On the first: It'll never happen until AFTER the election. Then it will be a fight in congress....Depends on how the House and senate come down.
And on the second: For all you folks talking about how we have to elect Mittens to keep conservatives on the Supreme Court...Who appointed Scalia?
It's gonna come down to either use 'em or lose 'em. If you think you'll hide 'em or bury 'em until "the time is right".....The day you decide to hide 'em is the day you should decide to use 'em.
If you are behind the curve and haven't bought any ammo for a stockpile, you have a few months left, but you'll pay dearly for the failure to stock up months and/or years ago when it was cheap.
Me: I think I'll just stock up on more primers and powder....and other such things while they are still unregulated.
I'm not the first to say it, but I doubt that I'll be the last.
They will never stop trying.

Mobs:
What are ya gonna do?
Too many of them.
The press will cucify you if you do anything to an ethnic minority...How do you defend against this?
Allow only white people in the store? And them only 2 at a time? Racist.
I'm not so sure that I'd have locked the door though. Not sure I want to be inside the cage with these animals.
This is coming to every "blue" city sooner rather than later.
Chicago is just bluer than most.....And slightly ahead of the curve....

Barry didn't call me back again
So it seems that Fridays just aren't my day.
I get home from work about 4:30 pm on Friday.
Clean my pockets of assorted stuff, disarm, etc. take the dog out for a bit of exercise and to do her business.
At 4:43 pm, I get a call from the chick who owns the lawn mowing business. Good news: she is insured.....
Bad news. She hit a rock with the mower and tossed it into the back door. Broke the window...
On a Friday night.
No one around here has a board-up business that will come down on a Friday evening. Who you gonna call?
Yeah, I thought so. Barry's folks at the White House switchboard were once again less than helpful. I left a message, but he hasn't called me back, not has anyone else from the government.
Guess who disappointed his lady and didn't grill her the wonderful t-bone she had been promised...with thin sliced mushrooms sauteed in bacon fat and butter with onions just slightly carmelized...Served with a baked potato with cheese and butter... and fresh green beans? With ice cream for dessert....
Yeah, she didn't get that, 'cause I had to go back to my business and make the door safe and securable for the evening. Clean up the glass so no one could get hurt, so I didn't get sued in case some asshole was wandering around with naked feet or something after dark or whatever and I left a hazardous area.... So we decided to support Chick-Fil-A instead since by then it was 7:30 after we had cleaned up the mess and made the door secure and safe. So another 14 hour day. And another disappointing evening for my girlfriend. And more time spent making my business run.
But I didn't build that. Nope, not me.
Fuck you, Barry.

6000 rounds....Seriously?
So what? I reload about one and a half times that many .223/.308/.45ACP /9mm/38special/.357 (and, for Midwest Chick, twice that in .380) yearly. I purchase nearly half that many every year to replace the brass I wear out.
Each.
Not counting low volume calibers like 45-70 or 7.5 Swiss or others like that. Plus we purchase .22 by the brick. Most of it goes into a backstop after punching a hole in some paper.
I just took delivery of 5000 .45ACP 230g jacketed round nose bullets. Waiting on my gun club to get some more primers in so I can reload them into cases I already have prepped.
So what? The shooter in Aurora didn't use all 6000 rounds he had anyway. But the press and the anti-gun folks (but I repeat myself) are decrying the fact that he purchased that many rounds online. Big deal over nothing, really. But it is a way to make their argument against ammunition sales.
How many rounds did he get off? 50?
My rifles and pistols haven't killed anyone. Those rounds haven't magically moved from the ammo cans to the magazines, nor into the chambers of the firearms.
These "rounds" purchased online didn't do that in Aurora Colorado either. They were, actually, pretty inert.
The guns didn't magically point themselves at people and fire either. They didn't hurt anyone....
Until they were used by the perpetrator to punch holes in people rather than into paper.
This dude would have/could have used bombs if he hadn't had access to firearms. Off the top of my head I can think of at least 6 types of things I can make from items at a Wall Mart, Target. Lowes or Home Depot. And I could purchase items usable as shrapnel there as well, And containers for the devices. But I won't. I don't wish to hurt anyone. If I knew someone was buying those items for that reason, I'd do something to stop them.
Yet I hear no outcry to ban those items (you'll have to guess, I ain't putting any recipes out on the internet). There are How Many? chemists and chemical engineers in this country? Most could do a better job than me at finding good recipes for such things. But they don't either.
And I have no plans to do anyone any harm...nor do those other folks who know how to but choose not to.
Take a pickup truck, load bricks or stone or concrete into it drive into a crowd and you can hurt many people too. The heavier it is the more damage you can do. So what? I see no waiting periods for, or limitations on who can buy, heavy automobiles. Nor on horsepower. No calls for bans on big trucks nor weight limitations.
The thing is, if someone wants to hurt people, they can. And no laws will prevent it.
Ever.
Deal with it. Avoid places which make you a victim/target. Keep your guard up. Have a plan to bail out if needed. Leave early if things look wrong. Avoid the rush. There are Bad People out there. Expect it.
Hope you are elsewhere when/if.
But be ready "when".

