Yesterday

We went to the Nappannee gun show.

More crowded than I have ever seen it.

This is not your average retail gun show, but rather a collectors gunshow. Lots of classic old rifles (most still serviceable) and pistols... and a hunters show. You'll generally not find Evil Black Assault Rifles or plastic pistols here. You'll find primers and pistols and bullets and cases and powder, but not much ammo unless it is unusual or hard to find like .44 rimfire and such.

Lots of old scopes, most still serviceable.

Shotguns and parts by the ton.

If modern ammo is for sale, it is usually priced to sell as some guy is cleaning out his closet or something.

Not so yesterday. .22 525 bulf going for $70 a box. .223 (what little there was) was ging for $1-1.25 a round.

Not that anyone was buying it.

Happy Easter:

Please remember it isn't all about Easter eggs, Easter Baskets, Easter Bonnets and dresses.

It is, after all, a religious holiday.

And it has meaning.

Enjoy the day. But think.

If Obama had an aunt.....

Would she lie just like this one?

Or would his momma do it too?

My parents love me....they'd do everything to help me.

But lie in order to keep me from being arrested for killing a baby?

Nope.

They'd likely help me get a good attorney.

and that's all.

These "people" conspired to get a murderer off.

No wonder he turned out like he did.

It occurs to me

that my daily stress level would be greatly reduced were I not forced to restrain myself from grabbing the shirt of some of my customers (likely Obama voters from the shallow end of the gene pool) who feel that life is treating them badly (when the situation is generally of their own making) and stating:

"Listen, you whining little pissant JackNoodle!, life is sometimes unfair, Learn to deal with it like an adult".... or or words to that effect.

If only...

Can you imagine

The screaming and crying (and race baiting and charges of hate crimes) that the liberals and MSM (but I repeat myself) had the perpetrators of this terrible crime been white and the victim (an 18 month old baby) been black?

But you don't hear any of the screaming and crying and race baiting and such from the media with the criminals being black and the baby being white.....Do you?

I actually doubt that this was a race based crime. This was a mean pair of punks who did what they did out of pure spite. This was a pair of boys who are a product of the welfare system, likely raised without a father figure of any kind, who were animals. Race plays no part in this. Just bad parenting (or none at all).

2 boys killed another child with an illegally possessed gun. Period.

The rest of the community has begun to make this about race. And these choir boys (according to their mothers/grandmothers/aunts/etc.) didn't do anything wrong. (although, it should be noted that one aunt DID go to the police).

And by the way, adding anther law to the books to make these thugs possession of a pistol any more illegal wouldn't have helped here, now would it? 17 and 14 years old.

but you should do some research and see what the culture and community says about these animals.....and about things in general related to this incident.

The Facebook/MySpace and Twitter comments should disgust and frighten you, in that order.

Different rules

Interesting that after a major disaster, when gasoline and water and ice and food is in short supply, the local and state governments step in and put forth laws governing the pricing of such items, even though their scarcity and demand should be reflected in the price......

And as market rules would dictate, when pricing goes up, people buy less of that item, or don't buy any more than they need... Those who choose to hoard right now pay a higher price for a scarce item.

Yet no one but the market and the supply chain is regulating (or not) the price and availability of ammunition.

Strangely, the market is doing exactly what the formulae would suggest....or at least it reflects what I learned in my economics classes so long ago....Increased demand and a (relatively) inelastic supply leads to higher pricing...People buy less, or only as much as they need.

Range report, Sig-Sauer 1911-22

A few weeks ago, at the Valparaiso gun show, I found one of these.

End of the show and I knew the dealer so we exchanged some ever depreciating FRN's for the firearm. The next table over was selling the identical gun, only marked GSG, for $25.00 more, so we made a deal and he went home having sold out and my wallet was a bit lighter....

I'd been looking at  some way to make my practice be less expensive, and I was leaning towards a Ruger 22/45 as every other 1911-22 I had handled or shot had a trigger which felt as if the mating surfaces were made of broken rock paved with gravel...... Creep, stacking and grit. Not so this one.

No one had any 22/45's for comparison, and any way the balance on those wasn't perfect nor was the weight or the trigger the same. The Rugers really only share grip angle.

This firearm shares grip angle, exact ergonomics and weight. (empty).  Nice sharp, clean single action trigger. Magazine drops free like a magazine should. Trigger that is really decent out of the box. I'll see how it wears and if need be, I can take a stone to it. This is a full size 1911 replica, not a half or 3/4 size one like some of the .22's out there. Ergonomics almost exactly match my full size 1911's. Balance and weight is almost exactly the same as well.

