Market price
So a bunch of some folks in the greater Houston area are all upset that prices for food, water, gasoline etc have gone up in price.....Hotel rooms too.....
"Gouging" .
Fuck That. Pricing for motel rooms has ALWAYS been a market based thing. Trust me, much of the time the property makes very little profit as a motel during the week. Weekend pricing/special event pricing is ALWAYS higher
Gasoline? Ever notice that that pricing varies weekend to weekday and then is even higher on special holidays? Labor day? Memorial day? Independence day? Yep, Market Based Pricing.
Same with some food items.
Same with....surprise! Plywood in an area about to be impacted by a hurricane.
Snow shovels after a blizzard.
No discounts on generators after an ice storm.
But folks are angry because some dude is selling his hotel rooms, in an area where folks are willing to pay a LOT right now for a dry bed and a hot shower, for a higher price. Don't wanna pay $300 per night for that dry bed and a private room to shower in? Don't. No one is forcing you to do so. You can stay in a shelter with other displaced folks and be treated like cattle FOR FREE... I will bet that the dude is having to clean rooms himself or pay (or house and feed his staff and their families ) a lot to get staff to clean rooms and operate his motel for those guests.
Or the guy who owns a gas station has decided that his gas is worth $10/gallon. He's likely having issues with his staff 'cause they are flooded too....But he is open. Hey, it is his gas. Don't like the price? Don't buy it.
Bottled water for $75 per case? Go find your own clean drinking water. You could have stockpiled a couple of cases that would be fine (and cheaper) if you'd bother to prep a bit ahead. The store owner has it, and it is his to sell at whatever price he chooses to sell it for. Don't like the price? Buy it somewhere else. Or next time, learn from this lesson and stock a few cases of water at your home. (Or buy a Berkey water filter so you can purify your own).
Either way, if you need it (or want it, in the case of a motel room or gasoline), and someone has it, then you can either pay their price or choose not to. If their price is too high, then no one will purchase it, and they will have to lower it. IF someone will pay it, then that is the market price. When I own something it is I who chooses at what price to sell it. Not the buyer, and certainly not the Government.
Complaining about "gouging" is just whining because you were too fucking stupid to prep or plan properly.

Cannot understand:
I cannot understand the thought processes of people who, even when faced with the wrath of Mother Nature (for which they maybe, perhaps, might have tried to prepare a little) Can abandon their pets.
My household pets are like family....
I'd put them down before I would abandon them. Anything else is cruel and heartless. Leave your pet in a flood? At best it drowns quickly. At worst, it starves slowly. Leaving your pets to this fate is inhumane.
All those who did so are unworthy of their animals love.

question:
So, folks who should have evacuated in Houston and surrounding areas didn't. Foolish, as we know what hurricanes do in that area, lots of history, so the areas that are now flooded have flooded before. No surprises, really.
Yes, this was pretty serious rain. But.
My question is this: The "Cajun Navy" came to help people stranded and in need of rescue. They are, as far as I can tell composed nearly exclusively of white men. And, as far as I can see, they are rescuing folks without regard to the color of their skin, gender (real and perceived and identified) economic status, immigration status, etc.
It also appears that the other rescuers are nearly all men, and mostly white.
Where is Black Lives Matter in this? Are they doing any organized effort to help? Or are they only good for violent protests where the cops are held back? Are THEY rescuing anyone? Even Black People? Or is that up to those hated white folks?
Same with Antifa....Are they helping in any way?
Yeah, didn't think so.

'Tis odd:
Today, I REALLY missed my dog. She's been gone 5 years and a bit. Yet today, Oddly, for a few very hard minutes, it was like the day she passed.
Odd.
Sometimes I think I should find another dog. Then there are moments like today, and I dunno.
Odd.

Range time Saturday.
But not shooting. A couple of us got together and moved some dirt to fix a drainage issue.
Since this was to be a cool and dry day (overcast in the LOW 70's...in August!) we did a spur of the moment work party. 2 small tractors and a few folks with shovels installing some very much needed drainage conduit.
Fixing the range not only for ourselves, but for others to come.
Plus, it was fun.
But boy, am I sore this morning. I can drive the tractor and the little backhoe ok, but driving the shovel I am not used to anymore.
I was tired when we finished.
As we were packing up, one young member arrived with his 6 year old son to do a bit of shooting. Watching Dad with the kid ringing 6" gongs at 15 yards with a .22 pistol (the kid was doing about 70% BTW) made the work and the sweat all worthwhile.

