictions? Obey the laws?

But simply getting rid of all those illegals would reduce the water usage by millions of gallons a day.

This is funny

As anything you'll watch today

HERE.

Be aware that it is only sorta SFW.

Nuttin' to see here folks....move along.

About 25 people had somewhat close contact with the Dude in Dallas who brought Ebola here. One person is in "close monitor" as are the three paramedics who transported Patient Zero.

So. Far.

Apparently he had some kind of contact with about 20 others, including 5 or so school age kids.

Plus, of course, the folks on the airplane and in the airport.

Nuttin' to see here folks....move along. Nothing to worry about.

If you are of a mind to prepare, buy safety glasses, alcohol and bleach and gloves. Trash bags too, so you can improvise protective gear for caregivers.

Facemasks.

Soap.

plus, of course, food and water and such. And your adult beverage of choice....

Doubt if it spreads too far, but since no one is monitoring the people who enter this country (legally or not....) then it can happen again.

And the Doctors in Dallas apparently weren't too bright......Dude informed the emergency room folks on his FIRST visit that he HAD BEEN TO LIBERIA and was "sent home with antibiotics"...

Scary, isn't it? Medical professionals dropped the ball that badly: "On September 26, he sought treatment at the hospital after becoming ill but was sent home with a prescription for antibiotics. Two days later, he was admitted with more critical symptoms, after requiring an ambulance ride to the hospital."

And the ambulance "has been disinfected " and is back in service. Howdja like to find out you'd been transported in that carriage?

We shall see how things progress. On the one hand, they claim that if you aren't showing symptoms, you aren't infectious...on the other had, everyone who was in contact with Patient Zero is supposed to stay home and out of contact with others for 21 days....Hmmm....why, if they aren't infectious until symptomatic?

"There is nothing to fear about Ebola in the United States".

Right.

Tuesday, September 30, 2014

How many?

How many people were exposed to him on his route from LIBERIA TO TEXAS?

A patient in a Dallas hospital has been confirmed to have the deadly Ebola virus

How many on the planes, how many on the public transportation he may ahve used...How many did he pass in the street.....Waiting outside of the emergency room?

Now apparently Ebola isn't that easy to get. Maybe. But it is not something to ignore. A man came into the United States with it. From literally the other side of the world. Carried a deadly disease. Nothing stopped him from re-entering the country.

Think about the implications there. He flew from a country where the disease is rampant and yet there were no barriers to his entry into this country.

Scary.

Got facemasks and gloves? Hand sanitizer?

If not, get 'em soon before the rush.

'Cause if there is a second case found, there won't be any available.

So it came up in conversation....

as part of that conversation, the statement was made to me that "You don't like cops".

I was, to be honest, a bit surprised...."But look at what you post!", they said.

For the record:
I neither like nor dislike cops. I think that they do a really tough job, and some of it is dealing with terribly nasty and ugly people. And for those who DO THEIR JOB WELL (which, for the record, I believe is a majority of cops) I have a great deal of respect.

However, I am very critical of men and women who have life or death powers, who have arrest powers, who can literally shoot you or me and be excused for their actions, who do their job poorly, or who have a bad attitude about those citizens (note: Cops too are citizens) whom they police. I dislike and am critical about policemen (and women, but from this point I will use the all encompassing "Policemen" as representing all genders) who are abusive of the powers they are granted as EMPLOYEES of our society. They are not lords over the rest of us, nor should they be given special treatment just because they are police. In fact, I strongly believe that they should be held to a HIGHER standard of behavior simply because of the job they do and the powers that they are given. Further, should they break laws, they should be punished to a greater level that those other citizens who they police...simply because they have violated the trust we as a society place in them.

I believe that too many policemen are unsuited for the job, being psychologically unable to wield the power they have in a benign manner. Too many are bullies, either as their normal psychological profile or from just plain job fatigue. Either way, cops shouldn't be, or act like, bullies. I know they train cops today that "If you aren't in control, you are under control", but they don't have to act like assholes in every interaction.

