One wonders:

So Barry and Michelle Obama are buying a mansion on Martha's Vineyard.

Good for them. I'm happy for them.

But one wonders, where did they get the cash to do so? I mean, 15 MILLION dollars is a lot of a whole lot. And the utilities alone are gonna be a whole lot of money each month. Plus upkeep, maintenance, taxes, staff, etc.

Where did they get the money for the purchase and where is the income stream coming from for the residual cost per month? It's gotta be another half million dollars a year just to keep the thing going.

Where is that coming from, much less the 15 MILLION clams it took to make the purchase?
(According to the experts, Barry and Michelle are worth over $130 Million....all from "Book Deals and Speaking Engagements". In 3 years they have earned 130 MILLION bucks. Good work when you can get it, I guess.)

ETA: One wonders why Barry would be buying beachfront land ON AN ISLAND....since he told us if we didn't spend all that government (taxpayer) money on Solar Cells and other Green Initiatives pout forth by his cronies the icecaps were gonna melt in a few years and flood all the seafronts and Raise the Sea Level by tens of feet or more......Wouldn't that put his mansion underwater?

Or was that where he got some of his money? From grateful beneficiaries of his policies? Perhaps they are the ones paying him the Big Bucks for the "Speaking Engagements" ?

I would think that if he believed his story about melting the icecaps he would have bought land in the mountains....

Or, perhaps, he was just lying when he said all that about Global Warming Climate Change....

Why you should NEVER allow the Feds to disarm you:

27 years ago, the siege that became known as "Ruby Ridge" began.

Federal Marshals, out of control and acting on flawed information from the ATF (go figure), killed Sammy Weaver and laid siege to the home of Randy Weaver and his family until the FBI became involved.

During the resulting siege, a sniper from the Hostage Rescue Team "accidentally" killed Vicki Weaver while she was holding their infant son. The son was not harmed. The shot was against the Rules of Engagement, but Lon Horiuchi, the sniper, was acquitted in Federal court....He should have been convicted of Murder.
No one, not a single agent, was fired for the debacle. No one was convicted of murder either. No one lost their pension, and several were promoted.
The Agents of the State were held blameless for their actions. Repeat: No one was in any way censured for the whole debacle,

Armed citizens are the only barrier to the State and it's minions choosing to do the same thing to the rest of us should we become the target of their choice.

Never give up your defense. Ever.

And despite the Taxpayers paying a large settlement to the Weaver family members for the actions of their employees, the fact is that a family lost a mother and a son. I once met Randy Weaver. He was, then, a broken man. No one can fix the damage done to him. And yet the Agents of the FBI, the US Marshals Service, and the F-Troop ATF agents all skated on their crimes. No one was called to account for this debacle.

I sincerely hope this never happens again. But without the means to see that it doesn't, to defend against out-of-control Law Enforcement, it will happen, sooner or later.
Never give up your means of defense, your means to at least fight back.

Armed men are Citizens, unarmed men are Serfs. Choose which you will be.

I guess Wayne need a new wardrobe

Seems that Wayne needs more money.

He told me so in a Email that he sent me from the NRA.

It had a "Personal" video from him telling me all about how, with my help, the NRA can "continue the Fight"  and without me (and my money) they might fail.

Fuck That.

Not a DIME until Wayne La Pierre is gone from the NRA.

But do it for the "Environment" !

I do love it when an urban apartment dweller tells me that because I don't sort my trash for recycling  I am a terrible person who is destroying the environment and causing global warming climate change.

This from a person who drives (when there are public transportation options available...IE trains) over 50 miles every day (each way) to get to work, who lives in an apartment and cares for zero greenspace.

He seems to feel that sorting trash for (energy wasting) recycling efforts somehow offsets several acres of greenspace (which I own and maintain as habitat) with significant tree and other vegetation growth, that is close to where I need to average daily (or less) round trip is less than 25 miles.

But hey, Greenie "Holier than thou" or something.

I offered to bring him my (average) 5 cubic foot of sortable trash each week in order that he could sort it..... I mean, "If you really think it is that big of a deal, and will make all that much difference, I can toss a bag or two into the back of my pickup and deliver it to you every couple of days.... it isn't out of my way or anything"... He declined.

I LOVE exposing liberal hypocrisy.

And, as has been pointed out, even though it often makes no sense energy wise or monetarily (which equates to energy, really) recycling is (often) a religious expiation

After 22 hours

The 16 year old girl was Arkansas.

So she was well beyond the scope of the local-to-home Amber Alert at the time the Alert was sent.

Apparently unharmed, she is on her way home.

And thousands of disgruntled people have now turned off their Amber Alert function on their phone so they aren't awoken at 5:50 AM on a Sunday next time.....

I think I'm gonna give it a bit more time. Perhaps the cops will get their heads out of their asses. I doubt it, but "hope springs eternal".

No one yet knows if this is a case of "Running away with her boyfriend" or an actual abduction either. Either way, it was a 16 year old "Princess" and a 22 year old man, so....

Sunday, August 18, 2019

Kinda missing the concept:

So at 5:33 AM  today I get an "Amber Alert" on my phone.

OK, I get that. Be on the lookout for XXX vehicle with plate number ABCxxyy. Timely info could lead to a quick resolution of the issue....

Then later this morning, I find out that this is for a 17 year old girl who "may" have been abducted 18 hours before from an area about 15 miles from my home.

Firstly, this isn't what the "Amber Alert" system is is supposed to be used for more timely stuff like child abductions that have JUST HAPPENED, not for something that happened 18 hours earlier.
Second, waking people up early on a Sunday for stuff that happened 18 hours before is likely to cause them to turn the Amber Alert feature "OFF". Had this been put out at 3 in the afternoon for something that may have happened at noon or 1 pm, it might have made sense. Finding someone who MAY have been abducted and putting an alert out for the abductors vehicle makes sense. Putting the Amber Alert out at 5:30 in the morning is obviously not a great response time nor is it likely to result in finding the abductor 18 hours after he has fled.
I'd bet that nearly everyone that got the alert simply turned it off and went back to sleep. I was already awake, but it even irritated me at the timing. A part of me thought about turning the feature off since the authorities obviously can't use common sense, but I didn't, as the next one might be an alert where I could actually help....

One wonders about the intelligence and cognitive skills of the people in Law Enforcement who make these decisions. (Not meant to be a slam on cops in general, just SOME of their folks who do boneheaded stuff like the above)....If the dude has left the area, then there is no reason to be waking anyone up because he is long gone....18 hours worth of gone. If he's holed up close by, I doubt he's moving at 5:30 AM. Shoulda put the Amber Alert out within the hour of the abduction

Absolutely.....of course

Epstien's death was a suicide.

And Oswald acted alone.
Jack Ruby acted in the best interest of Jackie.

Vince Foster was a suicide.

Bigfoot lives with the Loch Ness Monster.

Am I missing any?

(for those of you too young to know what the other references are, use Google)

Meeting night at the range

Once a month we have a meeting at the range to discuss range business and improvements, induct new members and decide if we are gonna spend any of the dues money on projects and schedule work parties to fix or improve things.

Some meetings are boring, some are more entertaining, some are slow paced, some are quick. Usually cordial, once in a while one is contentious.

This meeting, one member who wants something done and wants it right away (but expects others to do the work) was asked what he was gonna pay to have it done since HE never volunteered to do any work nor any fundraising. 'Twas a priceless moment.

It would seem that even among (mostly conservative) gun owners there are Liberal type folks who think that they can spend the work, money and effort of others...and feel that their needs and wants should be paid for with the effort of others.