But hey, it's a statue of a white guy
So we MUST tear it down or damage it.
I mean, Statue. White guy. Bad. Right?
Except this was a guy who died 78 years BEFORE the Civil War. But some jerkwad cut the head off the statue of Colonel Crawford. Even though he wasn't a Confederate.
"Oops, my bad". Said no vandal or Leftist ever.
If they find this guy, they should incarcerate him for vandalism, and castrate him so he doesn't pass his stupidity on to the next generation.

Sometimes the crowd gets it right:
Seems that (again) a Federal jury has failed to do the governments bidding convict some of the Bundy protesters that were at the Bundy Ranch Standoff.
They tried to convict, and even had their pet Judge give instructions regarding testimony that prevented a great deal of evidence.
Seems the jury saw through that. They chose not to convict on most charges despite the judge suppressing exculpatory testimony and other evidence.
"The current jury deliberated four full days after more than 20 days of testimony. The six men and six women returned no verdicts on four charges against Parker — assault on a federal officer, threatening a federal officer and two related counts of use of a firearm — and also hung on charges of assault on a federal officer and brandishing a firearm against Drexler. Navarro declared a mistrial on those counts."
So why do the Federal Officers get to brandish firearms towards a crowd, but the crowd doesn't get to brandish back? (I think you should NEVER point a firearms at anyone you are't immediately ready to shoot dead right there, mind you) but there was a great deal of video, and I spoke to people I trust who were there, that claim the Federal contractors in Federal uniforms did the pointing first. Why aren't they on trial as well?
Anyway, they have lost twice, but the Feds have a great deal of money and a lot of attorneys and I would bet that they will try again until they win.
But this is, indeed, a win for the forces of freedom.

Read this....if you use Android or Google services. You might be surprised.
I had most activity turned off, but still....
Amazing how much Google knows about you. And kinda scary.
Thanks to Commander Zero

Info bleg:
So Google has apparently begun terminating all google services to people whose work or writing they deem "offensive" with no recourse and no appeal.
I use Gmail as my primary contact method for email, mainly because it works well on my Android phone.
I also have a Yahoo account, but that app has never been as clean and seamless as Gmail, and Yahoo itself may well be bankrupt soon, so I cannot depend on that either......
Can anyone suggest an Email service that has easy access from Android, that isn't incredibly expensive, and that won't terminate me of services because I am not Politically Correct...
Seriously, If Google shuts down my blog, well, then no one is really hurt. But if I lose my (current) Gmail account, I am totally screwed. I think I'd like another account that I won't get cancelled on for non correct thoughts and all.
Anyone got suggestions?
Hat Tip to Angry Mike (see here is another way to give credit to the blog that you saw a certain article on....Is there a different way they do it in Texas?)
ETA (6 AM 8/23) apparently I am not the only one who has noticed Googles's actions

And now I need a new financial institution:
JP Morgan Chase (Or at least the CEO, James Dimon ) has decided Virtue Signalling is more important then keeping customers. I guess he wants to look good to his guests at his next cocktail party.
I have a not insubstantial amount of money in my retirement funds through JPMC. Now I have to find someone else to handle those accounts for me. Sad, they've been handling my money for 15 years.
They chose to take sides. If they'd have just shut up and chosen NOT to take sides......Lots of firms can place trades for stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. I would expect better from JPMC. They are supposed to be professional bankers and investment experts, not Social Justice Warriors.
Anti-Defamation League? I sorta could have let that go. Maybe.
Southern Poverty Law Center? Nope. that is the one that makes me choose to leave. I won't give business to anyone who chooses to donate to them.....especially in such a public manner.
Sadly, this hurts my local representative, who has been excellent in giving advice to me and helping me to grow my money. And he is the one that has to push my complaint up the corporate ladder.
I refuse to Feed the Beast. They can use their money to support anyone they wish. I just will not give them any fees with which to do so.
Y'all are adults, and can make your own decisions. However, if you are customers of JPMC, then I would urge you to follow my example and make sure they know why.