The sights are standard 1911, although made of plastic... Adjustable for windage only.. They come with painted dots which are, frankly, a waste of time. The rear sight had to be adjusted to nearly it's full left position.

The magazine disconnect is an irritation, one I can live with, but I may see how hard it is to remove.  The trigger breaks cleanly at 5.2 lbs.

The pistol seems to like nearly any kind of .22LR. I shot Federal bulk, my go-to at the range (when it is available), and CCI Standard (the other go-to in our household). To be honest, I couldn't find any other .22 that I was willing to pay for. Both the Federal and the CCI fed and functioned flawlessly through 480 rounds (combined).

Accuracy at 50 feet with 10 shots was about 4.5" to 4.75" group size. The Federal bulk prints slightly high and the CCI Standard prints a bit low for the sight elevation. Below is one of the better targets:

Every target had a flyer...Dunno if it was me or the pistol. Probably me.

Gonna have to adjust the sights a bit more, but it'll do for now.

This is a decent substitute for training with a full size 1911. Even at the current cost of .22LR.

Didn't there used to be a death penalty for treason?

Didn't I read about this in the book

"The Stand"?

A vial containing a potentially harmful virus has gone missing from a laboratory at the University of Texas Medical Branch, officials said.
The missing vial, which contains less than a quarter of a teaspoon an infectious disease, had been stored in a locked freezer, designed to handle biological material safely, within the Galveston National Laboratory on UTMB's campus, officials said. During a routine internal inspection last week, UTMB officials realized one vial of a virus called Guanarito was not accounted for at the facility.

There is, of course, nothing to worry about.  No potential threat to the public or anything.

"Nothing to see here....Move along"

At least it isn't gonna create Zombies or anything.

Right?

Turn 'em in

We'll give you a reward.

Inform on your neighbors!! Especially Jews gun owners.

Didn't they try something like this in '29 and '30 in that place called Germany, just before the US and it's allies broke the country?

The historical parallels are scary.

I don't live in Colorado

And now, thanks to new (and, in my NSHO, stupid) legislation, I likely will not visit.

But were I Governor Hickenlooper, I'd remember the example set when his Director of Prisons apparently pissed off the wrong people/person enough that they chose to ignore the law....

I don't know Mr. Clements, nor do I (did I) wish him any ill. He likely didn't deserve what happened to him.

Having said that, perhaps his example will be a lesson to other officials of government.

Lampposts and rope and assembly and all that bit.

Just sayin'.

How many white house tours

Would THIS have paid for?  A million dollars for 2 nights in Paris? Biden likes spending your money almost as much as Obama...

I'll believe that there is a budget issue when they begin acting like it.

Otherwise I'll continue to believe that the White house just wants to make it hurt the little guy

A SMALL WIN

Hey, at least the Senate has shown SOME intelligence and not followed like lemmings in knee-jerk rection to a tragedy.

There is hope.

Seeds

Taught a First Steps Pistol course today.

11 people who weren't shooters. Now (hopefully) have the skills to begin to learn.

11 people.... who a year ago, many who even a few months ago, wouldn't have considered taking the time to learn this skill.

At least 9 totally new shooters. 7 soon to be gun owners. 1 already owned one, but had never shot hers

Truly, it is a rewarding experience.

I don't charge for my time, but sometimes after leaving the class range, I wonder if I should pay them for the happiness I feel.

And I swear, the more Obama and Feinstein talk, the more shooters they create.

So: A Question:

Since the DNC and their adherents can't seem to keep track of illegal aliens, and cannot keep them from crossing the border....

Just what makes them think that they will be able to track privately held and sold guns and and prevent people from smuggling them in to our country over that same border?

I mean, really.

Got money in the bank?

Think it is safe because it is FDIC insured?

That is what the depositors at the banks in Cyprus thought..

But the government of Cyprus and the EU masters and the IMF thought they had a better idea....

The people may not have allowed the theft bailout to happen, but the fact that it was even considered should frighten you.

The DNC types have been eyeing all that saved money here in the US for a long time. The retirement accounts especially.

Think about it.

A significantly large amount of cute

Baby owls.

HERE

So with Gun Control on the rocks

and the banners/gungrabbers/ Gun Control adherents all upset about their Failure to Launch anywhere except in New York....