Odd, that

Seems that a bunch of Americans were hired recently after applying to the positions "vacated"  by all those illegals arrested in Mississippi at the Koch poultry plant last week.

Funny. I was told that those illegals only "do the jobs that Americans won't do" and don't compete with US Citizens for jobs.

Apparently that isn't true.

Aaaand, there ya go

Seems that the guards assigned to Epstein were "Sleeping" at the time of his untimely death. Both of them. Both guards. At the same time.

Oddly, they also "falsified reports" as to when and how they did their inspections (if any).

Funny how that happened, innit? And funny how his roommate "posted Bail" the day before, leaving him alone in the room....

Next, I expect to hear that the video cameras (if any) were "temporarily non functional" or "under repair".

Either way, a major and important witness is dead. Conveniently. Too conveniently for me to believe it is just incompetence.

One can expect that those guards will shortly be killed in a rouge alligator attack on the streets of greater New York. (the smartest thing they could do is promise to talk in return for protection....and hope that those protectors could not be bought...Either way, I wouldn't place any bets on their long term survival).

Monday, August 12, 2019

I am informed that Epstein was not in the custody of the New York Penal System, but rather in Federal custody.

And that he wasn't on "Suicide Watch".

Again: Why no Suicide Watch? Why no monitoring?

And who ordered that the precautions be lifted?

Someone, at best, screwed up. At worst, they helped silence a potential that could embarrass or ruin many highly placed men (and, if rumors are true, women). I find it hard to believe that this was simply someone making a mistake in judgement. Not with such a high profile client. This wasn't random nor do I believe it was simple incompetence.

Who will be fired? Who will lose their position and pension?

The big question is which prison employee will die in a terrible car accident or under strange circumstances in the next few months?

Someone, somewhere, has the answers. If they are not silenced, then will they talk to try and save their own lives?

I used the term "Arkancide" earlier. However, if half the rumors about Epstein are based in even a semblance of  fact, then there are MANY people besides the Little Rock power couple that had an interest in Epstein's silence.

If nothing else, those officials in charge should be fired and punished for their incompetence, and investigated (especially financially) for involvement.....

Non Breaking News of interest:

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons (I thought he was in a Manhattan Jail???) Jeffrey Epstein was NOT on suicide watch....He had been taken off only just the week prior....

If not on suicide watch, why not? He had attempted suicide only weeks before.

One wonders if suddenly, in the very near future, some New York jail officials will suddenly become oxygen starved, or fall from tall buildings, or have terrible manhole accidents, etc.

You know what I mean. Gotta trim those loose ends.

Watch for it.

The sad part is that it might be true:

And even sadder is that they are likely gonna get away with it.
(I especially like the third one)

To be fair, there are a LOT of folks (allegedly) as likely to have benefited from Epsteins's inability to testify. Some of them as powerful (and even MORE wealthy) than the Clintons. Lots of folks here is the States and (reportedly) even more abroad.

ETA: as stated in comments on SCC: "Dead Pedophiles (and panderers) tell no tales".

And just like that, Bill Clinton's problem went away.....

along with, of course, the problem of many other rich and powerful people.

Accused sex trafficker and wealthy financier Jeffrey Epstein found dead by suicide in Manhattan jail

Like Vince Foster.

One wonders what information would have come out at Epstein's trial?

The correct term is "Arkancide". Funny how that happens to a guy on suicide watch, innit?

I wish they'd give us some numbers..

But apparently there is something going on in Russia......Radiation levels are high and people are dead.

But no numbers as to what the radiation levels are.

It isn't a reactor incident as far as we know, but still...

Gun control

Y;know, what with the Media push, the timing (coincidence?I think not) and the fact that TWO men, at more or less the same time chose to commit mass murder.... And that the media campaign was so well planned and ready to use..

I cannot help but wonder if this is a planned attempt to get more gun control....
In fact, Australian style gun control...Essentially confiscation.

And I cannot help but wonder if the folks that want this gun control are willing to kill a bunch of people to get that gun control.

It is frightening to me that I can even consider this.

And even more frightening that I may be correct.

Thursday, August 8, 2019

If Trump can't make some headway on the Border Wall, he's gonna lose about 1/3 of his supporters.

And if he allows these last two shootings to push him into signing some DNC type "Common Sense Gun Control" measure, he's gonna lose another 1/3 of his supporters.

He's already forgotten his promise to repeal BarryCare.

So I fully expect that we will have a DNC type for our next presided coming up.

'cause unlike Liberals, folks like us kinda expect results and punish betrayal.

I remember having lunch with Tam a few years ago and we were discussing the voting choices. Trump or Hillary:

Her words then: "You gonna vote for the New York Democrat or the New York Democrat?
To date, she's been correct.

So far, Donnie hasn't done much that he has promised, and if he betrays the Second Amendment folks, he'll lose for sure.

Knife control

Seems there was a stabbing spree in Orange County Ca.

4 dead, others injured.

All the dead were Hispanic.

The stabber, of course, must have been a Trump supporter....Hating on Hispanics because Trump.

Of course, he too was Hispanic. But that doesn't matter.

Maybe there was another motive. Perhaps he was just insane.

I wonder how they will spin this...or if they will just ignore it 'cause it doesn't fit their meme.

Chicago: Bang Bang

So despite the outcry about "racism" and "terror" in the incidents in El Paso and Dayton, (which were tragedies), there is no national news about the 52 (yes, fifty two)  people shot in the greater South Side of Chicago....

Fifty two people shot.

In one incident, HUNDREDS of rounds were fired.

Yet no national news. Why?

I guess that the Media just expects the folks in the South Side to behave that way.

Of course, despite the outcry  that the Po-lice "Must Do Something", no one in the communities are working with the CPD to identify and convict the perpetrators....

Toxic masculinity

So in order to find something to discuss about the terrible shootings in both El Paso and Dayton, the CBS news is discussing the heroes during those incidents.

Despite trying hard (I am sure), they were only able to come up with men who did heroic things in an attempt to save the lives of others.

No woman, no flagrantly gay men, no lesbians, no transgendered folks (at least none who identified themselves as such)...And I am sure that the Media tried very hard to find someone.
Only men who risked themselves for the lives of others...often strangers.

Look: This was a tragedy. These folks perpetrating these attacks are whacked, deserve to be killed like rabid dogs, and (obviously) are mentally deranged.

I'm not trying to denigrate those other people here....those who took cover or ran did the normal thing....the wise thing. Those, however, who tried to save others, are heroes. And so far, I haven't seen anything but men being hailed as heroes in these incidents. Why is that?

Sunday, August 4, 2019

Sometimes news, sometimes not

18 in Texas, more in Ohio

And the Media is having a field day.

Yet there were 12 people shot in Chicago's South Side (just stannin on the conna mindin' my own bidness....(well after midnight))....and no one in the Media even noticed because it was a normal Saturday night in Chicago...5 in one incident, and 7 in another a few miles away.

Why the big deal for the shootings, isolated incidents, in the other two areas of the country when this sort of thing happens in Chicago nearly every weekend?

One wonders. Is the Media simply ignoring the shootings in Chicago because they are "normal" or because they are in areas that are majority black and this is just what the (mostly white) leftist journalists expect from a bunch of "Darkies"? Why isn't the weekly group shooting incidents news?
I'm thinking racism here.

And, oddly, "Moms Demand Action" had a "spontaneous protest" in Washington DC  Saturday evening...complete with pre-printed signs decrying gun violence.....what a strange coincidence....

I could learn to like flying one:

Well, that was a surprise.