FBI.... saving us from the FBI for a while now
Read this
“What the public should be looking at is the fact that the FBI gave our son the means to make this happen. He has no job, no money, no vehicle, and no driver’s license, due to the fact that he is schizophrenic and we; his parents do everything we can possible to keep him safe and functional….. He has suffered through countless serious full-blown schizophrenic delusional episodes and he has been put in numerous mental hospitals since he was 16 years old. The FBI came and picked him up from our home, they gave him a vehicle, gave him a fake bomb, and every means to make this happen none of which he had access to on his own.
There is a pattern. One that goes back many years.
Chances are, if there are three people looking at a conspiracy to commit violent acts or seditious acts, one of them is either an FBI agent or working for the FBI. In any group of conspirators, the guys who is most eager to make something happen is the likely Feeb or Feeb agent. If he knows someone who can get explosives, then fer sure he is the one...
Remember this.
Oh, and I found the above article HERE. (which is another way to give credit when you read some interesting article on another blog that you would like to post....And yes, again, you should know who you are....maybe they do things differently in that big state)

Corporate suicide:
So Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis tells supporters of Trump so "Shop Elsewhere".
Which is odd, as his company is a major sponsor in NASCAR, whose fans aren't generally that political, but who are, generally, supporters of conservatives and were a significant part of Trump's support......As are the RV folks, who are also a MAJOR part of Camping World's customers.
SJW Virtue Signalling doesn't mix well with business. I expect that about 80% of his customers will take his advice and will, indeed, shop elsewhere.
If you have any Camping World stock, I'd sell it ASAP. I expect they'll be auctioning the companys remains soon.

I bet her fellow officers are calling her 'Ma'm right now:
Via Ballseyes Bommers we get this story from the Daily Mail
Catalan police officer managed to shoot dead four of the five suspects using a handgun and saved partner
good shootin' there, Ma'm. I am impressed. Very.
In the unlikely event that I meet her, the beer is on me.
(and that, folks, for some other bloggers who apparently can't or won't give credit where credit is due, is how you post something you read on another blog and give credit for the source...You know who you are!)
ETA: Bearing Arms has an article that says "He" so I am not sure who is right....
either way, the beer is still on me.

Just so you don't forget:
Remember that 25 years ago was the day that that the US Marshalls killed Sammy Weaver and started the Ruby Ridge debacle (for there can be no other word) that led to the standoff and, eventually, the death of Vicki Weaver....
The fuckups (for there can be no nice way to describe the total incompetence that the whole, long involved mess that the ATF started, the US Marshall's Service screwed up even further, and the FBI folks totally failed to do any more than make much much worse) were epic and should have resulted in about 70 prosecutions of the assorted agents of the three agencies for malfeasance and incompetence and the resulting coverup...but no one was prosecuted, no one was demoted, forced to retire or in any meaningful way punished.
If you don't know the whole story, start here. Read THIS to see the discrepancies that the FBI (and other agencies) just papered over. (and the courts and "Justice" system let happen). READ THIS for a long, detailed (but, as far as I can determine, factually correct) account of the "incident".
The ATF, acting out of control and in a manner that was both unprofessional and incompetent caused this to happen. Then they called the US Marshals to act, who failed to investigate and simply acted...in what could well be called a rouge manner........causing the incident which led to the death of Sammy weaver and Marshall Dugan. They too needed help, so they called the FBI. Who again acted in a manner which exacerbated the situation. None of the agents ever questioned the reasons why a man who moved to the country to be left alone would act this way, they simply took the word of some incompetent ATF agents who wanted to cover their butts.....the Marshalls, once a Fed was killed, of course hid the fact that they too acted in a poor and unprofessional manner and called in the Feebs, who again, escalated things.
(Having worked with agents from all three agencies about 10 years ago, I can tell you that they hadn't gotten much better then. They are arrogant, are afraid only for their retirement, and lie, cheat and cover up their mistakes, often with the aid of other agent even those from other agencies. If one Fed says something, the others, even in other agencies, take it at face value, even though it may seem implausible. (yes, I've seen this firsthand).)
Randy Weaver got screwed by some ATF agents, then screwed again by (and lost his son to) some idiots who worked for the US Marshall's service. The the FBI took over and killed his wife. Because Feds.
I met Randy some years ago. His eyes were haunted and he is a broken man. I'm surprised he hasn't eaten his gun yet.
Your Government and the Justice Department at work. And your Government covered for them and LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT.
I highly doubt that there is any difference in any of those agencies today.