I cannot help but wonder where the next tragedy including a gun, a mental patient (likely a Democrat, is there a connection?), and a crowded gun free zone will occur.

Gotta have blood for them to dance in, and gotta have dead bystanders (preferably kids) in order to have something for them to DO SOMETHING.  Kinda hard on the victims, but someone has to be sacrificed for the Greater Good.

How are they gonna get a chance to remove the rest of your rights if they can't get that pesky Second Amendment out of the way?

Malls and movie theaters didn't get the people riled up enough, there apparently weren't enough victims and apparently a school full of Childrenz didn't do it either either....

Expect something soon. Try not to be where it happens.

You heard it here second.

Or you could stick to

Being conservative

Rather than trying to change your message.

Conservatives (who don't say stupid things, or things which the press can twist to make them look stupid) are generally elected, at least at the state level. Likely it'll be the same at the national level.

We don't know if Conservatism will work on a national level, because WE HAVEN'T TRIED TO FOR THE LAST FEW ELECTIONS. We have put forth a weasel, a wishy-washy mouthpiece, a RINO. An old man who no one believed in and a "conservative" from the East Coast. Truthfully, Romney as a Massachusetts "conservative" was less conservative than most "liberals" from the midwest....

If the RNC really wants to elect someone, then they need to recruit and support a true conservative. A man or woman who has morals, and standards, and who will appeal to the people who make this country work...who pay taxes and get the job done. Not a person who will appeal to the union robots faithful, not to the radical liberals (who won't vote for a republican anyway) and not to the inner city entitlement crowd (who know where their bread comes from).

Nope, give people a clear choice and many, if not most, of the middle 30-40% will vote for the conservative.

But we haven't given them anyone like that, have we?

They trot out the Rubios and the Cruzes and the Jindals at election time as spokesmen, but they don't encourage or support them to run for higher office. And until they do, they'll always lose.

And so will we.

things you learn, part 459.3 (&1/2)

Sunday afternoon, I learned:

If you take 1/8th (or less) of a one ounce tube of Never-Seize and let it loose in the bottom of your toolbox on your truck, then drive for a while.....

Said small amount of Never-Seize will then spread itself over each and every surface inside said toolbox...in the attempt to make itself one molecule thick. It even climbed up the sides of the box and the lid.

It took 3 cans of carburetor cleaner and 2 hours and untold rags to make the tools and the box somewhat clean.

Prep product:

You need some of this for your SHTF stash.

Gun control works down south.

No one gets killed by guns in Australia....they have gun control.

AND: Just in case you say the above is an aberration:

"Yesterday's killing marks the 35th shooting in NSW this year - more than three a week - with 10 this month alone."

Yep. Gun control worka.

Of course, it works in Chicago too.

Yer money is safe in the banks....

The government says so....

That's what these folks thought. Now they are getting a "one time" haircut of either 6.75% or 9.9% depending on how much money they have in their accounts.

More and more I think I'd rather have my savings in a vault in my home....

Maybe precious metals....Gold, silver, brass and lead.

Especially the last two....

Couldn't happen here in the US though.......COULD IT?

I keep hearing rumors that the DNC type folks are eyeing IRA's and 401 K's and such as their next cash cow.....

Time to call your senators again

Tell them NO to ANY new "gun control" legislation

Especially not Chuckie Schumer's S 374.

You can find your senator's numbers at the top left of this page.

This shows the real intent of these people. Dancing in the blood of innocents, they will take YOUR rights away. If we let them. They have allowed the mask to slip....Despite their words, you can know their intent by their actions.

Keep poking the bear, assholes. He isn't mean, but you don't want to rile him.

It's gonna get ugly.

Let us hope the ballot box and the soapbox work...the alternative is not a good one.

Seems that parts of Atlanta want to secede.

And you really can't blame them.

Decide

First they shoot you then they lie to you

Seems that the LAPD and it's officers (and leadership) can't even keep a promise to replace the truck that they shot up trying to kill Chris Dorner (even though the truck they shot up didn't resemble (other than having 4 tires and being shaped like a...you know, pickup, although smaller and a different color and such) the truck driven by him)

No mention on the Attempted Murder charges that are, somehow, missing from the whole equation.

One wonders when the lawsuit will come out. And for how much.

Ain't it

the truth?

While I would hate to be derogatory to the dedicated government workers, You gotta admit that THIS is fairly typical.

