Have you ever delved into the domain name market? Initial registration is cheap, as are yearly fees. Speculators are constantly trying to predict what domains will become valuable in the future. In 2013 this would have been an out-there-but-not-insane bet.
But if you want to see a different pattern, you'll manage to find signs of it somewhere ;)