Y'know.....
It occurs to me, what with the plethora of foiled terror plots that were really one FBI informant encouraging another FBI informant to do something nasty....and one government LEO agency encouraging another federal agency's undercover agent to enter into a conspiracy...See also Huttaree militia in MI and others in the west....
Was this another conspiracy, much like Fast and Furious, that just got out of hand?
Was this guy in Aurora CO encouraged by some three letter federal Law Enforcement Agency and then perhaps not stopped in time or abandoned without any followup?
Stranger things have happened, and the veracity and competence of our current federal LEOs is becoming ....laughably obvious.
Alternatively, if you have your tinfoil hat on shiny side out, is it possible that someone encouraged him to do what he did just so that they could push for more gun control?
Sadly, and disturbingly, I cannot discount any of the above with the people in charge right now. I'd like to believe that out sworn officers would not participate in such a thing... and allow people to get killed just to influence public opinion.....but recent history (Fast and Furious and others) has shown that it is not outside the realm of possibility. As is the coverup once things go southward. We might never know....

Anaheim Ca.
Looks like an excellent reason for the second amendment.
It seems the citizens have reason to believe that the police are out of control.
Maybe they are, and maybe they aren't. But they certainly seem heavy handed.
But again, like the battle of Athens, there is a reason that the founders wanted their citizens armed,

interesting article:
"and its funny how when you go eat with cops, soldiers or other like-minded people they all want to sit in the same place."
Some stuff you might like to read on how to minimize your risks..
Most of this I already knew, and I practice a significant part of it every day whenever I leave the house. .
You can't be in condition red all of the time, but you can pay attention and plan for such things, which will give you a better chance than most folks.
Read, learn, and think.

But it is OUR votes
Kirsten Powers today, on Fox News, said the "this (Aurora Colorado shooting) is the fault of the NRA. " and "The NRA OWNS the Republican party and cows Most of the Democrats"
Really, Ms Powers? The NRA never elected anyone. It was the citizens of the United States who elected our politicians, be it Presidents (via the electoral college) the senators and representatives, and the local state level congressmen. The NRA is not allowed to cast a vote, only the members of that organization who are citizens.
If the members of the NRA look to that organization for information on those politicians before making their vote then that is too bad for folks like you. Few of the membership of the NRA vote in lockstep with any organization, but rather decide for themselves. Unlike SEIU members and others of their ilk, most of whom vote for whomever they are told to, most of the rest of us make up our own minds. If the protection of second Amendment rights are important to us and we choose accordingly, then that is our right.
If the senators, congressmen and other politicians fear the wrath of those voters who are second Amendment supporters, then that is a Good Thing from my perspective. It may be that there are enough other votes to counteract those citizens who express their opinion on the second via the ballot box . But obviously there are enough of us who vote that the politicians take note. The fact that the NRA is the single largest member organization regarding Second Amendment rights does mot make it powerful. It is, rather the members who do so.

Exactly:
This is why I carry everywhere I can legally do so. Exactly this.
Even when it is hassle, or I must change my wardrobe or endure some discomfort to carry concealed.
Exactly why.
My firearms may be a pain at times, and sometimes heavy on my belt.....
But it is much lighter than the burden of regret I would carry (for the rest of my life) if I weren't carrying my firearm when I needed it and had to watch helplessly as others were killed.