And yes, I do know that there are some dedicated, intelligent, hard working government employees.

I know all three of them.

Werd:

H/T 90 Miles From Tyranny

I'll be damned

It seems that there ARE limits to the Nanny State:

Judge invalidates New York City's ban on large sugary drinks; ban had been scheduled to take        effect tomorrow.

Judge says sugar drink limit "illegal"

Judge finds ban to be arbitrary and capricious.

I never thought our court system would stop it (or him). Or ever put limits on the Nannyism.

It is a start....

And we have never been at war with EastAsia

    Gunownership had declined:

    It says so right here

Of course, it could be just that the respondents chose not to admit having a firearm when called.

I mean, I always answer "No" when asked.

Strangely, several times, my entire firearms collection has been lost in tragic canoe accidents. Last time while I was driving to the range. The entire canoe-full fell into the creek and were lost forever. Tragic, I tell you.

    Or something.
    I can't really remember.

Short term memory loss and all that.

    So:

Tinfoil hat time again: But still.... Really.... Ask yourself this question:

Since we get stills from video on the news all the time....Bits and pieces of surveillance video from tragedies at least weekly...

Since the school (Sandy Hook Elementary) was apparently wired for sound and video....

Since there was video in the hallways, video in the entrance, etc...

Since any time anyone does nearly anything the news Media shows us a teasingly small bit, either in still pictures from the video or a snippet of the video itself...

WHY HAVEN'T WE SEEN ANYTHING ON ADAM LANZA on December 14th? Not ONE single still frame from the video....not even a half second of video.

Nor any from the day before, when he supposedly got into some sort of altercation at the school with 3 of the adults he subsequently killed..

    No video......Not even ONE frame.

    WHY?

Who are they protecting? Adam Lanza is (supposedly) dead...so this evidence isn't going to hinder the prosecution.

    So WHERE IS THE VIDEO?

How about a single photo of the school after the shooting? Inside or outside? A single bullet hole in a wall...a single bit of evidence? Evidence that this even happened?

    HMMMM?

    Quote of the day:

When the shoe is on the other hand...

Practice makes perfect...Remember: You won't rise to the occasion, your performance falls to the level of your training.

Let us see how they like the idea of proper training:

(And no, at this point I am not advocating the hunting of LEO....yet)

Bet the Police and Feebs won't like this idea...ATF either.

But the "Don't Hesitate" targets were ok...

Feel free to print these out and use them on the range.

    I will.

Good training....  Desensitivation and all that....

I mean, if the idea is a good one for Police training, it should apply to the rest of us too.....right?

You knew they'd go after him

Seems James O'Keefe pissed off enough people that they are doing everything they can to punish him...

If the press had bothered to do their job and give us....you know,,,,News instead of partisan political pap, then he'd not have had to do his wonderful interviews to show where your tax money was going and what the ACORN folks were doing with it.

Now, the powers that be are pulling out all the stops to get revenge.

I wonder if there is a legal defense fund or something set up somewhere.

I f each of us gave a single buck, his fine and attorney fees would disappear quickly.

    Friday, March 8, 2013

    Strange.....

They let all the others go unmolested:

    The inner city folks...
    The Organizing for America folks...
Anyone who had a tie to ACORN...
Nearly the entire 6th precinct in Philadelphia....

But THIS LADY they are going after....

    Sad, isn't it?

    Now this,

    THIS is funny.

Sadly though, I can see Barry doing a rant like this.

    Regarding the Alamo:

"When Jim Bowie's mother was informed of his death, she very calmly announced: "I'll wager no wounds were found in his back."

    Indeed.

189 defenders of the Alamo died this day 177 years ago. They took a full third of the attacking force with them"

Not a bad way, if you ask me. I'd rather go peacefully in my sleep, but if that isn't in the cards, then I'd rather go following their example.

    Ferryman's fee and all that.

The first 22 hours or so

    of no sleep ain't bad.

The next 9 start to suck.

    Then your brain goes dead.

    After that it gets interesting.

    Alamo Day 3/6

The (my) weird schedule nearly made me miss the remembering the men (and women) of the Alamo.

    3/6/1836.
    The Alamo fell.
All of the defenders were killed.

They delayed Santa Anna long enough to let the  Sam Houston and the other defenders get their shit together at San Jacinto.

All of the defenders at the Alamo were killed. Not a good way to go. But if it has to happen to me, I hope I go out as bravely as they. And for as good a cause.

