Long, but worth the read

Go here.

Kinda make ya think, doesn't it?

Seeing as how there are all those states that are going against the federal government and it's use of the commerce clause to regulate thing that happen INSIDE a state, and the anti illegal immigrant bills such as the recently passed law in Arizona, one wonders how much relevance the above article might have.

What do we do, if and when?

Seriously.

If one were just the tiniest bit untrusting.....

of the government, and the Obama Administration in particular, one might wonder about the timing of the well fire and explosion and resulting oil spill off the Louisiana coast.

Just as the administration had announced that it was going to allow more offshore drilling, much to the wailing and weeping of the EnviroZombies, this accident happens.....

Fortuitous timing to get him out of the jam he was in between those citizens who need and want less expensive energy and those who are rabidly psychotic environmentalists (who, I might note, still travel in dinosaur burning, toxin spewing, Gaia destroying, automobiles, ships, and airplanes).

Now he has an excuse to put a halt to all new drilling (and even curtail current drilling) all in the name of environmental safety and security. He gets off the hook with the EnviroZombies and has an excuse to give to the rest of us proles.

Hey....If Bush the PuppetChimpMeister could kill 3k+/-  people for an excuse to go to war with Iraq (or so the theory goes) then why is this out of the question???

And it does tie his problem up in a nice neat bow, doesn't it???

I'm just sayin'

Question:

When did Congress get the power to demand the presence of a private citizen and the right to grill and question them for as long as they want? AFAIK, there isn't anything allowing that in my copy of the Constitution. They are LEGISLATORS, that is all.

It's not like they are rulers or anything. Nor is it like they have judicial power....

Today reminded me of the stories I heard about the McCarthy era.

No stereotypes here.....

Texas man sought in wife's chainsaw death

I mean, seriously?

"we speak english"

Damned straight.

I'd vote for him, on this issue alone.

After all, road signs are in english.....

If you live here, and are taking this country for your home, then learn the dominant language. ENGLISH.

I am descended from immigrants. Many of my maternal relatives are hispanic. I am proud of what they have made for themselves in this country. They all speak english, even if only as a second language.

I worked for an italian gentleman when I was in high school. While it was obvious to anyone with one working ear that he and his wife had not been born and raised in the midwest, THEY SPOKE PASSABLE ENGLISH (at least until they got excited).

The point is, if you are taking this country as your home, you need to adapt to the country, not expect the country to adapt to you.

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

These words, on a plaque at the Statue of Liberty, which greeted those immigrants arriving at Ellis Island for processing, are part and parcel of what makes this country great. But nowhere does it say that you get an easy ride, nor freebies, nor that the country should learn to speak your language.  Many thousands of peoples from all over this world have arrived in the US, eager to make their lives in "America!". Few failed to learn at least a part of the language and culture. (at least those who were successful). They became part of the country, in part, because they had to learn the common language. And to the country's benefit, they amalgamated in a generation or two, to not be asian-american, or irish-american, or italian-american or whatever-american, but just plain american.

By allowing those folks who have arrived to not learn english, we fail them in their integration and amalgamation into citizens of this country.

lies

SO they lied about the cost of the Health care bill. (yeh, I know, no shit?)

But here is proof that they knew they were lying.

Bastard socialists.

National guard? Sure

Seems the folks in charge in Chicago want more boots on the street to patrol the crime ridden areas. Hey! Lets use the National Guard! That way the Peoples Republik State of Illinois will have to pay for things.

Despite the fact that they fund fewer and fewer Chicago policemen every year, and instead spend more and more money on "social programs" and  handouts to minorities "entitlements" (I'd like to jam a stick in the eye of whoever made the word "entitlements" commonly used in that context, but I digress), the areas in question have fallen lower and lower on the civilized scale each year. Nor have the number of working folks increased, nor has the quantity of folks living at the poverty level decreased.

All those programs and handouts haven't materially resulted in a betterment for any of the people living in those areas, and have, if anything, resulted in even less civilized behavior from those residents.

Check out the rates of single parent households. Welfare is, if not THE problem, at least a significant one.

What no one in the media seems to bother to mention is the fact that all the money spent in liberal programs and social engineering is not returning any results. None, zero, nada. The problem is the people.