The timing is....INteresting
The Aurora Colorado movie theater tragedy incident happens just before the real debate over the UN arms treaty.
How convenient.
Coincidence? Maybe. Maybe not. You should decide for yourself. I am unsure.
I'm not trying to make light of this....It was, for everyone involved, a tragedy. But there are those who might think it is, and have a reasonable argument that it could be, a setup, a manchurian candidate type scenario. Sadly, I cannot dismiss this as fantasy.
These incidents do happen. And they may well be random (thankfully, the sample size is low), but there is, like with the whole Fast and Furious debacle, some interesting correlations with the wants and desires of the liberal and Statist party and the people who could make this happen to further their own agenda.
The sad fact is that it is not outside the realm of possibility that there are people in our government (in both parties) who would not have issues with killing 20+ people to influence public opinion.
Power corrupts. Absolute power....
I find it sad that I think that about those we choose to run our country. And frightening that I can believe that it is possible. Even sadder that we elect people who I could suspect would make such decisions.

They didn't help build that
So I work Friday 7 am to about 6 pm at my business. Pretty much a normal day.
I left and went home to cook dinner and then relax before bed. Went to bed about 11:15. (yeah, wild man on a Friday night and all that).
I was on-call until 8 AM Saturday (it is a 24/7/365 business). I get the call at 11:54 AM. Midnight person not gonna make it. Big issues, but the bottom line is that the owner/manager/etc has to go in. That would be me....
Lovely.
Get up, shake head, splash water on face, get dressed. enter car and begin the drive in. Call the 4-12 person, explain what is happening, on my way, and all that. Ask her to look up Whitehouse switchboard, 'cause I figure that Mr. Obama and his government who "helped me" build my business and who is taking credit for that should take the midnight with no sleep.
Tel for the switchboard is: 202-456-1414. Asked for Barry. Figured he could give me someone from the oh so helpful government to run the night shift....Maybe he could. Barry wasn't available.
Note: they have absolutely zero sense of humor at 1:07 AM DC time. I left a message, but Barry hasn't called me back.
So: 24 hours with 1 hour of sleep. It ain't as easy as it was when I was 18, I gotta tell ya.
But Barry and his gang slept, I am sure. And they didn't help either. Seems that if they are gonna take the credit, then they should take some of the load. Only fair.

Back when the country was proud.
(this was supposed to post Friday morning, but for some reason, it didn't)
What happened to the country which made this happen? Which had the properity to pay for the program, the will to make it happen and the educated intelligent capable people to do the work and the industry to build that machine to take those brave men to the moon and back?
Liberals took over , that is what happened.