How can they pass this?
Illegal search, no trial, illegal seizure....
I expect the first to implement this will get sued, and rightly so. This is about as unconstitutional as it gets.
Oregon governor signs "Gun Confiscation" bill into law.
Now, it isn't exactly as the headline states, but it is pretty bad.
And judges who sign the orders should be sued by the folks who are affected by this illegal and unconstitutional order. ....then impeached

Yep Yep Yep.
You betcha there.
Everyone is a victim
I mean, really at what point do we say "get the fuck over it, it was in the past, deal with today....Grow the hell up" and just go forward?
Are black people gonna be eternal victims? I mean, Jewish folks don't forget, but they deal and go forward. We still tell Polish jokes...The Irish were hated by pretty much everyone in their day. WOP is still an insult to a person of Italian ancestry....The Chinese and Japanese were segregated 'cause the others just wanted them there since there were no longer slaves to exploit for labor....But not in MY backyard.
I can go on, ad nauseum, but at a certain point you either get it, or you should move to California, Oregon, or the NorthEast and stay the hell out of the South and the Midwest. Especially the South.
But please, shut the hell up.
WTF Is going on with blogger?

Bummer:
Jerry Lewis has passed.
Dude was pretty cool. Back in the late 90's he came to an MDA fundraiser which I was working. Pretty cool dude then, at least to me and the other volunteers, but I understand his rages were EPIC. I never saw that side of him. But you sure knew he was there, I can tell you that. Class act, at least in my book.
Whatever. The world is a lesser place without him.

Seems a judge got herself crosswize with the 5-0 for driving at TWICE the legal limit of BAC.
I sympathize.
Except she gets PROBATION and can continue to be a judge (Just not adjudicate DUI cases).
Ain't DUI a Felony? Can a Judge be a Felon? (Or more importantly, can a Felon be a Judge?)
I mean, one cannot be a Felon and carry a Firearm in most places. Or vote.

Yep.
You should show this to all your Liberal friends.
Make SURE they know the REAL truth about history before they tear down all those "offensive" statues and all those other things they deem "offensive".
And, oddly, from a Chicago newspaper.

62%
Yep, 62 percent feel that we should leave the damned Civil War monuments alone.
Surprisingly, even 44% of Black people feel that the Statues and Memorials should not be torn down or moved. (Page 11 for those who want to skip ahead and check my numbers)
But, since all you Liberal assholes (but I repeat myself here) think that we should have Mob Rule, then I guess that means that we who oppose illegal immigration can form a mob and chase all thoseundocumented workers illegal people who have crossed our borders without government out of town on a rail.....I mean, mob rules and all that, right? We are gonna put the rules of law on hold for a while, right? Law and order don't matter because of FEELINGS and OUTRAGE and Fairness and Insults and past history and more FEELINGS. and just because....right? The will of the majority doesn't matter, it is only the angriest and loudest, right? Can we chase Muslims out of the country because a Muslim is more likely to go all Jihadi on his fellow citizens? (doesn't matter what the truth is here, it is all about FEELINGS and RAGE, and perceptions, right?)
'Cause that is the world you are seeking, right? Mob rules? Hate of the moment? Selective, unreasoned and emotional outage ginned up by some speaker of dubious credentials and with only a portion of the truth?
(And, since we are opening that door, don't be surprised when the next black person or Mexican or Pakistani is lynched....'Cause Mob Rule is now acceptable again....and not only accepted, but OK and excusable....right?)
Do you really want to open that can of slimy, smelly, squirming worms?

Odd, and he's black too...
Charles Barkley doesn't give a flying fuck about the Confederate statues ....They haven't bothered him one iota. Never has. Never in his whole life has it been an issue for him.
Odd, that, He is so oppressed by our society.
And he isn't gonna waste his time on theNazis White Supremacists either.
Smart man, there.

I am told by folks down there
That stuff like milk, pop, beer, snack foods and, in one place, gasoline are in short supply in the greater Carbondale area....This despite the merchants slightly raising prices, stocking more, and arranging for extra deliveries of such items in advance in expectation of thousands of people arriving this weekend for the eclipse.
Apparently some folks are terribly upset that the merchants, private business all, failed to properly prepare for the event and have made their displeasure known, loudly.
Not everyone gets it.
If I still had stocks of milk and groceries and ice and beer and pop, I'd triple the prices for anyone who doesn't live in the community.