The issue in the south side of Chicago isn't anything more than a cultural one. Exacerbated by the so called leaders that the community elects over and over again to help themselves the citizens of the community with(generally) other peoples money. The areas have been bad since the '70s and in some cases, despite the massive amounts of money spent, are getting materially worse.

If the city needs policing, let the city hire and train policemen, rather than use National Guardsmen who, while no doubt good folks, aren't trained to be police. And let the city fund those same policemen, rather than hand out money in the vain attempt to buy civilized behavior and order, rather than expect someone else to pay for it.

Read SecondCityCop to find a policeman's perspective.

Al $harpton says that the American people voted for socialism when they voted for Obama.

Perhaps many of us knew that, and didn't vote for him (I was one of those) but many folks thought they were voting for "HopeEnChange" , but not for socialism.

Perhaps the Rev. $harpton knew something the Obama voters didn't.

May 20th.

Draw Mohammed day.

While I mean no significant disrespect to muslims, neither do I think we should cower in fear because some radical islamist feels that he has the right to kill an infidel due to a perceived slight of Mohammed.

Therefore, I bring this to your attention. I will post the most funny, well done, satirical cartoon I can find here (make no mistake, if I could draw one, I would, but I have difficulty having my stick figures recognized as such, so I will reproduce someone else's artwork.

I invite the offended muslim to wage his jihadic war upon me. He might find me a more worthwhile adversary that the unarmed TheoVanGogh. (I shoot back).

Please, pass this forward to others. Let us all celebrate this day, if only to defuse and pull the fangs of the offended muslim which threatens violence so effectively.
Via SCC we get the story of the convicted murderer who ran out of appeals and is sentenced to death.
By firing squad.
By his choice.

And the liberal weenies are shitting in their panties because they are gonna shoot this guy rather than painlessly put him to sleep. Like a dog....in a humane manner.

As SCC says, and I agree...What about the damage he did to his victims?

This should be a punishment, and an incentive for others to NOT DO THE SAME. A disincentive to do similar crimes. The punishment should hurt, and should be scary.

Personally, I like the idea of public hangings. Within a year of the first conviction.  Fast track the appeal, and either find the accused not guilty go or hang him. Publicly. That will be a deterrent to others who might commit similar crimes.

YMMV

wonder if the local store can order

Sleight of hand

So if I give you a lot of money, and you give me as collateral part of your company.....Then I pay part of the money back  and the rest of the money is tied up in my stock whose value is determined by me......

Have you repaid my loan in full?

GM , the Obama administration, and, apparently the inept reporters think so.

$52 billion (yeah, BILLION) in loans. (from the US Government) plus 9+ billion from the Canadians.

They repaid 8.1 billion cash. You do the math.

Seems to me that they have a small issue to resolve before they can claim that the loans are repaid.

But then again, I am not a "nuanced" sort of guy like the reporters claim to be....

My training is as an engineer, where the math says what it says, and there are no phantom things like in finance.

So perhaps I am missing something. It would seem to me that there is somewhere on the order of $42 billion yet to be repaid (plus interest) yet to go before the debt is settled.

ETA: additional thoughts here. Take the time to read the comments.

Just an idea: Subliminal messages for freedom.

An interesting idea for a stealth campaign:

Inspired by THIS, The idea is to have a stamp made and stamp all of your currency. Then spend such currency normally.

Suggested messages:

Support your local TEA party.

Less governmnt.

Smaller government, lower taxes.

reclaim personal accountability.

Vote 'em all out.

etc.

Suggestions?

I am seriously thinking this would be an excellent stealth marketing campaign. People might not even notice it, but would, nonetheless, subliminally  still see the message.

Well, duh....

Seems that  no one really knows what the actual cost of the Screw With the Best Healthcare in the World Affordable HealthCare Act will be.

All the numbers presented were, well, realistic made up.

So everything that they lied to told us about Obamacare was just so much steaming excrement. And now that it is signed into law, the rest of us are supposed to swallow it.

Again: it is a good thing that dueling has gone out of style in this country, or the seconds of our senators and congresspersons would be very busy lately.