Yeah, we built that
My parents built their business. Were very successful too.
Taught my brother and I how to build our own. Helped us get started as well..
My brother has taken their business and expanded it. Created jobs, generated income. Sales taxes. Property taxes. He's done a good job too, with the foundation that was laid. He's grown the business even in bad economic times. He's made it work through hard work and smarts.
Where my business is was once a farm field. Generated less than $150 per acre in property taxes. Zero jobs. Zero sales tax. Now it has a payroll of 16 people, part time..... $150K payroll. Not the best paying jobs, but jobs that didn't exist before. $11K in property taxes (6 acres). Sales tax revenue around $50K. Another part that I developed has become a restaurant. Pays about $4k in property taxes on 2 acres. The owner of that restaurant generates about $80K in payroll. Jobs that didn't exist 3 years ago. Sales taxes too. Those didn't exist 3 years ago either....We have paid for the roads we use. More so than most folks. We use little or no police...We haven't needed the fire department (thank God) so far. All of us have worked our asses off to make the businesses what they are.
Who took out the loans and the risk to build those businesses? Not you, Mr. Obama. Who took the risk to make it happen?
Yeah, tell me all about it, Mr. President. We work HARD for our businesses. Long hours, sometimes too long. Makes it hard to have a relationship sometimes. You do what you have to do when it needs to be done. I didn't ever see the government do much except get in the way for any of my family. Regulations, inspections, permits, more regulations, additional costs. More and higher taxes. The burden grows, but the benefits decline. You wouldn't know about that,'cause you've never worked, never generated income, never met a payroll, never created a job from nothing that wasn't paid for with other peoples money....
Until you have actually worked, you slimy little pissant, actually worked and made a business, then you have no say, you aren't allowed to have an opinion.
Your very words show that you are clueless.
And it pisses us off.
Go fuck yerself.
Good customer service
Since we all complain about BAD customer service, I thought I'd give Kudos where they are due regarding GOOD customer service. .
As I have posted before, I am a fan of the Laserlyte pistol caliber cartridge training devices.
I was pleased to see that they had the .380 sized device finally available, as I have several small pistols in that caliber. (I already have the .45ACP and the 9MM sizes for my other pistols).
Training with these is a joy. Once the initial investment is made, the cost is only for the batteries (Not an insignificant cost, I admit, but better than the cost of ammo). Even reloading, the increased cost of powder, primers (even purchased through my gun club, which is wholesale +10%) and the bullets, has somewhat curtailed my shooting at the range. Add in the increased demands on my time, and even a range which is only 10 minutes away becomes a burden to go to, especially when the heat is high.
Enter the Laserlyte training cartridge: always handy, right there when you want to practice. I shoot at the end of the hallway to the other end. (15 feet). I practice my draw and shoot, my trigger squeeze, and my instinctive aiming as well as standard target style shooting. I find that without continued practice, my instinctive aimed shots tend to be low. With practice, I tend to keep them where they need to be. It's all in the trigger, especially with double action only autos. It is not a replacement for range time, but it does help keep those perishable skills from fading as quickly. I like the cartridge specific units as when they are in the chamber, it is impossible to chamber a live round. (You do have to use a pencil or other rod to push the laser out of the chamber when you are through). I do wish that there was some sort of flag or other indicator when the device is in the chamber to reassure me that I don't have a live round.....I tend to check, double check and then check again. A flag or other indicator would be nice....But I digredss from the point of this story:
When Amazon had the .380 trainer on sale, I purchased one to go along with my other calibers.
With Prime, I had my new toy in 2 days. It arrived Monday.
Sadly, it wouldn't chamber. In any of the 4 pistols I tried it in. I even disassembled the Micro-Max and tried placing it in the end of the barrel, with no slide or other obstructions (the laser trainer is a bit longer than a standard cartridge)...no go. wouldn't even push into the chamber/barrel with two thumbs. .
I called Laserlyte. The first person I talked to suggested that my pistols were somehow defective. When I pointed out that all 4 would have to be defective, she turned me over to a supervisor. This lady apologized, said that they had had some issues with the .380 size, and offered to send me a new one. I accepted with the promise to return the defective item.
Today, (Wednesday) I received my new laser trainer. With a prepaid envelope to send the old one back. They took me at my word that I would do so....AND THEY HAD NO PROOF THAT I HAD EVER PURCHASED ONE FROM AMAZON. I called with an issue, and they made it right, no questions asked. No proof of purchase, nothing.
I am, actually, impressed.
I like their products, and I have to say that their customer service (even if for a known issue) was very good.
I am a fan of their products (if you don't have one, think about getting one in the caliber of your carry piece....practice practice practice!). Now I am a fan of their customer service.

Amen, Brother
Word.
Enough already.
Never happen. And we, unlike nearly every other country, have the means as citizens to change it even if it were to happen.

"What one person receives without
working, another person must work without receiving".
Think about this next time you approve
of someone getting handouts/EBT/Welfare/rent subsidies/Medicaid, etc.

interesting commentary
about the banks, and their political connection and how they (and their managers) get away with fraud, and the ongoing fraud regarding bullion (or paper certificates representing bullion).
Scary. makes me want to take my money out of banks and put it in a mason jar buried in the back yard. At least it won't go anywhere that way.....

Danger! Will Robinson, Danger!
Or not...
So there is a large CME coming to us some time Saturday morning
Likely, it'll just give pretty lights in the sky farther south than normal.
Then again it could cause some issues: “A G2 level storm can cause some power fluctuations that may set off some voltage alarms for power companies,”
Or it might be a fizzle...
Depends on who you listen to.
But really, are you prepared if the lights go out? Can ya live without all the things that electricity does for you? Water, AC, refrigeration, lights, etc? Got cash for when the ATMs are dark?
What are ya gonna do when yer beer is warm? Yer food is spoiled? and your house is hot (or cold, depending on the season)?
Got a plan? Got preps?
If yer reading this after 9 AM Saturday, then this one was a fizzle. But the next one?