Here is a bit of advice for cops:

I believe that respect is earned, and that unless all police hold each other to a high standard (rather than make excuses for their fellow officers' bad behavior, as happens so often) that the respect that police officers need and want will never be forthcoming. Also, respect begets respect, and if you knock on a door or come to a car and act like an arrogant ass, you'll be treated like one more often than not. (and yes, it does work both ways, I understand that...but clamping down hard in every interaction with normal citizens just makes us mad, does not generate fear, and especially does not generate respect) Police men and women need to police their own ranks strenuously FIRST, with as much (if not more) vigor than they do the rest of the society they watch. How I interact with the next cop will likely be a result of how my previous interactions with police went.

Policemen are peace officers....not soldiers. Yes, there are situations which require that they act like soldiers, but not everyday, and not in every encounter. Wanna be treated with respect? Dress like a cop, not door-kicker in a place like Kabul or Falujah. Yes, wear protective gear, but DON"T LOOK LIKE A SOLDIER! LOOK LIKE A COP. Dump the Tactical Tommy look, especially the black uniform with the silver badges.... especially when you are on patrol.  Everyone you meet isn't planning on killing you. Yes, you need to be careful, but.......

If you are so afraid that each stop you make is going to result in your death that you treat each and every traffic stop as if there were guns poking out of the car windows....then you need to find another profession. Yes, being a cop is dangerous, and you should be careful...and believe it or not, I too want you to come home after every shift to you family safe and sound....but really. Approaching each stop and every citizen you interact with with fear and treating them as if they each were a killer like John Dillinger is both insulting to us and bit frightening as well. Relax a bit. We aren't all recently escaped from prison. If you are that afraid, then find another job. Seriously.

Remember, the people you interact with aren't all criminals.... don't treat everyone you meet like that 3rd time loser you saw yesterday. We aren't all on drugs, aren't all thieves, and we aren't all recently paroled. Yes, I realize that many of the folks you interact with are like that, but not all of us are. Some of us haven't committed any crimes. Threatening to "run my sheet" just makes me angry, or amused, depending, as I have no "sheet". Treating me as if I were recently paroled just makes me angry. Threatening me with arrest because I am not compliant enough makes me angry enough to make a complaint.

Remember that pesky Constitution. Yes, it gets in your way sometimes. But it is what stands between US and being a Banana Republic. Respect it. Deal with the limitations if puts upon you and your job. If you can't accept that, or find it too inconvenient and are willing to ignore it, then you are in the wrong profession.

Be ethical in how you treat people. Yes, I understand that you are busy, and frustrated and tired. I understand that it has been a long week....and that you pulled a double...Still. Treat us well. We are, after all, the folks you chose to serve. Be nice and respectful and professional. It will help with some of us. Don't cut corners. Here is a hint: If you want us to do something, explain why, if possible. Don't bark orders. I don't work for you and am not under your power.  Ask.  Politely.  You'll find that most of us will cooperate. You can always go to being an asshole, but it is hard to back up from that once you've gone there. Try nice first...Remember, we aren't subject to your orders.

Pay attention to the above, and for those of us that aren't bad guys or troublemakers, you'll have a more pleasant interaction, as will we. Less stress for both of us. More respect for you.

Try it. You'll be pleasantly surprised most of the time.

Must have been visiting Columbian hookers....

'Cause the Secret Service bodyguards who were SUPPOSED to be guarding the white house appeared to be asleep at the switch.

I mean, dude not only climbed the fence (I've been there... and if I remember correctly, it isn't a small nor easily scalable fence) but ran about 75 yards to the **UNLOCKED** doors.....then ran inside and "overpowered" the female Secret Service agent inside the building.....Because SHE wasn't alerted due to a "Muted" alarm inside the doors...

WTF? Just phoning it in there, folks? My understanding is that there are rooftop snipers on each face of the building.....and even if they are just observers, not snipers, climbing the fence takes time, running 70+ yards takes time...and the door being unlocked? The alarm muted?

Why bother? If you can fail that badly as a team, then really, why bother to even show for work?