And dawn might be a less peaceful time of day.

The US in 20 or so years

Might well look like THIS.

Of course, that's only if we fail to bring government and debt under control, reign in the unions, and embark on protectionist trade policies.

In other words, if we re-elect Mr Obama and his minions in the senate and house, and allow them to continue their policies.

Hope&Change and all that folderol.

'cause they want to help people breaking the law

and damaging the country. And taking services for which they pay nothing, to the detriment of the States and the citizens of the US...

Yep, I am talking about illegal Immigrants (undocumented lawbreakers).

Seems Arizona wants to do something about it and some hispanic lawmakers are more loyal to other of their race than to the laws of the country or to the oath that they swore when they were elected.

If they care more about those lawbreakers than  the law, perhaps they are not qualified to be in the position they currently occupy.

If they get their say, then it should lead to an interesting 10th amendment court case.

April 19th

Let us not forget government agencies run amok, all for the political gain, or so one or more persons could get publicity and/or promotions.

Today, 17 years ago, was the end of the siege near Waco, Texas at the Branch Davidian ranch. While the stories vary, they all point to one thing. This was the culmination of a significant series of blunders that the FBI and ATF made that resulted in the deaths of 76 people.

While no one knows exactly what happened in the beginning, nor what the motivation of the raid that started this debacle, it ended on this day in the fiery deaths that could have been avoided.

What is the lesson here?

Watch our government closely. Do something to stop it before it oversteps its bounds. Do what we must to contain the demon of overzealous law enforcement before things get out of hand.

And remember this day. Do not let it happen again.

"For if we do not stand together, then we shall hang separately".

Today

Is Patriots' day.

To go along with the preceding post, let us not forget this day, or those who made it special.

Be glad you were born in (or have the privilege to live in) this country. Thank those who made our country happen.

If you feel differently, then perhaps you should find a country whose social and legal base is more to your liking....and move there.

Listen my children

And you shall hear.....

Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere.

One of many freedom fighters and patriots. Immortalized in poetry and legend by Longfellow, the fact remains that this simple silversmith risked much to free his country. While the "Midnight Ride" was not his alone, that ride and his other exploits suffice to make him a legend in his own right. A hero of the American Revolution. Someone who cared enough to risk it all to make his not yet formed country free.

Without him, and others of his mold and character, would we have our country today? Or would we still be a colony of the queen? (or would we have followed England into decline and socialism by now?)

What might those patriots, those men who fought the war that we read about in history books as the Revolutionary War think today? Would they spit upon us for nearly losing (and we may yet lose!) that country for which they sacrificed and died?  That struggle in which many lost their livelihoods? What would they think of us today?

They gave to us, through their efforts and sacrifice, a legacy and a country that is the beacon of freedom and democracy to the world! Are we willing to let such a sacrifice go in vain? Will we let their legacy fade into history, to be replaced by a socialist state?

WILL WE SQUANDER THEIR SACRIFICE AND THEIR EFFORTS? Will we fail to retain that ideal for which those patriots fought 235 years ago? Or will we find some vestige of the gumption, the fortitude, the strength and perseverance, which lived in those men and women, and fight to retain that which they left us for a birthright?

I say to you fellow Americans, if we lose this struggle we should be hounded out of the afterlife by those patriots who sacrificed, fought, and in some cases, died to make this country.

I intend to face them, if and when, with my head high, my chin up, and my gaze level, after trying my best.

Will you? WILL YOU? Or will you fail to follow their example and accept what your betters shall deign to give you?

Will you allow their legacy to die? WILL YOU ALLOW THEIR SACRIFICES TO FALL ON THE RUBBISH HEAP OF HISTORY?

Or will you stand in their stead, and defend that which they wrought, beginning on this day 235 years ago?

Remember those who fought on this day. Remember that this day was the opening salvo of the fight for this country, beginning on the road from Boston to Concord. Never forget those who fought the first battle to make this country what it is today.

Many over the years have sacrificed their lives on the altar of freedom. Sacrificed their lives and their fortunes to defend an idea that is now the US. Today, let us remember those who were first.

The Revolutionary War began tonight. The hours of darkness between the 18th and the 19th of April, 1775. One might well say that this was the beginning of our country.