One of these days
This is going to happen to a dog where the homeowner is armed and not cowed by the police.
And then all hell is gonna break loose...Great steaming piles of shitstorm, if you know what I mean.
We don't know what was going through the officers mind, and we don't know what he thought was happening. But really, this happens too often.
My grief would happen in the jail cell, after everything else had gone down... If I survived the incident. But I'm sure I'd pay the ferryman's fee first.
This is a tragedy for all involved. But officers need to be sure they are being attacked before using deadly force, even against an animal. That is the rule that I am held to, by law, why not them?

No blood, no foul:
Since there are no charges against Thomas Piatek, he should have his property returned.
And the state (and the Feds) coughed up all of the firearms and ammo that they had confiscated.
While I don't think that he is a stellar example of an Indiana gun owner, he is still a citizen of the US and should be treated accordingly, now that the charges are dropped.
And I am glad to see that he has been.
Not sure what happened to his dogs though.

Negligence, plain and simple.
Dude should be charged with Negligent Homicide. But he's a cop.
Likely, alcohol was involved.
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/07/08/detroit-woman-killed-when-hug-triggers-officer-gun-police-say/?intcmp=obnetwork
Alternatively, his story is bullshit and it is murder. Which is, IMO, much more likely.
Either way, he should be charged. Guns never "just go off".
Being Detroit, it was likely a GLOCK, but still....
If it were anyone but a policeofficerman, charges would have already been laid, and the person would be in jail for some sort of homicide.

Interesting
We went to concert in Chicago last night (Friday).
The crowd was predominantly white (like 99.78%), mostly people from 30-60 years in age.
For the United Center, the level of security personnel was normal. This level of vigilance was, however, a massive overkill, as the crowd was very well behaved. There were zero fights, zero drunken incidents, zero shouting.... zero issues of any kind. No pushing, shoving, stampeding, trampling, etc.
People were polite, helped the infirm or wheelchair bound, and were generally civilized.
One wonders if it was the economic level, the culture of the attendees, or the racial mix, or a portion of each which led to that behavior.
It did, however, make for a peaceful, relaxed (if boring) wait for the start of the concert.

Yet the rest of the border
is wide open.......
It is a good thing that the Customs and Border Patrol is doing their job. In fact, I applaud their vigilance.
But really, when5 10 20 miles away, tens of thousands (or more) of people enter the country with no oversight every year, are they really doing anything useful besides asserting their authority?
Apparently, the USCBP were professional and polite, but maybe if they left their comfy border crossing they would find other things to interest them.
But it is probably safer to stick to checking out old men rather than people crossing illegally.

If yer reading this
Then you likely fit the criteria to be a potential terrorist.
Jesus H. Tapdancin' Christ. Can't they do any better than that?
Fully half of the country trips 3 or more of the indicators.
I must make their indicator light up like a pinball machine. Or a Vegas sign.

Y'know, I am tired of people referring to this holiday as the "4th of July"....That is, indeed, the date....It is Independence Day, you friggin' morons! Do you wish someone a "Merry Dec 25th"?
But the holiday, the event that we are supposed to remember, the significance of the date, is that of the Declaration of Independence. That is the date where the leaders of the fledgling country which would one day become the United States as we know it chose to sign the Declaration and declare themselves no longer the subjects of the King. The date wherein they pledged their "Lives, Fortunes, and Sacred Honor." The day that they basically told the king to stick it up his ass, as they were no longer subject to his authority or his laws.
This isn't a day for fireworks, nor one for barbecues, or 5K footraces, nor special sales at the outlet mall, nor just a paid day off (or double time or whatever for those who have to work). This is a day commemorating the courage, strength and just plain guts of those folks who Declared their INDEPENDENCE from any other authority.
I'd like to force every person in this country to take the time to READ the full text of the declaration. Force them to understand the reasons that the people decided to remove themselves from the authority of the king of England and his rules, laws and taxes. But can't and won't. If they choose to do so, then they can. Most won't. Most don't care.
However, I wonder what the signers of the declaration would think of us today. Would they spit upon us for allowing our government to do the very things which made them decide to throw off the yoke of oppression which the King had placed upon them? I think they would indeed find us lacking and make their displeasure known in such a manner.
Here are some of the things which they point out in the Declaration:
HE has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public Good.
HE has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers.
FOR imposing Taxes on us without our Consent
Read the whole list of complaints.
How many are applicable to the government we have today? Both the President and Congress?
I'm not calling for another revolution, but I wouldn't necessarily be disappointed if there was one, either.
But take the time today, in between your barbecue, and your parade and your fireworks, and your trip to the mall. Take just 5 minutes and think about what this day really is for, what all the celebrations are actually celebrating. Take the time to thank those folks who had the balls to stand up to a king, and pledge their lives, fortunes and honor. Some actually gave their lives and their fortunes to the cause.
Now go enjoy your day off.

