Rain again today

Was discussing with a resident of Texas rain (it is interrupting his work up here) and I pointed out that Texas had it worse.  At least it stops for a day here and there.

He said Yes, that was true, and (up to a point) they needed the rain.

But he also pointed out that no matter how flooded the state gets, it never seems to drown the damned fire ants.

Why is that?

  1. Because they float, and they build rafts of the dead ones for the queens to stay on until the water goes back down. I've seen it in my own front yard.