Remember this day.

Decide if you will allow it to be squandered.

CHOOSE....ACT.

Range day

Spent the afternoon turning money into smoke, noise, and dead bowling pins.

I missed connections with Og, was gonna shoot with him. We were gonna shoot .22 rifles, but since he and I missed connections, I and Midwest Chick shot at non threatening, yet somehow menacing bowling pins with pistols...... I practiced my reload drills. Next time I am gonna have someone load the first mag with random numbers of cartridges to make my reloads happen more often, or even have them load a snap cap in order to get my malf drills up to speed.

Range was windy and cool, but nice. No one else there.

It always amazes me how much abuse a bowling pin will withstand.

Home now to clean the pistols.

Sorry Og.... next time...You have my cell # now, so you can call.

Can anyone explain how  an email can get held up for 3+ hours between AOL and Yahoo?

Lucky for me, I am not they. And no one (so far) has issued a fatwah against me (at least, as far as I know).

So much for the religion of peace.

Coming soon to a country near you....

Bet on it.

While we are noit quite yet at the stage that Argentina is, (yet) we are following a similar path.

soon, THIS will happen here too. Not today, and not tomorrow. But not too far in the future either.

Look at the parallels in the history. Bet it happens elsewhere Europe too. All in the name of public welfare, public good, or collective fairness.

Think it is impossible? So did those who thought their gold coins were safe in their safe deposit boxes in 1933. Not to mention the subsequent devaluation of the dollar. How many people got shafted by FDR when his executive order 6102 went into effect? How many people saw their saving cut nearly in half overnight, all in the name of the welfare of the US?

Will it happen here? Who knows? But I'd rather have my money in an IRA rather than a pension fund anyway, for several reasons. Or even NOT in an IRA....

Something to think about...

I have said similar things before, but TAM SAYS IT BETTER.

The folks attending the Tea Parties are the 50% that actually work, not the 50% that don't.

It's easy to get a bunch of un employed folks who live off the largesse of the gubmint to protest for more freebies...But things have gotten to the point where folks who would normally be at work are taking the time to voice their opinion.

Again, I say "the sleeping dragon has been awakened".

2010 and 2012 should be interesting.

Tea Party... -1

The NWIndianaPatriots held their Tea Party Rally today, Wednesday the 14th.

600 or so attendees, only 2 folks who tried to stir things up, only halfheartedly.

The crowd was calm.

Lots of support from folks driving by.

Thanks to Faith Jones, the organizer.

Will add a post with pics later, if any turn out to be decent.

I, unfortunately, have to actually work on 4/15. I would call in sick, but I run my own business. Besides, many folks who won't work need my tax contribution to keep on getting welfare, free cell phones, and such.

So I will miss the big Tea Party in Chicago.

Bummer.

So I did.

Besides, I like 1911's. You can never have too many.

Just so you know

Who Kilroy was....

WHO THE HECK WAS KILROY?
In 1946 the American Transit Association, through its radio program, "Speak to America ," sponsored a nationwide contest to find the REAL Kilroy, offering a prize of a real trolley car to the person who could prove himself to be the genuine article.

Almost 40 men stepped forward to make that claim, but only James Kilroy from Halifax , Massachusetts , had evidence of his identity.

Kilroy was a 46-year old shipyard worker during the war who worked as a checker at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy .

His job was to go around and check on the number of rivets completed.
Riveters were on piecework and got paid by the rivet.
Kilroy would count a block of rivets and put a check mark in semi-waxed lumber chalk, so the rivets wouldn't be counted twice.
When Kilroy went off duty, the riveters would erase the mark.
Later on, an off-shift inspector would come through and count the rivets a second time, resulting in double pay for the riveters.
One day Kilroy's boss called him into his office.
The foreman was upset about all the wages being paid to riveters, and asked him to investigate.
It was then he realized what had been going on.
The tight spaces he had to crawl in to check the rivets didn't lend themselves to lugging around a paint can and brush, so Kilroy decided to stick with the waxy chalk.
He continued to put his checkmark on each job he inspected, but added KILROY WAS HERE in king-sized letters next to the check, and eventually added the sketch of the chap with the long nose peering over the fence and that became part of the Kilroy message.
Once he did that, the riveters stopped trying to wipe away his marks.