So the Collings Foundation came to a nearby local airport. There was the B-17 (Nine o Nine), the B-24 (Witchcraft), the P-40 , a B-25 (Tondelayo), a Grumman "Hellcat" , and then of course, there was a TF-51 Mustang (Toulouse Nuts).

We toured the B-17 bomber, and the Mitchell, and then MC pushed me in the direction of the table where they have people sign up for the Bomber rides.
I have been on those rides before, and while they are pretty neat, I didn't want to spend the (large) dollars to fly on one again. But I was willing to shell out the bucks if she wanted another ride in the B-24...
Nope, She wanted me to sign the papers to fly in the P-51, which she had previously paid for and which was ready for me....
Now, I'm cheap frugal.....I would never pay for such a ride for myself, and she knew this. So she bought it for me.
She paid for a half hour ride. Pretty serious $$. But "No Refunds" I accepted the gift and signed the papers and walked to the plane.

I had help strapping in, and got the preflight briefing on how to release the seat straps if needed and how to bail out and what to pull if I needed the parachute that was strapped to me.  I got a basic preflight briefing on where we would be going and what we would be doing....

But, it seems, as luck would have it, that they had decided to do a formation flight with the P-40 and the Hellcat. So the pilot of the P-51 asked if I would mind waiting while they started the other two aircraft and they took off. (duh, of course I objected I agreed to wait.....)

So we watched, and waited while they fired up, first the -40, then the Hellcat, then we fired up the Mustang and taxiied to the end of  Rwy 9 and lined up and took off.

Acceleration on takeoff is about 3 seconds, the tail comes up and about 5 seconds later,  we climbed out to enter a pattern for the airfield.
The P-40 joined up, then the Hellcat.
P-40 on the left

Hellcat on the right side
We orbited for a few passes, then the -40 broke off,

We flew with the Hellcat for a few more minutes, then the Hellcat peeled off. (sorry, no picture)

"Are you ready?" asked my pilot...

"Of course" I replied.

We climbed to 9500 feet, and did some aerobatics. first a roll, then a 4 point, then a barrel roll. Some lazy eights, then a cuban....

Then he offered to let me fly.

While the sight picture is different (the cowling is about 6 times longer than that of my 182), and there is an illusion with the cockpit rail which makes the backseater want to raise the nose,  it only took me a minute to find what level flight looked like. I held straight and level for a minute, then tried out the controls, pitching up and down, banking left and right, yawing a bit.
The P-51 aircraft is easy to control. Trimmed out, it flew with very little effort. I did a turn to the left, then one to the right. Ron (the pilot) urged a steeper turn. I did...45 degrees...."No, steeper"...So I did, pitching at 60 degrees. "no, steeper". So I did...nearly 90 is easy to do when one has about 1200 HP to keep the airplane flying.

I did some real turns, pulling better than 3 g's. Put the nose on  the horizon, bank, and PULL it through. It's hard to do when one is used to a Cessna 182...flying like that would pull the wings off of my airplane..... But I soon overcame my caution and had a lot of fun,...Now I know, and truly understand,  the term "Yanking and Banking"....... "you aren't using the controls enough, Don't be nice.. Fly this plane".  So I did. It was FUN!.
That is a REALLY fun airplane to fly. With a bit of practice I think I could learn to be pretty smooth....

"Do a roll". Huh? "Do_A_Roll!". Ok, so I did. The first one wasn't as smooth, as I let up on the left aileron too early so I didn't end up wings level..., but the next ones were pretty good, first to the left, then to the right. Pretty easy, actually.  My 4 point rolls were shaky, ...I'd never done those before, but the second set was better...Again, horsepower makes it easy to do. (I'm used to 230 HP in a 2900 lb gross weight airplane at 130 knots, not 1200 HP in a 9000 lb aircraft at 250 MPH...the difference is significant......way more energy and WAY more recovery). Cubans are fun to do when the airplane is designed to be "Yanked and Banked"....

Basically, with Ron's encouragement, I was allowed to play with this airplane. It's like being given the keys to a GT road racer and being told to play with it, only in three dimensions..(and yes, I've raced some high performance cars...the comparison is close).

Too soon, it was time to return....I flew the route back, and the pattern (250 MPH!...In the Pattern!!!) until the final turn and then Ron took over for the final and landing....

We touched down and he taxiied back...

And before I knew it, It was over.

Not many pictures, because I was TOTALLY surprised and unprepared for the whole experience...and I was engrossed in the came last... Had I known, there would have been a GoPro with me....But it was a surprise....

But it was great! Fun, exciting, Hands on, Interactive. 4.5 G's. Noisy. Gobs of horsepower.... A real blast.  A great experience.

I'm kind of a lucky guy. It was a great surprise and a great gift.

I really want a P-51 in my Christmas stocking....(and a large checkbook for fuel and maintenance)...

And I got 0.9 hours of P-51 Mustang flight instruction time in my logbook...

I don't really think a non pilot can appreciate and understand what this aircraft is, or what it can do....I am sure that they enjoy the flight, but as a pilot, I can REALLY appreciate this plane.

Thanks, MC!

I agree

Peter's post sums it up.

Wayne LaPierre (and many others) HAVE TO GO.

It is beyond time.

I've felt this way for more than a few years, and what with all the "Shenanigans" (as Peter Puts it) it is beyond time.

While we still have an NRA.

Time for the Board (and the members) to get it together and do what is necessary.

Get rid of the current management and clean house.

I join the others in calling for a housecleaning of the NRA.

Truly, the end of an era

So I made my last trip to Bobby Nelson's Cheese shop in Kenosha Wisconsin on Saturday. (no link to a website....because they don't have one!)

An hour and half each way.

They are closing after 70 years of selling Cheese, meats, and Sausages.

You could get aged cheddar, fresh curds, and beef summer sausage...the latter, as the sign out front promised...either Mitt, or Mittout......Mitt Garlic, that is (lots of garlic). I have to keep the "Mitt" outside in the garage 'cause it stinks up the house. But that is some good food.  I (used to) go up in that direction every few months, and bring delicacies back for friends

Good old fashioned-needs no refrigeration-hang it up by the string, summer sausage.

Sadly, the kids have their own lives, the proprietors are in their 70's, and no one wants to work enough to buy the business, so after 70 years in business, 40 years with the present owners, they are closing.  I bought from, and knew Phyllis and Richard since I went to college in Wisconsin 30+ years ago, and remember my grandfather stopping there with me even before that from when I was about 10....

I have friends who swear by their smoked liver sausage (I can't stand the stuff), others who would kill for their aged (2, 5 10, 15 and 25 year) cheddar,....I like the 5 year and the 10 year, the older stuff is a bit strong for me. I also love the 2 year old swiss.

Sadly, most "Wisconsin" cheese shops are not Wisconsin cheese but imported from all over.
Bobby Nelson's was the real thing.

His property sidelined by the expansion of US41/I-94, and beset by age, Robert and Phyllis are retiring.

I'm so glad that cheese freezes well..... I have 20 lbs of it. Plus sausage. I will be distributing the liver sausage among friends who like it. I bought a whole bunch of all of it, meat, sausage, and cheese.

I bought a bunch 'cause there ain't gonna be no more after this.

I wish Phyllis and Richard well in their retirements.

This dude right there

Should have chosen a better accomplice:

CHICAGO —A 26-year-old man has died after he was accidentally shot by a passenger in his own vehicle on the city’s South Side.

I mean, really, if one cannot trust one's "Homies" then who can one trust?

Bad life choice, there.
Permanent disability too.
At least he won't be making trouble for anyone else.

Darwin, as always, rules.