Proving, once again
What total fucking ignorant savages they are, the idiotic Mob which wants statues torn down because "Confederacy!", who have the historical knowledge of 4 year olds and who are also, apparently, illiterate, have trashed a statue of Joan of Arc with spray painted graffiti.
But then again, that seems to be the mold most Leftists made from, innit? Childish, emotional, whiney, immature, prone to outbursts, lacking self control, unwilling to educate themselves about the real issues, easily led and prone to mob action with poor impulse control....who were never properly spanked as children..... (I think that covers it....if I missed any other needed descriptions, please, let me know in comments)
'Cause we all know that Joan was really a great leader of the Confederacy......

Probably one of the poorer moves
Steve Bannon gone from the Trump team.
I find this disturbing because he was one of Trump's advisors who inspired confidence.
We shall see. I still think when we as a nation hired TheDonald we made the best of the bad choices we were presented. Donald still scares me less than the Pantsuit still does.

Interesting meme change:
So now it is a "Woman's Right to choose her own Reproductive Path". (using Government subsidized birth control and/or abortion)
Ok, I kinda get that. He body, her choice and all that.
But if that is the case, then she can't sue some dude for getting her pregnant either. He wants to choose his path too. And it is half his DNA.
(Yes, I am wearing my asbestos Underoos, Fire away)

This oughta turn out well
Group plans to tear down Confederate memorial in Houston.
Long way away from me (like an entire day's drive, 20+ hours), but I think If I were closer I'd be there, not to defend the Confederacy, but to defend the statue from vandalism....It is, after all, public property.
Especially since these folks are doing mob action. I hate that. Destruction of a symbol because of the "Hate Du Jour" is a Bad Idea.
It is, essentially, a symbolic Lynching.

So....
If we tear down every statue that someone finds offensive, change the name of every park that is named after someone whose past is not on the approved list,,burn all the history books that don't tell the currently approved story of the country's past, and essentially go Whole Hog PC to satisfy the people who are pushing this purge....
Will that affect one black person's future? Will it fix the problems in the black community? Deal with the cultural issues that keep many young black males from graduating, change the fact that great numbers of young black women have children BEFORE graduating, most black women raise their children without a father (or often leave them to be raised by their grandmothers...who are often unmarried themselves)....Will it keep the gang violence from happening in black neighborhoods? Will it keep the drug violence from the gangs from happening? Will it suddenly make the community HELP the police, instead of "I Din See Nuttin' "? Will it keep young blacks from going on rampages of fighting and orgies of stealing that makes every other race look at them suspiciously?
Will it help them find jobs that they cannot currently qualify for because those higher paying jobs require that one not have a criminal record and that you pass a drug screen? That you speak plain english?
Will pulling down all those statues fix any of that? Really? Will those issues change overnight because we banned the Confederate history, flag and monuments?
Will it right any of the wrongs that occurred 4 and 5 and 6 generations ago? Will it change any of the history?
WILL IT FIX ANYTHING?

Innit interesting:
How the Left and the Liberals (but I repeat myself) can only parrot the current meme and the current version of history?
No one can do any research. None of them can be be bothered to check if the current reason for the outrage of the day is actually accurate.
They just climb on that bandwagon and scream and hoot and REACT with the rest of the primates, secure in their belief that the crowd is always right. (or the State) and that their arbitrary and poorly thought out actions (if they are thought at all) will be justified.
It is no wonder that they are opposed by mature, right thinking folks.
Are they too blind or too stupid to see they are being led? Herded like cattle by those who would stir their emotions to gain? Like 3 year olds? One would expect that children could be easily led, but these are otherwise intelligent (if overly emotional) adults.
I find the reactions of some of my fellow citizens to be scary, in a "1984" sort of way

And we go to total foolishness:
Next up: Washington Memorial.
Sharpton wants the Thomas Jefferson Memorial to come down.
Watch the video at the bottom. It is telling.
(Notice how the death of the two Troopers in a helicopter accident is blamed on the protests (and notice how Sharpton is led to say the things Charlie Rose wants him to say))

10 people
Shot in Chicago last night.
Even a 16 year old shot in the head at 4 PM.
A very Urban neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago.
Guess those statues coming down didn't help.
Odd.
Just like making the Confederate Flag a hate symbol didn't fix things a few years ago...
Maybe it isn't the symbols that are the problem?