Ordinarily the rivets and chalk marks would have been covered up with paint.

With war on, however, ships were leaving the Quincy Yard so fast that there wasn't time to paint them.
As a result, Kilroy's inspection "trademark" was seen by thousands of servicemen who boarded the troopships the yard produced.
His message apparently rang a bell with the servicemen, because they picked it up and spread it all over Europe and the South Pacific.
Before war's end, "Kilroy" had been here, there, and everywhere on the long hauls to Berlin and Tokyo .
To the troops outbound in those ships, however, he was a complete mystery; all they knew for sure was that some jerk named Kilroy had "been there first."
As a joke, U.S. servicemen began placing the graffiti wherever they landed, claiming it was already there when they arrived.
Kilroy became the U.S. super-GI who had always "already been" wherever GIs went.
It became a challenge to place the logo in the most unlikely places imaginable (it is said to be atop Mt. Everest , the Statue of Liberty, the underside of l'Arc De Triomphe, and even scrawled in the dust on the moon.)
As the war went on, the legend grew.
Underwater demolition teams routinely sneaked ashore on Japanese-held islands in the Pacific to map the terrain for coming invasions by U.S. troops (and thus, presumably, were the first GI's there).
On one occasion, however, they reported seeing enemy troops painting over the Kilroy logo! In 1945, an outhouse was built for the exclusive use of Roosevelt, Stalin, and Churchill at the Potsdam conference.
Its' first occupant was Stalin, who emerged and asked his aide (in Russian), "Who is Kilroy?"

To help prove his authenticity in 1946, James Kilroy brought along officials from the shipyard and some of the riveters.

He won the trolley car, which he gave to his nine children as a Christmas gift and set it up as a playhouse in the Kilroy front yard in Halifax , Massachusetts .

We need more of this....Bawney Fwank gets the opinions of citizens.

I am surprised (and impressed) that he flies commercial, but other than that I am glad that he got the word from the street.

'bout time....too late, but still.

This sort of behavior should become a part of life for each and every senator and congressperson who voted for the health care ripoff reform bill everywhere they go. They should be hounded no matter where they go.

It was not "Teh Awesome".......

So, falling prey to the hype about the KFC Double Down sandwich, I went to the local KFC.

While the sandwich was good, it was not great.

Nor did I have a heart attack after eating it, despite the warnings. It's two pieces of white meat Original Recipe covering some fairly spicy pepper jack cheese and some less than spectacular bacon with some sort of mayo based "Secret Sauce".  Tasty, but not "all that".  It won't replace the sandwich.

And, of course, there is the wonderful experience at the KFC itself. The service (if it can be called that) at the local KFC remains, much like my visit last year, abysmally poor. There were a pair of twins (young men) who had some hustle and some concept of customer service, but the visit overall was not a "quality dining experience". The other 6 people behind the counter were not, shall we say, customer service oriented

What is it about KFC that mostly attracts workers with 2 speeds...slow, and dead?

All I can say is that the sandwich, while good, was not awesome, and a good sandwich will not cause me to return to KFC for such a poor experience.

I'd rather make this at home...

How long until this happens in the US???

Destitute and desperate, Icelanders opt for exile

Notice the similarities:

Quote:

"Iceland's first ever left-wing government came to power last year after the previous right-wing administration collapsed following a wave of protests blaming it for the state of the economy".

and:

"I don't want my daughter to have to pay for this," she said. "I just have such a bad feeling about what's happening here."

With the growing debt load the Obama Administration (and, to be fair, our congress) has placed on this countries citizens, How long until we see the same trend here?

It is already happening in  Michigan and elsewhere.

Half the folks pay no taxes.

The rest of us pay the whole bill...Roads, military, education, government programs, all the departments of whatever...

47% of the households in this country pay ZERO taxes. Zero. Nada, NONE.

Many of those get "entitlements".

Meaning that they are net consumers, not producers.

We have a system in which "the top 10 percent of earners -- households making an average of $366,400 in 2006 -- paid about 73 percent of the income taxes collected by the federal government."