The flight home (Texas flight part two)

So Saturday, I had been watching the progress of Tropical storm/Hurricane/Tropical depression "Barry"....

After we finished our business in Texas on Saturday, we had time to fly home......or at least part of the distance...

So I called 1-800-WxBrief for a briefing.....explained that I wanted to go back to NW Indiana, and had planned for Sunday, but could leave Saturday night if that was a better idea for VFR the weather at Tyler was clear to at least 10,000 ft and not windy. Perfect VFR flying weather.

The Meteorologist briefer told me that the storm would track east and north....that my proposed route of flight (Tyler/Ft Smith/Joplin/Springfield Mo/Springfield Il/Home) would be clear, possibly a bit of headwind....maybe a small deviation west and north to clear the expected 3500 ft ceilings and a bit of turbulence out of Tyler....

So we stayed the night, planning to leave in the morning after a good nights rest......

Yeah, not so much.

Morning came, and the ceiling was lower than forecast.....lots lower. Like 1500 ft AGL.

I called again, and was assured it would clear shortly...expected to be 3500 ft in 90 minutes. Clearing to the north and west.

So we went to the airport, pulled the plane out of the hangar, preflighted, paid the bill, loaded the luggage, and waited.

and waited.

Finally, some clearing. the ceiling was 2200 (just above minimums,) and the tower told me it was clearing to the north and west (notice a pattern here?) and cleared me for taxi. We taxiied to the assigned runway and took off.

So much for forecasts.

About 20 minutes into the flight, the ceiling about 1500 ft AGL. I tuned in the ATIS at Tyler, and it was...600 ft.....Can't turn around (shit).... Turbulent too, so we were flying at 90 knots to not beat up the airplane...It was clearer at Majors, but only marginally. Hmmm... Set a course for East Texas Regional (staying out of the Dallas class Bravo airspace), and looked at obstructions in my path (Don't wanna hit any towers or anything) in ForeFlight.... Clear below 1000 ft AGL, so we kept going....staying just VFR. Vis was 4+ miles, so we were barely legal, I'd have landed at East Texas Regional if it hadn't cleared up by the time we got closer...2500 ft and 8 miles visibility.  The AWOS for Durant OK (to the north of us) said 3500 ceiling, so we turned that way.....turned right (east) at Durant and flew to Joplin. Found a hole in the clouds just after Durant and climbed to find the tops at 6300. Flew at 7500 for most of an hour at 127 knots indicated...146 true. And we had a tailwind of (at one point) 45 we made some real time to Joplin. Stopped there for fuel and a bit of walkaround.

Very pretty up above the clouds

From there, it was gravy. Clearing skies, higher ceilings, mostly perfect.....We did cross the Mighty (muddy) Mississippi River again going north-east (ish) after Joplin, somewhat north of St Louis.

Mightier and Muddier than the trip down. Lots more out of the banks too.

We dodged a couple of small thunderstorm cells around Decatur Illinois, and, while we COULD have made it home, decided to stop at Champaign, Il for some 100 LL....(expensive fuel, but it was a good idea, as there was a squall line between us and home). We flew north to nearly Joliet,Il and then turned east to get home.

All told, 8 hours of flying to get back.

Twas an interesting flight back. Challenging flying...not dangerous, but at or below my minimums for the first part.

I doubt I ever trust a weather forecaster ever again though.

Having said that, it was a wash as far as travel time, and (slightly) cheaper for the two of ys vs commercial.

Plus it was friggin' cool flying myself to where I wanted.

Lessons: Never trust Meteorologists.  Don't trust forecasts, or even conditions that are "clearing".... wait for real, reported conditions to be above your minimums.

I can't wait for an excuse for another trip.

Double standards?

Nah, if there were, then we'd have stuff like THIS....

Never happen with an unbiased press like we have in the US though....

Wednesday, July 24, 2019

So..... was Muellers testimony

An actual Fact Finding mission, or simply a chance for all (and yes, I mean BOTH sides) of those Congresscritters to get a chance to bloviate and do their best to put some kind of a spin on what few questions they got Mueller to answer?

Jesus, what a colossal waste of time, money and effort.

Texas flight (part one)

So we traveled to Texas....Tyler, Texas, to be precise....I looked at Southwest flights from Midway to Dallas. $849 round trip plus surcharge. More at peak hours.  Each. (times two 'cause, while I COULD leave MC behind, then I could never return home).
Plus Parking at MDW

Then I looked at the cost of flying my 182. (yes, I wanted to fly my OWN plane there, but I DID try to look at the economics)

6:30 total time  each way more or less (including routing around Saint Louis and either Little Rock or Memphis). My cost per hour including maintenance? $110.

Time is a wash, as the travel time To MDW, then parking, then TSA, then being there a half hour before boarding puts us at least 2 hours, (better plan for 2 and a half) plus 2 :30 travel time, plus 2 hours from DAL to Tyler....

And besides, I wanted to fly the damned plane.

So we flew private. As in Private Plane private style.

The weather on the trip down was AWESOME. Clear skies and a 4 knot headwind on our first leg....2 hours to Mt Vernon Illinois. Flight Following all the way, great controllers. Pleasant and professional. 8500 ft at 128 knots indicated....142 true.

Mount Vernon is a VERY nice, well kept airport. Cheap fuel and a decent FBO...Pleasant people too.
Took a short walk, did the necessary, and we were again airborne.

Second leg was to Stuttgart Arkansas, just south and east of Little Rock. 8500 and (since it was hotter) 124 indicated (about 146 true according to the GPS calculator)

We did cross the Mighty (muddy) Mississippi River...It was out of it's banks.

Not much there. Self serve fuel and, while the Runways were well kept (Markings were fresh and such), the rest of the airport is....well-broken in, shall we say. Lots of cropdusters in the area....and none of them use the radios! Stuttgart was, once, a VERY nice, sadly, neglected.

We filled up, walked to the airport building to use the facilities, listened to the phone ring at the airport office while we did our business (there was no one there for the 15 minutes we were in the building...good thing we are honest) and left. Lining up for departure, AFTER I had listened to the radio and called "Departing RWY 18" we had the fun of watching another cropduster land at that moment on 36...No radio calls, nothing. Just heading right at us as we began out takeoff roll....Disconcerting, I must say, even at the far end of a 6000 foot runway.
Interesting, that. Them boys are crazy.,,,,but all cropduster pilots are. We stopped our takeoff, he turned off at the first taxiway, and we again began our takeoff roll, this time without any other traffic scaring me.

Departure was without incident.  Again, Flight Following and great controllers. 6500 (per the controllers request (for traffic) and 133 indicated. I didn't bother to calculate the true airspeed. (it's still on the far side of 150 MPH)

We went past Texarkana, and were deviated a bit by Longview approach for a small pop-up thunderstorm that was just sitting in our path....

Passed off to Tyler tower and, once I figured out the right runway ...their runway numbers are SMALL... we got on the ground and parked (with a bit of taxi assistance by the ground controller) and found our FBO.

Johnson Air in Tyler is a nice facility. They were pleasant and professional....But they forgot to order our rental car.....and there were none to be had at that late time in the day...So they gave us a crew car for the first evening and most of the next day until they could get a rental for us. Screwed up, but made it right, which is all one can ask.

Dinner was Stanley's Barbecue...not fancy, just plain damned good food. Exactly what I needed after a long day of flying...that trip down was (until then) the longest I had flown in a day.

And off to our hotel.

More later as I have time to put another post together.

Do I have this right???