Robert has a good story line on his blog. You should read it.

I have been to the Alamo, once. It is a fairly small place, and yet it has a spirit....a sacredness that reflects the residue of the courage and determination the defenders showed in their fight. It is a place that you will never forget visiting.

    Yep

    Exactly why.

Just wait until these folks are in charge of your health care.

How your schools are using your kids as a profit center

Seems that ALL of their data is for sale.

And without their (or their parent's) consent.

    Be aware.

    It occurs to me

That a significant portion (more than 10%) of the monies needed to fix the "sequester" could be found if we would just stop wasting our money on "Security Theater"

    Let us disband the TSA.

That saves something like 11 billion. At mo loss to anyone. No change in safety, and an increased throughput in the airports. Likely the productivity increase will add a LOT to our economy.

Add in the extra vehicular  purchases by DHS, and we are starting to talk real money.

    Interesting puzzle piece

Seems that the DHS is arming up their transportBig time upgrade to their toybox.

This will go along with their 1.6 billion cartridge purchase.

This is serious. folks. These aren't easy to disable or deal with. Resistant to most small arms fire.

DHS *MUST* be planning on using their new toys on something....or someone.

You and me? Violent retirees demanding their Social Security checks?  Ethnic urban minorities who will become angry when their EBT cards fail to work? Angry government workers who riot when their retirement is redone?

WHO? Who are they planning on using these against?

    ETA: Pissed found this first.

    ETA2:
I figure that they will be able to be blinded by paint,  mired in mud , snared with cables. After which they are vulnerable to fire.

    Just food for thought.

    If and when.

    Interesting perspective:

Three times since the first of the year I have met a new person, and in conversation, when the question of what they do comes up the answer has been:

I work as an auto worker, or as a union steelworker, or a union electrician. Each time I have asked what job they do for the union, but that isn't what they do. They are skilled trades, working for the corporations that pay their salary.

All three are paid by large corporations. Ford, in two instances, and Mittal in the other.

Yet they don't identify as employees of the corporations that pay their salary. They identify as working for the UNION.

    Strange.

    Interesting mindset.

    One I cannot fathom.

Kinda underreported by the National TV media....

It's like something out of a horror movie

Ground swallows man whole while family watches....

Ground eats you. Earth swallows you whole while in bed.  Kinda freaky.

Wonder what sins he committed that caused the gods to take him?

    Strangely

Despite Barry's prediction of a few days ago, I woke up and found that the world hadn't ended, that essential government was (so far) still operating, that no one was starving, and that the United States was still here, still operating and still functioning.

    Strange.

According to the news media, none of this was supposed to happen. Everything was going to come to a screeching shuddering smoking halt, and people were going to be tossed instantly into starvation and our country into chaos.

As it is, nearly no one (except the military) has noticed so far.

I am sure that the cuts will have consequences and that there will be repercussions down the road. However, the end didn't happen.

What is going to happen though when all the  folks get their free Obamafones cut off?

    Good on Magpul

    Story HERE

    I gotta say

That Barry's talk today...that "press conference" was pathetic.

I almost felt sorry for him.

    Almost.

But than again, this mess is of his own making. All the way around. The Sequester was his, the failure to negotiate was his, the refusal to cut spending was his, the insistence on additional taxes was his....

I guess I can't help but smirk at his discomfiture.

    It occurs to me

That the Federal government has to put the cuts in services in the most obvious and painful places, in places that everyone will see and be affected by (and that the press will gleefully point to).

'Cause if they cut most of government we might not notice for a week or 12....and then we'd wonder why we need those departments.....

    Yep. Big savings

Worth laying off meat inspectors and Air Traffic controllers...But not, of course, TSA or ATF...Or IRS either.

But the Administration will make the cuts in the places which hurt the public the most in order to get their way.

A look into the views of Uncle Joe

ANd what he proposes for your guns.

    Go HERE

    Some highlights:

    On the Second Amendment:
" It was written primarily for self-defense."

    On the AR-15:
" The answer is that there is a clear argument within the definition of the Supreme Court laid out that that particular weapon is not a usual weapon in the sense that you need it for your self-protection or for hunting purposes."

    And:
" Well, you know, my shotgun will do better for you than your AR-15, because you want to keep someone away from your house, just fire the shotgun through the door"

And why they should be banned:
" Because there are so many out there, and police don’t want more out there, because they’re being outgunned. That’s the reason why."

Read the rest. It explains why they are so confused.