I thought it was only in Chicago

Where the dead often are reanimated at election time ...

But apparently it is happening everywhere.

Not just Africa, with Ebola victims, but Now Greece as well:

"Cancer victim came back to life".

Now, this is probably bullshit, but coupled with the other incidents one might begin to wonder.

Headshots. Practice your headshots.

Why I carry # 439

 Religion and Beheading attacks?

Seems that the guy who attacked his coworkers in Oklahoma (and coincidentally )DECAPITATED a front office worker WAS A RECENTLY CONVERTED MUSLIM who had tried to convert his coworkers....

Now it COULD be that he simply wanted to kill people and  in the doing so accidentally decapitated a woman in the violence attack. Maybe. But I doubt it.

Muslim.
Beheaded.

Of course, the press doesn't seem to be able to show that the guy who ended the attack was a CCW holder, (and where they are admitting it, they are downplaying it heavily and calling his a deputy....He WAS a Reserve Deputy, but was just a CCW holder in a private workplace in this instance)

Time to practice

Your headshots
(but don't use too much ammo!!! You might need it!)

Ebola patients "Rise from the dead".

(Not that I think we have to worry, but still....)

Y'all take a minute

and go to Og's site and give him some support.

He needs it today.

He and Mrs. Og are some tough-as-nails people, but this sort of thing will hurt anyone. My prayers are with them.

You either understand, or you don't.

It is sad that their lives are so short.

Jesus H tapdancing

Keeryst on roller skates!

Yesterday was a doozy. A real big one.

Today doesn't look any better. What with contractors, repairmen, Alarm specialists, Calls to the telephone switch folks, remediation/restoration "specialists", phone calls to schedule more, (and I still haven't heard from the insurance adjuster) It was a real fun day.

Today don't look much better either.

Yes, posting has suffered. Life is like that. Gotta deal with my livelihood first.

Talking ot an older man today

ANd he pointed out that when he was young, a newspaper only cost a nickle, rather than the $2.00 it is today.

I replied that today, the newspaper is still only worth a nickle.....

He agreed.

A cop who gets it.

There is a lot more in this article than just the militarization of the police, but at least one cop has figured out why they aren't seen as the good guys anymore.....

If you have cop friends, you should show this to them. Might make 'em understand.

If they care, that is.....Many won't.

Power grab:

Are you aware that the EPA has defied the Supreme Court and intends to institute new regulations that make it possible for them to claim jurisdiction over nearly and body of water and nearly any land that has water on it, over which water flows...even water is only flowing over it sometimes (like a drainage ditch during heavy rains)? Even water that runs into a storm sewer (because it eventually ends up in some kind of waterway), so is therefore part of the "navigable Waterways"

That this ruling would allow them to define what improvements a landowner could do to their own property...if said property or improvements are within 500 feet of any land that ever has or once did or might have in the future water flowing over it.....A homeowner could not build a deck or a building, or even a sandbox, or remove a tree or dig a hole without permission and a permit and permission from the EPA.

A farmer could not use water in a lake (that he owns and which is entirely on his property) to irrigate or to water cattle....even if the lake or pond was built expressly for that purpose....no matter how long it has been in existence.

That the EPA defines very broadly what "Navigable Waters" are...to include that shallow 4" deep stream that runs across your property only during the wetter months?

Better pay attention and call your congressmen and senators and get them to stop the EPA...While you still have some control over your land.

The EPA says that they will not be "Heavy Handed" in their  enforcement of these new rules......but their history says otherwise. Once the rule (and the power for the EPA) is in place, how long before they change their enforcement levels and methods? Remember, they now have their own highly mobile SWAT team.....

"The program began with good intentions but now, having failed in both purpose and execution, it should be abolished."

So assert John Yoder and Brad Cates, Directors of the Justice Dept asset forfeiture office in the 80's.

Basically, like every government plan, program, or initiative, it gets bastardized and fails due to Mission Creep and other factors until it ceases to do the job that it was designed to do.

Utter failure, really

Just wait....the Government isn't done with you yet.....
