That is a LONG time to be giving CPR. I'm in decent shape and I start sweating about the 3 minute mark. Tired after 5.
I bet that last 5 must have been hell.
But he saved the dude's life.
Chicago police officer saves life of man who collapsed on basketball court.
I'm not sure I could give CPR for 10 minutes.
Could you?

I'd try... All I can say.
ReplyDeleteOg: I actually sing to myself "Another one Bites the Dust" as that is what my original instructor used (same rhythm), and it has imprinted me for life...
ReplyDeleteSubsequent classmates in other CPR classes tend to look at me ....askance.
When my wife's brother collapsed with a heart attack at a construction site a few years ago, a coworker gave CPR for more than 20 minutes until the ambulance arrived. Twenty minutes! Saved his life.
ReplyDeleteMy BIL didn't even know the guy, he worked on a different crew. He never got the chance to thank him, the job was done when he recovered.
LOL! I LOVE another one bites the dust, but maybe it's premature?? though, you never know, it might make the person struggle harder to stay alive.
ReplyDeleteNever timed how long I was doing it for. Once we got to squad an EMT took over (I was firefighter/driver). Usually, unless someone had been doing it before we got there, it was a lost cause and we did it for comfort of the family. CPR needs to be done immediately upon collapse or it's rarely useful. That never stops you from doing your best though.