The Democrats (and the Media)...(But, again, I repeat myself) are all up in arms about the (claimed, but somehow not proven) "Foreign interference in our election"...(Despite the fact that over half of Barry O's  campaign funds came from overseas credit cards) and they want to pass laws to prevent this "Foreign Interference" from affecting our next election....(even though there is no evidence that there was any, but let us table that fact for now)

But they want to allow Illegal Immigrants (forgive me, "undocumented future citizens who don't pay taxes") the right to vote, and they want those Illegal Immigrants (sorry..."Future DNC voters") presence to affect how congressional districts are allocated (by not counting of the people in those districts are citizens or not)

How is the above not "Foreign Interference?? It may not be funding an election campaign (like Barry's) but it is still interference, nonetheless.

Yeah, once again

The Meteorologists blew their forecast for my area.

Never did get the rain they went 40 miles north of the predicted path.

Temps were lower than forecast by nearly 10 degrees.

But they can, of course, tell us the climate in 50 and 100 years, even if they can't get close to tomorrow.

And at this time, 50 years ago

Those brave men were on their way back, From the Moon.

Did they carry lunar diseases?

Would they survive reentry?

Saturday, July 20, 2019

A thought:

Your smartphone has more computing ability than all the computers used in the entire Apollo 11 rocket, from tip to fins.

But without the technology developed by that effort, you wouldn't have that smartphone.

50 years ago..the world held its breath

The first steps of a human being from Earth on another celestial body.

Apollo 11 landed on the earth's moon 50 years ago today. the time was 2017 UTC (3:17 pm Central here in the US)

Those men were Giants.

Friday, July 19, 2019

Also 50 years ago:

Ted Kennedy gave Mary Jo Kopechene some lessons in how to drive while intoxicated which resulted in her attempting to learn about breathing water.

The results were not as planned.

He then gave the rest of the world lessons in how to cover up a crime and how to run away from a drowning woman.

Sadly for the Democrats, this derailed his chances to become president.
But he never spent a minute in jail, despite failing to report his crime for over 10 hours.
Odd, innit, how well that worked out for him.

Mary Jo was, sadly, unable to comment.

The media like the Liberals and the Liberals hate our Society and what our Country is and what it stands for....

How to get more Trump

She wants this to "Go Viral"?

Yeah, lets help it go viral:

This is the face of the new DNC. It was like that when I was growing up (only about the Vietnam war) and now it is about illegal invaders border crossers.

These people hate everything about the country.

All those folks are racist

I mean, 6 in 10 believe "the migrants have burdened the native population by claiming jobs and benefits that would otherwise accrue to Mexican citizens. A 55 percent majority supports deporting the migrants before they reach the U.S."

Which proves that the majority of the country is racist.

Of course, the catch here is that that country is...Mexico...... and the migrants are the ones that are transiting Mexico to illegally cross the border into the US.

Interesting, innit?
And here I have been told for decades that only white people can be racist.

It will probably work better than they might think:

New strategy:

"Trump 2020 Campaign To Simply Air Unedited Footage Of Democrats Talking"

My Dad once told me: Better to be silent and thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt". It took me a while to learn that lesson, but i eventually did.

AOC and her "Squad" (where did that come from?) are indeed removing the veil and showing us what they really think, what they really are all about, and people are beginning to discern their True Colors. ....eventually, even their followers will realize what they are.

Tuesday, July 16, 2019

Pretty much the way they always do.

First, they fuck it up.

Then they complain about it.

Then they try to blame someone else.....

And the Media promotes their agenda and meme.

And lots of under informed folks who get their opinions from the MSM believe the story.

Innit interesting

How the Left and the Media (but I repeat myself) keeps redefining "racist"  and how they keep applying the label in an attempt to damage anyone with whom they disagree?

I think that TheDonald is playing the Media and the Left (again, I repeat myself)....and is polarizing opinion against the Left.

I believe that a whole bunch of people, both Left and Right, are thinking that Donnie is right....these folks hate the country, and talk trash about the US....and despite the spin placed upon his words by the Media, most of our population dislikes it when people, especially far Leftists and recent immigrants. denigrate the US.

Have you ever noticed that the Left doesn't ever discuss how wonderful the US is...that it is a great enough place that people try nearly anything, brave extreme dangers, to get here?

And have you ever noticed that those same Leftists want "change" ....and that they expect the rest of us to acquiesce to that "Change" even when it will cause hardship or increase our tax burden?

It isn't like they are willing to pony up some money or change their lifestyle in order to get that "Change"...they expect the rest of us to pay for it.....Or to change OUR lifestyle to facilitate their "Change".

"Love it Leave it" some point someone is gonna say it, and what then?

I would ask, rather...If you hate this country so much, why don't you move to a place where you like it better? What gives you the right to change THIS country?

Big ones.

Today was the day that Apollo 11 lit the torch and began the journey to the moon.

Those three men had HUGE huevos.

It may be that DB cooper has passed on:

So one of the possible "D,B,Cooper" suspects has passed.

And it may be that we will now never know the truth.

Robert Rackstraw, a man suspected of being "D.B. Cooper" passed away on Jun 10 at the age of 75.

Barry screwed me

No, mot the ex president, the Tropical Storm.

And the AWC forecasters, as well as the Weather Briefers, were not terribly accurate in their predictions of ceilings and storm movement. Made for an interesting and exhausting flight home.

But, we were able to leave Tyler,Texas, and if we had to fly lower than I wanted to most of the way (to fly VFR), we made it home after an 8 hour flight.  (6 hours 21 minutes down)

Overall, it was a good trip. Even with the weather issues, it was a wash as far as time travelling, and two people flew as cheaply as one would have cost commercial.

More later, with pics, as soon as I get caught up.

This is what I learned to fly for....(the freedom and convenience, not the weather...)

Riddle me this...

Question for de ladies:
Why is a woman considered 'Naked" in only a bra and underwear, but yet wearing a bikini in public (which often covers less) is fully dressed?

Just a question.
"Asking for a friend" and all that...

I was high

In my estimate of those shot and those killed in Chicago this Independence Day holiday weekend.

5 dead, 68 shot is the current official tally. I would bet that it goes up a bit, but my guess of 12 dead was high. (Which might just mean that Chicago has better doctors?)....I had placed my bet on 18 and 75.

Still, my prediction that it would be mostly on the South Side and South Side folks was correct. No great feat to predict that though....Anyone who pays attention could have correctly predicted that...

Of course, pointing the race and culture of those folks involved with the shootings is anathema to the media....No one wants to face the truth.

They DO exist:

I saw one yesterday:

That is, I must say, the largest Garden Gnome I have ever seen. And one of the best and simplest costumes too.

Gonna keep up until WLP leaves the NRA

As you know, I have been, and continue to be, unhappy with the NRA.

I have advocated for Wayne LaPierre to leave the NRA (or be tossed, I really don't care)....

And here we have one of the biggest "gun Guys" least one of the most visible, cutting ties (at least for now) with the NRA because of the mismanagement and misuse of OUR funds....

WLP cannot be gone soon enough.

I hope the Board takes note and acts soon.

Private Pilot plus 365

One year ago today, I took my Checkride and earned my Pilots License.

I've learned a lot since then. I didn't realize how much I didn't know...

I bought a plane, and I have flown it over 85 hours since November.

I'm working towards my instrument rating, and should have that in a few months.

I can go places faster, get there more quickly, and so am more inclined to take a trip somewhere when I can get there in 2 hours rather than 5 or more of driving. Flying VFR, I am somewhat too much at the mercy of Mother Nature, but that instrument rating will alleviate some of that issue....

All in all, it's been a great experience. More adventures to come.

