Question for the lawyers out there:

Why is robbing a bank a Federal offense, but robbing a liquor store not?

I mean, the Bank is a private entity, same as the liquor store.

Not like robbing, say, a Post Office.

can anyone explain?

  1. Banks are regulated by the Federal Reserve (and several other agencies) while retail stores are regulated by the state.

  2. Which is kind of a pity, since what's in my liquor cabinet is retaining value much better that what's in my wallet.
