A legal question:

So the State governments have (mostly) mandated a mask in all enclosed public spaces. Essentially, one cannot legally do business without a mask in todays society.

On the horizon: a (relatively) untried set of vaccines for Covid-19...

Now, one is required to possess a drivers license to drive a car on roads,  In many states, one needs a permit to carry a firearm on one's person (despite the protections of the Second Amendment of the Constitution). One cannot do banking nor other fiancial businesswithout proving ones identity with a Government issued Identification Card. Similarly, one must "identify" when asked by a policeman or other law enforcement official (The difinition of "Identify" might mean showing an Id or simply stating your name and DOB..it varies).  There is precedent for the following:

Would it be legal for the States or the Federal Government to require that the citizens of this country be vaccinated for Covid-19 in order to do business or to leave one's home? To buy food or medicine or to mingle with others in public?

It is, after all, a short step from mandated "Mask Up" in public to "Vaccinate".....

I fully expect someone to try this...

  1. I think it's going to come from private entities. I believe that Qantas is already mandating proof of vaccination to fly, once it is available (https://www.forbes.com/sites/ericrosen/2020/11/23/qantas-will-require-travelers-to-get-covid-19-vaccinations-before-flying/?sh=17f4d7065f01).

China and other countries are already implementing negative test proof before passengers can fly to the country and some states in the US are trying to.

Just like the mask mandates truly started here with companies like Menards, WalMart, etc. but now the US House is teeing up something where states won't get federal money if they don't have a mask mandate in place.

  2. Surely, you know this is coming. To some extent it's already here. A child can't start school without certain vaccinations.

People are already lining up with sleeves rolled up for this thing. Of course, they're also the ones who camp out in line for the latest I-Phone... and then complain like hell about all the bugs associated with that phone...

    I'll wait, thanky'ver'much...

  3. Yes, mandatory vaccines are coming, count on it.
At some point I am going to have take the vaccine, I'll then be able to do all the shopping and business for my family and they won't have to be vaccinated.

I do not want it. I will put it off as long as possible. But I'll take so my family won't have to.