Independence day

Yeah, everyone calls it the "Fourth of July>

And they forget it is really "Independence Day"...the day we celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence....the birth of our nation.....the day the colonists stuck their finger into the eye of the King and told him he was no longer their Sovereign ...

(Just as an aside, We really should celebrate on the Second, not the Fourth....but that is the day the document is dated....even if it was SIGNED on the Second. ....)

Remember WHAT we celebrate on the "Fourth of July"....

Double standards

Donald Trump is keeping migrants in "Concentration Camps" in terrible conditions and it is causing them to die in unprecedented numbers.... know....not so much.

DHS is having to deal with nearly THREE times as many people....and the death rate is less than HALF of Barry Obama's. And there was early the exact same amount of overcrowding during Barry's reign......But no one cared to notice or do a story about it.

But oddly, Trump is the Nazi who treats people badly.....

But leftists don't care about those pesky facts...."Because Trump", after all...

Wednesday, July 3, 2019

I'm thinking he's guessing low

I'm puttin' my money on 18 and 75.

From Tonight 'til Sunday at midnight.

SCC predicts 12 dead and in 55 shot in Chicago this weekend.

Place yer bets, folks.

I bet 95% on the South side, or folks FROM the South Side.

I'd also bet on a bit of "Wilding" in the more affluent shopping districts in the evening....

All bets are off if it rains though

Tuesday, July 2, 2019

Whatcha gonna cut?

So the Liberals are all up in arms about overcrowding at the border detention centers...especially the one in McCallan Texas.

I agree. Something Should Be Done.

But where are we gonna find the funding? I mean, we couldn't come up with any money for a border wall to prevent these people from ILLEGALLY entering, so when they are caught, we have to hold them for processing....

We obviously need more (and larger) facilities to hold these folks while they are set up for release (where over 80% won't show up for processing anyway, but that is another topic for another day.....)

So what are you Liberals who are protesting willing to cut to pay for the new facilities???
Welfare? AFDC? SNAP (Food Stamps)?  Midnight library book readings by Transsexuals? "Green boondoggles Initiatives? Other Socialist Programs?

Someone has to pay for these facilities that y'all are demanding.....How are ya gonna pay for it?

Monday, July 1, 2019

But they all have new cell phones:

nearly one in three US "adults" have no emergency savings....(28%)

One in four have a "rainy day fund" but not enough to cover 3 months of expenses

While there may be some folks for whom saving is impossible, I gotta say that I think that this is simply choices people make....newer cars, newer shoes, the latest IFone, eating out instead of cooking at home, $6 coffees....

Most people could choose to live differently and save $50 per week. $2500 per year. it isn't easy, and it takes discipline, but it can be done.

Choices. Live large until you can't,,,,.Or choose wisely.

I think it's a cultural thing too.

Rainbow day

Or whatever you want to call the day that the "Pride" parades take place across the country.

This is, apparently, the 50th anniversary of something, which is a big deal if one is a gay man, I understand.

The claim that this is about "acceptance"....but they have always been accepted, both men and women, as long as they behaved in a decent manner, a manner that was the same as other, straight couples. Behave, don't have sex out in the open, etc.

I remember, as a child, being introduced to "Mr. Bruce" and "His good friend Mr Jacob". I didn't understand, as a child, what the connection was. Nor did anyone I knew care that much. It was just how it was.....and that most of 50 years ago.... This was true in the Midwest, and especially in the south.

And lest you think that that was an anomaly, here is a newspaper article (From 1905!) about a very strong willed, very well loved and respected woman.....and "her lifelong companion" living together...."spinsters" just outside of Chicago.....People knew...and they just didn't give a shit one way or the other.
No one cared about who she loved.

These two are but a few examples of how gay people lived among the straight people. By behaving decently....'Twas only the folks who DIDN'T behave decently in "Public" that were harassed and hounded by societies guardians.

I suppose every group has to have something to celebrate.
So happy "Rainbow Pride" day, folks.

(I personally don't care who a person loves (or how) but that's just me(as long as both are of legal age to make the choice)....But I don't care to see it out in the streets)

Saturday, June 29, 2019

The Democrats can't find a Billion dollars for the "Wall"....

But they CAN find a TRILLION dollars for "Infrastructure.

I am all for rebuilding our nation's infrastructure.

So what gets cut? SNAP? Welfare? AFDC? What Social Program are they gonna cut to pay for all that infrastructure?  I mean, seeing as how they couldn't find the money for a border wall, we must be too where are they gonna get a thousand times that for their Graft "infrastructure" programs?

Damned good observation, innit?

I didn't watch the debate myself.

Gotta love folks who deny reality

I cannot help but laugh in disbelief.

In another forum, there is an argument about crime RATES...

It is claimed that illegal immigrant hispanic communities are (get this) MORE law abiding than the average "american" community. Especially "white" communities.

Further, that these folks make communities safer and actually increase property values.

This is the direct opposite of what I have observed myself, and moreso, is the opposite of what cops observe. But they spout study after study which claims the above.

Funny, the Leftists seem to believe that if they repeat the lie often enough, it will become reality.

I don't think that the average LEGAL immigrant is any more or less law abiding than the average "American". I do see that communities with a large percentage of illegal immigrants DO have greater crime and lower property values as well as more trash and such.
But perhaps both I and the police with whom I talk have a limited sample of observation. Perhaps we are wrong....

What are YOUR observations?

Qualifies as a hate crime:

I mean, she spit on him because he was named "Trump" and was the President's son.

The way I see it, she should be charged with a 'Hate Crime"....they charge conservatives for lesser offences.

But Eric Trump showed class and simply let it go. I'm not sure that I wouldn't have clocked her for spitting on me though, woman or not.

The owner of the bar has apologized.

3rd day

that's three days in a row without rain.

When will this deprivation end?

It could be my imagination, but I think the brass is turning slightly brown

Sunday, June 23, 2019

So when the black population "Voted ("Call me Barry") Obama into office",

And thus, the Black population had a Black man as President...

And when they had a majority of Democrats in the House and Senate.....

Just where were those elected leaders when it came to "Reparations"?
Why did they spend all their time and political capital on socialist programs like Obamacare and increased illegal immigration instead of reparations?

Just wondering.

Weather forecasting at it's finest

So, on Thursday, the forecast for Saturday was 64 degrees(f) and rain. 100 percent chance of rain Friday night, 90 percent chance of rain from 6 AM to 10 AM, and then partial clearing after noon.

So, on Thursday evening, we cancelled the work party we had planned for the range,...spring cleanup and moving about 15 yards of dirt.  The ground was already wet and even a small amount of rain would have made the job miserable and slippery and even dangerous....

Friday evening, the forecast was an 80% chance of rain in the evening and the early hours of Saturday  and possible clearing in the morning. Still a high of 64(f).

Saturday dawned bright and clear. No rain Friday evening nor on Saturday morning. In fact, there was no rain at all from Thursday until Early morning Sunday.
So much for forecast accuracy. Oh, and the high was 77 (f).

If the weather forecasters can't be accurate for weather 24-48 hours in advance, then how can their climate models be accurate in 50-100 years? In 100-200 years?

Yes, I know weather is not climate, but if one cannot model for short term with any accuracy, how can one model for the long term?

Today is the Solstice

Which means that yesterday was the last day of spring.

And yet, my furnace kicked on last night.

(this was supposed to have posted on the 18th, but apparently I flubbed it badly)

Ted Kenned, driving drunk, crashed his car into a pond.

Stories vary as to what happened next, but in the end, there is evidence that Mary Jo Kopechne drowned after being left behind, trapped in the car.