The other 43% of us pay the other 27% of the bill for the country.

We need a system wherein every person is charged a minimum dollar amount to pay for things, then perhaps a tax based on wages.

This sort of inequality is unacceptable.

Let us talk about "fair share".

And not in the way that the liberals refer to it.

YMMV

"First proposed in 1966 and named after Columbia University sociologists Richard Andrew Cloward and his wife Frances Fox Piven (today Piven is an honorary chair for the Democratic Socialists of America), the "Cloward-Piven Strategy" seeks to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse."

Seems that random shootings took place in/near Times Square in NYC today.

Since getting a permit to carry is nearly impossible, and since al forearms must have ballistic information and a fired case on file, I am sure that the guns (which Must be legal, right????) will be traced quickly.

Or then again, since the gun laws are not followed by criminals, maybe not.

It is cases like these in NYC and other highly 2nd amendment restricted cities, that show the fallacy nof the Brady Foundation and other anti gun groups.

Y'know the moment between the time the drill breaks and the nanosecond before the remainder of the drill digs the still rotating (but now jagged)  flutes into the flesh of your left thumb? You just know it's gonna be bad.

Or so I've heard.....

Happy Easter:

Yeah, so I am sick.....Whatchagonna do about it???

Thought for the day

He who hesitates is toast.

"arm yourself"

A lesson on why you should own a firearm and be reasonably proficient in its use and deployment. Why you should pracice often enough to maintain that proficiency.

This article explains why. The violence in Mexico is spilling over the border. Law enforcement can't be everywhere, and they are advising folks to "arm yourself".But to arm yourself without the skills to use those arms is foolish, and dangerous, and could lead to the person bearing arms being more confident than he/she should be.

Look, it ain't that hard to maintain your proficiency, should it be a rifle or a pistol. A few hundred rounds a year. Why not? You might need it. Hopefully not, but you might.

Bet those folks who live on the border are wishing that they had practiced more recently. Or even that thy owned a gun...

So sometime this month, take your weapon to the range and practice. Do drills. Maintain your proficiency.

The way things are going, you might need it soon.

Of course, all that proficiency means nothing without situational awareness, but that is another discussion.

unintended consequences, part XIV

More fallout from the HUGE Health Care Bill.

"I'll take the double fatburger with extra heart disease and a large helping of extra lardass. And can I get some extra clogged arteries with that? But hold the mayo"

Like anyone eating fast food really cares about calories, or percentage of RDA or amount of fat or salt.

Go HERE to watch the video.

Look: I am all for helping people have a healthy lifestyle and all that. But really, do you think anyone is gonna read the calorie counts? Few read the currently mandated nutrition labels on foods you can get at the grocery store. Why would they read them standing in line at the fast food counter?

Most fat people are fat for a reason, and (excepting that minority with a gladular disorder or the like) most are fat because they don't care about the calories they eat vs the calories they burn.  Giving them all the information on nutrition in flashing numbers will not help. Having the info printed on a card and handed to them by an attractive model will not help.

But the government doesn't care if it is effective. they are spending someone else's money, and, for them it's the intent that counts, not the result.

Striking parallels.

Or if you prefer:

"A road to disaster well traveled"

"What the United States government will do in the future may be in question, but we need not look far to find past examples of countries unwilling to get their finances in order. Consider Argentina. In 1914, it was one of the wealthiest countries in the world, and its living standard exceeded that of Western Europe until the late 1950s. Then President Juan Peron squandered his nation's prosperity by introducing a host of redistributionist economic and regulatory policies, nationalizing utilities and foreign investments, and pumping up the national debt. What followed was three decades of political instability, growing dependency, and economic stagnation."

But at the same time, sad.

Should there be an intelligence test to be a representative of the people?

Dude, Generally, islands are fairly well fixed to the sea floor.

Islands seldom tip over and capsize.

The amazing thing is that the folks he was questioning didn't laugh out loud.

IIRC, this is the guy that replaced Cynthia McKinney, which tells us something about that region of the country.

These folks make decisions that affect every citizen in this country. There should be a test, or something.

And Yes, I know that this is April 1st, and no, this is (sadly) not an April Fools joke.