Food for thought:
(It was supposed to be fiction)
“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”
― George Orwell, "1984"

Here's another hint for you folks:
Pulling down some statue isn't gonna make your life better.
Making good decisions will.
Don't have a record before you are 16. Girls, don't get pregnant before marriage. Do your kids a favor and only have kids with someone who can be a father Do yourself a favor and finsh high school first.
Be able to pass a drug test.
Learn to speak decent english. If you are white it will help. If you are a minority, and can pair that with passing a drug test, you can go far. Add in a high school diploma and you will find a lot of places doing their best to hire you.
The above will do lightyears more to advance blacks in our society than tearing down a statue or renaming a street.
But it is hard to get a crowd of minorities to self reflect, innit?

They gonna charge her with a
'Hate Crime"?
I mean, it was racially motivated, right? Or does that only apply to white folks?
Police charge Takiyah Thompson in desecration of confederate memorial
Thompson said she helped take down the statue because she was tired of living in fear.
The monument was dedicated to “the boys in gray,” she said.
“It’s white supremacy. Plain and simple,” she said. “And it had to go”
Yeah, Ms Thompson, that's gonna fix all yer problems there.
I hope she rots in jail. And I hope they sue her for damages. Big money (although she likely has very little).

Like the Taliban:
Anyone remember the hue and cry when the Taliban dynamited the Buddhas of Bamiyan in Afghanistan in 2001?
Yeah, that is the same way I feel about you folks who want to tear down monuments here in the US just because you disagree with what YOU think they stand for.
Not just statues of Confederate Generals, but monuments to just plain old soldiers who ft for their homes. Few of them over had the wherewithal to own a slave. Just poor folks fighting for their homeland.
Yet you want to destroy 'em because to you, all things Confederate mean slave to your ignorant uneducated mind. Because some jackass whose knowledge you cannot judge says so.
I'm not from the South. Born and raised in the midwest. Yet your actions anger and disgust me.
Feel free to find someone from your culture's past that is worth raising a monument to. Gather enough donations and have a statue cast or a sculpture made. I will support space in a park for that, if you can find a figure worthy and can raise the cash.
(Hint: That is how those statues and monuments got there....people paid for 'em and donated them to the city or the park).
Otherwise you are no better than those seventh century savages in Afghanistan.

Yep, so peaceful and law abiding....
So a bunch of folks from the Charlottesville rally couldn't just go home. Antifa, anti Fascist, anti Nazi....
That peaceful and law abiding group took to the streets of Durham and pulled a monument to Confederate soldiers down.
Vandalism.
And, oddly, no police officer saw nothin', even though this took place at the courthouse.
No arrests were made.
Can I pull down statues of MLK and Malcolm X because I disagree with what they stood for? (Hint, I dislike Malcolm X but respect the REAL MLK, not what the current legend of him is....and I wouldn't be that disrespectful any monument).
But if we are gonna have open season on monuments that some folks dislike.....
In related news:
Illinois hates Illinois nazis

When Black people get together and preach hate towards cops and whites, the politicians are silent. They are, oddly, even silent when there is violence and vandalism.
Yet when whites get together (such as in Charlotte VA) and protest, the politicians can't wait to trample each other to condemn such free speech.
Look: I dislike hate speech, from any source. But if we are gonna condemn such speech, then let us condemn ALL such speech. I do think that speech is a protected right, and if you are I don't like it, then that is too bad. Even "Hate" speech is a protected right.
But if we are gonna condemn some "hate" speech, then let's be consistent, and condemn all speech wherein some portion of our population complains about and wishes death or damage to another portion.
If you were silent when the Antifa protests turned violent, then you have no reason to speak now, unless you are a hypocrite.

On this day....
in 1981, IBM introduced it's first true PC (personal Computer). There had been others before it, but this one became a standard....and began the revolution that led to the hardware you are likely reading this page on today.
Open standards let this machine have lots of third party support,in both hardware and software, leading to a revolution in computing in offices and, eventually, homes. ...which led to the expansion of the DarpaNet and eventually the internet and WorldWideWeb.....
They were expensive: $1,565 (in 1981 dollars...$4200 dollars today) would got you 16K of RAM, a 4.77 MHz CPU, and DOS 1.0....and cassette port. The single sided 5.25 inch floppy disk drive was optional, as was the 1 meg hard drive (available later).
This was the first step towards the world we know today...