In today's world, Teddy Kennedy would be tried for homicide, even if he had come from such a prominent family. Back then, well....

Mary Jo was not available for comment.

Happy birthday

To my Dad.

Monday, June 17, 2019

Yeah, one of those days.

I'm off to see about getting the '27 Chrysler put back together today.

New clutch, new distributor drive gears (and a reworked gearbox for same) and then putting the trans back in.

Yes, I have someone doing it. They have a lift and better tools.

hopefully pictures soon.

Don't break yer leg while hiking near Phoenix:

And if you do, then suck it up and hike out anyway....

'Cause the rescue might be worse than the injury:

Chaos reigns in the inner cities

Confusion and finger pointing and disappointment.

Happy Father's Day, everyone.

I was lucky. I grew up with a Father.
And I had a Dad.

And that is, indeed, a part of my "White Privilege".

Thanks, Dad.

How very....French

So all those promises of money from the French Rich that were pledged to rebuild the Cathedral at Notre Dame?

Yeah, it would seem that they have been forgotten, and it is, instead, mostly Americans who are footing the bill for repair.

Odd, I could have sworn that I'd heard this song before....Think WWII.

Funny how history repeats, innit? The French talk big, but in the end, they  just don't step up.

(and this is another way to show attribution for your source material)

'tis interesting:

The media refers to the President as "Trump".

They refer to Biden as "Joe Biden" or "Vice President Biden"

Odd difference. One is much less respectful than the other.

It's not like we don't know which the Media favors anyway.

Friday, June 14, 2019

Sent from my brother, who (I think) got it from IFunny.

(This, also is an example of how to attribute the source of your content)

Thursday, June 13, 2019

Which is it?

I mean, the meme from the DNC folks is that "Russians" or "Russia" chose to help Donald Trump get elected.

But......(from a comment in a post on Kenny's place)

Hillary won the popular Vote, so......

Did they help her?

(BTW, this an example of how you give attribution to a place where you found your subject material. It's common courtesy to do so)

SO there is a big broughaha about Census questions;

In particular, about a question as to whether the respondent is a US citizen.

I think it is because the DNC types don't want anyone to know how many non citizens are there,

They claim that they are afraid that the non citizens won't respond to the census at all, and therefore the assets and tax money and, most especially, congressional seats, would therefore not be allocated properly.....(point here: are congressional seats supposed to be allocated by number of citizens or by number of population? Same same tax money and/or other assets.....)

There are many other questions on the Census...and the Census folks claim that it is a law that one answer those questions....but I know of no one who has ever been charged or fined or in any way punished for not answering the census questions...

I have always put the number of people and their genders and nothing else on the form sent to my household....

But riddle me this???Why should Non-Citizens get any representation?? Why should people who are in the country illegally get any assets allocated to their areas?

Wednesday, June 12, 2019

You gotta be Fookin' Kiddin' me.....?

So I have a friend who works with a person.
That person is darker in skin tone than we are (not that that is hard, as we are as pale as Canadian college kids on Spring Break...but I digress)

It was pointed out to my friend that there are subtle "Microagressions" everywhere....

The symbols on the traffic lights.
How, you might ask, would a traffic light be racist? (I was ignorant about this as well....Read on)

It would seem that they are racist because the traffic lights in common use here in Northwest Indiana have a white figure to tell you to walk and an orangeish hand to tell you not to walk....This was changed, apparently, many years ago to make it easier for blind visually impaired (there I go again with Microagression) people to more easily see the difference and thus not get run over by cars, trucks and busses....But, again, I digress.

Seems that it is perceived by (some) black people that "Its a WHITE hand that tells you to go but it is BLACK (Brown? Orange?) hand that stops you"....which is, somehow, racist.

Or something.

What a wonderful country we live in that this is the largest complaint....

One can find discrimination and/or racism anywhere, apparently, if you look hard enough and have an ambiguous enough definition....

Finally drying out

Or at least not so muddy that work cannot be done because the tractor can't be driven over the grass without getting mired in the mud.

Spent yesterday servicing the big  Bush Hog mower. It had been on the far side of the soft part of the yard, and had been sitting since last fall.

Greased the u-joints on the driveshaft, oiled the blade pivots and the coupler, checked the level in the gearbox. Spent a half hour putting a proper edge profile on the swinging blades with a flap disc.

Mowing and wholesale mayhem on tall grass today....while I can.

if it doesn't rain tomorrow, more of the same.

'Cause he's just a bad ass

And he has a good marketing department:

Just plain well water. But from a well on the property owned by Chuck Norris.

So it has badness built in.

Or something.

BBBBBuuTTT the Tariffs won't work!

Yet, oddly, despite the DNC types claiming that the threat of tariffs wouldn't get any results, and that it was just gonna cost the US purchaser more....and that We (the US) needed Mexican made parts and produce more than Mexico needed the US....

Not only did Mexico choose to start closing their southern border to Central American migrants heading to the US (they already were closed to migrants intending to stay in Mexico....where the immigration laws are even harsher than those in the US) they also began investigating the sources of funds for those "Migrant Caravans"...

And, oddly enough, they found those funds came from "U.S., England, Cameroon, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala"...and those funds were funneled through some "26 individuals and entities"...all of who still have some assets in Mexico...and said assets are now frozen pending an investigation.

The margin of savings when one considers the poorer productivity, increased transportation costs and other issues with production in Mexico for goods produced in Mexico but used in the US mean that the 10% (and soon higher) tariffs would make the savings in labor be nearly nonexistent at the user or consumption end....therefore there would be no reason to continue production in Mexico for many companies......a truism which was, no doubt, communicated by many US companies who source goods and assemblies from our southern neighbor instead of produce them here in the US.

And Mexico desperately needs the money. So they capitulated.

So yeah, those threats from Trump of Tariffs on Mexican goods DID work..... and worked well, indeed. Odd, how when one plays for good, and a leader with balls is in place, and one who puts the good of the country first, how things get done

There may be nothing funnier or more touching (or irritating) than the glee with which a young cat attacks and shreds a roll of toilet paper.

Of course, cleaning up the mess and finding a replacement quickly when the needful is needing doing is frustrating.

Friday, June 7, 2019

I mean, Lord God Almighty....

3 days without measurable rain. Three Whole Days...The yards and fields are parched.

I don't know what we are gonna do....

Thursday, June 6, 2019

And they said he was insane:

To threaten tariffs on Mexican produced goods and services unless Mexico did something to stem the flow of invaders to our country through Mexico.....(Hell, if they'd just not FACILITATE their passage, it would be good...)

They said:
It wouldn't work...

The Mexican's didn't have the manpower to do anything about it.
It was impossible to stem the flow

and so on and so on....

Yet, oddly enough, it would seem that the Mexicans are at least making the attempt...or faking it, anyway.

Either way, they are arresting people and turning others away.

Funny, that....Threats of economic damage to THEIR country when their actions lead to economic damage to the US actually worked....
Whoda thought?

D-Day-----75 years ago.

There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said.

But I would like to say this:

Those men had guts, Plain old hard to find GUTS. I'm not sure I could have walked out of those landing craft and done the job they did.

And THANK you to those who DID do that job.

That's all.

Wednesday, June 5, 2019

I would wager, with pretty long odds, that those men that dropped on D-Day would find only disgust with the reporters commenting on their bravery 75 years later...that they would like to discuss the reporter's politics, the policies those reporters promote, and the fact that those self same reporters show only disgust towards the current crop of military men and women.

I'd bet that they think that the reporters are not the kind of people they risked their lives for, and that the "journalists" are trying and helping to destroy the country for which they fought.