It seems appropriate
On Independence Day, to suggest this as an appropriate place for you to send any spare money you have lying around.
Holsters for Heroes seems like a worthwhile cause.
Sponsor a holster for a serving soldier or Marine. I am.
I think it is a Good Thing. Let 'em know that we care.
I can tell you that Michael makes excellent holsters. He has made 3 for me, and 1 for MC (and an awesome knife sheath/holster for her as well.). He'll likely make more for us too, as the need arises.
In fact, I am evaluating the (slightly customized) Clipper holster he made for me. (Currently breaking it in before doing a review) right now.....If I could convince him to take the time (he's like really overloaded with orders right now) I'd have him make me a custom recoil pad for the Sharps.
So, seriously, support yer troops.
Just a thought.

Thought:
It is said that Alcohol solves no problems.
However:
I have noticed that neither does Water.

Others are seeing
The final destruction of the America we once knew.
Even immigrants. Ya gotta feel sorry for him. He came here, and then the rules changed. It isn't the country he adopted any more than it is the country I was born to and learned to love.
Next stop, Europe. with a dash of the USSR.
Why do we let them destroy our Constitution? It is, really the only thing that separates the US from the rest of the world. Others have armies, some as dedicated as ours. Others have wealth, and productive citizens, same as us.
But no others have that document.
Soon we won't either.

Kin ya tell me
Where any of this is wrong?
'cause I fear that it isn't.
What happened to the republic that I was taught about in school?
Yeah, I know that it has been slowly eroding, chiseled away bit by bit by the liberals and the "Progressives". Probably has been that way since well before I was born.
But the country in which I was raised, which I came to believe so strongly for, which allowed me to take pride in the title "U.S. Citizen" has, in not so many years, disappeared. Roadblocks for hard working people, disincentives for folks to make money (and, generally not coincidentally, jobs for others). Fewer and fewer taxpaying citizens, more illegal immigrants and a whole lot more folks leeching off the rest of society....encouraged to do so by the same government which forcibly takes from the productive and gives to the non productive.
Now this. The outlandish ruling by the Supreme Court. That (once highly held, but no longer) bastion of "Right" and constitutionality. A ruling which gives great power to the federal (and eventually state and local) government. A ruling which upholds their power to coerce you to purchase goods and services and penalize you with a "tax" when you choose not to.
I would never advocate violence against those Justices. But I wouldn't be surprised if they should see some. They have turned traitor to their oaths. They have perverted their office. They have damaged the Constitution which they swore to uphold.
I truly know not what to do. Where to turn. Where to go. The liberals and Progressives appear to have won. What choice the US or Europe? Without the laws and rules and limits placed on government by the Constitution, what separates this country from all the rest?
Even if we legislatively get rid of the mismash called "Obamacare" the precedent is set. It will be used against the productive and free citizens of this country again. The Supreme Court ruling will stand forever and another chunk of the greatness of this country, chipped away, leaving the foundation damaged and the rest tottering will be the legacy.
I fear for my country, I fear for the countrymen who made this country the greatest and most productive in the world. I fear for the productive citizens who work hard today, but, like me, see no future. See no hope. See nowhere else to go. Nowhere to run to, to escape to. Nowhere to get away from those who would tear down rather than build up, who would take from those who do and give to those who don't. Who would damage their country in doing so.
Sometimes I wish that our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers would have shot each socialist as they entered the country and burned the bodies in a great big pile weekly, instead of leaving us to deal with the festering pestilence that they have spread across this country.