Bad engineering
So, I got 3k miles on the new truck. Dodge Ram with the big Cummins diesel.
At 3k, I thought I'd change the oil and filter. Get the gasket edges and other shit that is trapped in the filter and all the assembly lube and other contaminants out of the crankcase and such. Fresh clean oil and a new filter make for a happy engine and all that....
I get 3 gallons of synthetic oil. (yeah, that is a lot of oil, but it is only changed every 15000 miles) a filter and the Geno's oil filter cap off tool....because the idiots at Dodge made no arrangements for an easy oil filter change. (On my old Dodge Truck, an '03, one slid under the truck, used a filter wrench like this and simply turned the oil filter off the truck....it dropped right down after being unscrewed. Nothing in the way... Took less than 30 seconds.
On this new truck, one must get to the oil filter from the wheeelwell and drop the filter to the A-arm, then put the cap on it, rotate it 90 degrees, and pull it out. Then fill the new filter, put the cap on it, put it back in the little space in the wheelwell, turn it upright, remove the cap, carefully put it up to the filter housing and screw it in. You can only see the bottom third of the filter so the replacement is all by feel.
Now this is difficult, but not hard.
Unless the oil filter was out on about 4 turns too tightly at the factory....likely by a gorilla. I had to use 2 oil filter wrenches to get it to turn that first two turns. And the filter was wrinkling enough that I was worried that it was gonna tear.
We won't talk about the fact that I had to use a wrench on a wrench to get the oil plug to turn the first turn. Again, factory torqued to "11". It was so tight that the plug was distorting the steel oil pan before it finally turned. (I was wondering if it was gonna tear out of the pan, actually).
On would think that the engineers could do better. The alternative is removing the entire air cleaner (8 bolts, 2 clips and some push in fasteners, plus two large hose clamps). One would have thought that for a $65,000 truck they could do a remote oil filter or something.
Now that I have done it, the filter is correctly tightened, and the oil pan plug is properly snug. Neither are OVERtightened. It won't be so bad next time. But a bit of decent engineering could ahve made it less bad.
I do have to say that the Geno's Garage tool is pretty nice, and a solution to a problem that shouldn't be there in the first place.

Next time, officer: WARRANT
So ICE tries to enter a restaurant to find a (supposed) illegal that works there.
Owner tells 'em to pound sand.
Armed ICE agents show up to search Michigan restaurant, owner refuses entry
Look: I am all for getting illegals to leave the country. All for hiring our citizens, not some other countries citizens.
All for the Rule of law, too.
I LOVE the fact that these officers were told to come back with a warrant though.

Army denies City Democrats DEMANDS to rename streets named for Confederates at Hamilton Army Base
Enough is enough. I'm glad someone finally had the balls to say "no".

except....
There is really no opioid epidemic.
There are still folks who die from overdoses, yes.
But the rate is ~20/100000 or something like that. In the last 16 years, more than 183,000 Americans have died from overdoses related to prescription opioids. A bit over 10,000 per year.....out of 326,709,838 people in the US.
Darwin at work, I say.

But the rate is ~20/100000 or something like that. In the last 16 years, more than 183,000 Americans have died from overdoses related to prescription opioids. A bit over 10,000 per year.....out of 326,709,838 people in the US.
Darwin at work, I say.
I doubt it amounts to much....
But Mazda claims they have developed the HCCI engine to a workable unit.
We shall see. It has been around for years. A diesel like engine that uses gasoline instead. The HCCI ( homogeneous charge compression ignition) engine has been a dream for many years. Sadly, it has failed even when attempted by Toyota and Honda....
And I predict now that it will NEVER meet emissions specs for the US unless someone comes to their senses at the EPA. They won't budge on NOX, and that is what makes diesels fail. (And modern diesels are cleaner in almost every respect than gasoline, and provide better than 35% mileage gains over gasoline, leaving even fewer of those pesky carbon compounds that (supposedly) cause (mythical) glowball warmenating).
But hey, it is a nice dream, if the EPA will let it pass and won't pull a Volkswagen or a Dodge on them.....

The State:
Go HERE. Follow the link(s).
This is why I hate the idea of STATE. The idea that the State is always the arbiter of my (and your) fate. Why I don't trust the State. It is composed of people. People are imperfect. Sometimes they LIE in order to do the State's work. .
And the State protects it's minions.
Even to the Absurd.