'cause we spent the other tax money.....

So Illinois citizens get a new tax on additional 19 cents per gallon....which goes into effect July 1.

Seems that the state had to find some way to pay for all that "Deferred Maintenance" on all the roads...some of that maintenance delayed for decades....since the state has diverted all those millions and millions of dollars that were collected from roads to social programs and to simply pay for the bloated government payrolls.

And now bridges are falling down and roads are breaking up... so like good socialists...they are adding an additional tax.

How long before this tax money is diverted and they have to add (again) yet another tax to pay for the deferred road and bridge repair? They CLAIM it can't be diverted, but this is, after all, Illinois....

What good little Socialists the Government of Illinois are...

George flew us to lunch

So we flew, MC and I, along with my parents, to Champaign, Illinois for some badly needed Chinese food at her favorite restaurant.

Pulled the 182 out of the hangar

Time to get there: 44 minutes. (We had a nice tailwind going south)....Ground speed 154 knots for a while.

Got a Crew Car, had the FBO put in 25 gallons of 100LL and we were off to the Chinese place for some chow. Beef with Broccoli for me (over Fried Rice) and my Dad had Chicken and Mushrooms.  Mom had some LoMein and MC had (of course) Crispy Fried Tofu (her favorite).

lots and lots of food...yes, we took some home.

Some shopping on the way back for some odds and ends at the International Market for some odd and strange foods and snacks (Octopus Balls, anyone??? (sorry, no pics)),  and orange Kit Kats, Green Tea KitKats, strange flavors of Japanese Pop Rocks (and other stuff like that) not available elsewhere, and some more shopping at the Junque Store Consignment shop. Then we returned to the airport, preflighted the plane, loaded up, started the engine and we were off.

A quick conversation with Clearance, then switched frequencies to Ground, then a taxi, a runup then switched to Tower, (all the same dude) and we were given clearance to depart on Runway 32 with a right turn on course at 3000 or below.

Switched when told to to Departure (a different dude) then climbed to 3500 and tried there. (Pretty turbulent). Handed off to Chicago Approach and then we told 'em we were gonna climb to 5500 to find some smoother air. Not much smoother there (a bit less sharp), but less headwind.
At 3500, I could not let the Autopilot (George) fly, as it couldn't handle the turbulence...kept trimming up and down and trying to maintain a heading...I as afraid we'd burn out a trim motor....(Up/down/up down/up down/up/down.....) At 5500, "George" could handle the flying...less turbulence and steady(er) winds. So I let him fly for a while. What with the headwind, the ground speed wasn't as good, but we still made over 110 knots.

Since I wasn't flying, I had time to look down. Gotta feel sorry for the farmers. Many (2/5) of the fields still have either standing water or water just below the surface. I don't see how they are gonna get a crop in the ground anytime soon.

I'd think we'd have to have a week or more without rain before these fields could be planted

Soon enough, it was time to start the descent to my home airport. "Slow down to Go down" a bit of power reduction and a bit of trim and we descended from 5500 to 3500....made our "10 mile out" call on CTAF, then a slower descent to 2500 and a 5 mile out call. Did a base leg entry to the runway and fought the thermal on final. 16 gusting 24, so a bit fast. A gentle bounce on touchdown (just a bit too fast but there were gusty winds on final so there is that........and we were near gross for the density altitude also (That extra 350 lbs makes a HUGE difference in the sink rate)) and we turned off and called "Clear of the Active". ...I don't feel too bad as the dude with the TBM who landed right after me did the same bounce and had the same struggle on short final.

Taxiied back to the hangar, did the shutdown procedure, opened the hangar doors and put the plane away.

0.7 and one, and 1.1 and Aaron likes to say

A good day spent with MC and my parents.

Being able to go to lunch 100 miles away and back in a day is why I learned to fly.

'Tain't cheap, but worth every cent.

Remember, the whole trip from Africa is less than 24 hours

Seems that there are reports that Congolese have crossed our southern border....and possibly some have ebola.

Maybe true, and maybe not. you want to find out what could happen if Ebola is let loose in the US?

At the end of the day, it is a perfect example of why we need border security....and while the Southern border is the biggest issue and the weakest link, the other borders are weak as well and need to be secured.

Why we aren't getting the best anymore

Once, immigrants had to take an arduous (and likely expensive) journey to reach their new home....and it was difficult, if not impossible to return to the "homeland"....One left friends and family behind, possibly never seeing them again. This sort of journey required committed people, strong of heart and generally those willing to work hard and endure in order to find a better life. The weak/lazy, fearful and yes, less intelligent stayed, and the strong, brave and (generally) more intelligent were the ones willing to emigrate to a new land....This is why, in part, the Untied States became the best, most productive country in the world.....for a time. We got the strong, brave resourceful and intelligent souls from Europe and other countries and they helped make America what it was (our laws and COnstitution helped there as well)

Now, one can travel from continent to continent in a few hours, tens of hours will get you nearly around the world. There is no hardship in the travel, and nearly anyone with enough money to buy a ticket (and such travel is, comparatively, cheap) can move to another country relatively easily. SO now we get the lazy, the indigent and the weak, where once we got the brave, industrious and strong. The filter of difficulty and commitment has been removed....there is, effectively no barrier for people to move th where the lickings are better.

Add it governments trying to "help" people by making settlements in our larger cities (See also: Somalia in Minneapolis) the allowances made for illegals in Sanctuary cities and we, as a nation, are weakened rather than strengthened by immigration...Yes, we still get some of the best and the brightest, but they are becoming a minority more and more every day. We also get much of the detritus of other countries....

So the answer of why we no longer get the best, brightest and most motivated people....people with a strong work ethic and with a drive to succeed....Immigrants that enhance and uplift our country....

It is simply to easy to get here, and once here, too easy to live (and stay) here.

We need to work on that.

Thought for the day:

If at first you don't succeed:

Then skydiving may not be a good choice of hobby.

IQ falling across the world:

So it would seem that people are noticing the fact that where there is immigration from Third World Countries there is a drop in the average national IQ.

DUH. I mean who'da thought?

The Third World is the Third World for a reason. Not because the rest of the world is keeping them down.

And in the end, Third World Immigraton will lower not only the IQ of those countries, but their ability to feed, clothe and defend themselves.  Eventually to support themselves at all. It will destroy the country economically.

One might think that this is a plan....

Enjoy your Holiday

But, while cooking out and being in the company of friends or family...

Take a moment and remember those who DIED to give you the freedom and security to be able to enjoy this day off.....

This day is in remembrance for those folks, not just a 3 day weekend.

Take a moment. Raise a glass. Say a prayer.

Remember.  Say "thank you"....They'll hear it.
Trust me.

Racing weekend:

This is the one Sunday of the year where I watch Formula One racing at Monaco in the morning, Then the Indy 1500, then later in the day, the Coca-Cola 600. I do nothing productive all day. And I don't care.

But the commercials are starting to frighten me.

Especially the Chevy commercials. I am sure that they are effective, and that is what scares me. If those commercials are effective in the 20-30 year old demographic, then I am really afraid. We are screwed as a nation and for the foreseeable future. Totally fucked as far as future leadership or a decent, thinking, intelligent population.

No wonder folks like Ocasio-Cortez get elected.

'Twas nice to see

The Formula One racing community take a moment and remember Niki Lauda before the race at Monaco..

He may have been one of the greatest drivers of all time, and was a great ambassador for Formula One.

It was nice to see the teams give tribute.

Went to the drag races last night

One wonders how those men can run that fast in those high heels.