It could be
That no one cares..
Or that, after all the doomsayers predictions haven't come true ("The Sky Is Falling .....or, it will be tomorrow...or the day after that, maybe") No one believes 'em anymore.
Or maybe they see him for the FRAUD he is....
Either way, AlGore's new movie has BOMBED at the box office. Totally. Laid an enormous egg. Crashed and Burned. Augured in. Down in Flames.
Tryin' Not to laugh here, Boss.

Curiosity touched down on Mars....
And has been sending data back ever since.
5 years.
on a planned 2 year lifetime and mission.
For once, we got our money's worth from a Government project. (and NASA, at that!).

Climate data changes:
It would seem that there is a nefarious plot to make the climate data (in particular temperature data) look more like the Glowball Warming model than reality does.
In particular, it is reported that the temperature data in Australia is being manipulated by either raising the recorded high (and especially lows) or erasing the lowest of the lows altogether, leaving a temperature record that shows (what else?) a planet that is ever hotter....Even though the truth is just the opposite. Changing the data at the source of the measurement....
But the fact is that there isn't any money to be made telling everyone "Oops, our bad, nothing to see here, all is well....There is no Glowball Warmenating, we aren't all gonna die this year, and the earth won't flood". So these Climate "scientists" have to make something up to get further funding.
In other words, there is no climate change, so they gotta lie.
Anyone surprised?
Someone tell Borepatch.

(AKA) It would seem that
Loretta Lynch is also Elizabeth Carlisle.
ETA: It is said that she was using an outside email address to get past the FOIA and government recordkeeping laws to do nefarious things via email.

There is no possibility of voter fraud:
Except that in 11 counties in California there are more voters than voting aged citizens.
and, of course, California refuses to give the Trump organization the voter data they asked for to combat voter fraud....
I can't wait until they check out Cook County in Illinois and most of Baltimore and Detroit....
(and St Louis, and 'Nawlins and......)

Suing for fraud:
Republican donor, Bob Heghmann, from Virginia Beach sues GOP, accusing the party of fraud over failed Obamacare repeal.
I'd say he has a case, really.
I'd say he has a case, really.
Uh, Officer? That's not mine.....
The Laptop, I mean.
Debbie Wasserman-Schultz now says the laptop...the one she fought (and actually sued the police about) to keep from being examined)....and threatened "consequences" if it wasn't returned immediately .........Isn't hers.... It belongs to Imran Awan...the IT staffer who she failed to fire even though he was under investigation....Who was later arrested trying to flee the country to Pakistan.
Wonder what he has on her??? (or other DNC types).

Glowball warming my asss
Or "Climate Change" or whatever they are calling it this week:
Today, near Chicago, it is:
55 degrees at 8 AM. At the start of August.
And the thing is, it isn't a record low.
AlGore can kiss my ass.

There is still time
The eclipse isn't until Aug 21.
You need these (or something like it) to see the eclipse safely.
Hurry, while supplies last.
ETA: All gone

Huh. I wonder if it is true?
I can't find anything to back this up.
But:
In March, Comey and McCabe Blocked the Arrest of Imran Awan’s Wife As She Was Fleeing the Country to Pakistan
If this is true, then one wonders exactly what Imran Awan knew and how many people did it encompass?
(And, to be honest, it is from a source I don't know and cannot independently verify, so I really don't know).
Interestin' though, innit?
ETA:
Then, of course, there is the fact that Comey just got a MULTI-MILLION dollar book deal.
HMMMM.
Of course, he might, knowing all that he does, meet Vince Foster soon.

Little help here?
So all if my (ahem) water cans have been painted yellow and have had vents installed so that instead of using CARB approved no spill/glug-glug/take forever to empty through the (non) self venting spout that is self sealing to prevent leaks so that I can actually, you know, fill the tank in the tractor or the Ram pickup with (simulated) diesel and not take 30 minutes per 5 gallon can.....
Does anyone have a source for old fashioned (non CARB/EPA/AlGore approved) Jerry Cans in either steel or plastic? Or a reasonable facsimile? I'm talking NATO style cans that one can attach the spout to in 15 seconds, invert and empty into a suitable container in about another 45?
I really dislike having to label all of my blue "Water" jugs (they actually have a stamping that says "potable water" that is, of course now covered with yellow paint and another message).
Please advise. I need about 6 of them, if possible.
Cause the EPA has totally screwed Gasoline cans, and Diesel cans are the same clusterfuck of bad engineering and ergonomics, only in yellow instead of red.
